Justise Mayberry is quickly becoming a celebrity.
The 11-year-old girl from Sugar Hill recently won a challenge in a competition of 40 young cooks on the FOX television show “MasterChef Junior.” During the show, the young cooks received a challenge from Michelle Obama.
As part of a recent episode on the show, which was taped a while back, Justise attended a Kids State Dinner at the White House in July, and a clip of her interviewing the former First Lady was recently published on the People magazine web site after it didn’t make the cut on the FOX show.
“I don’t think I ever imagined that me, 11-year-old Justise from Georgia, would get to go in the White House and have dinner with Michelle Obama,” Justice said on the show.
She later asked Obama how she came up with the idea for a Kids State Dinner and if she could offer advice for kids.
“There is nothing more important that you can do for yourself than to get an education,” Obama said on the clip. “Doing your best not just in the kitchen, but you’ve got to be your best in the classroom. I want you all to keep pushing and preparing yourself for college and doing well.”
On the cooking show, British chef Gordon Ramsey, the star of the network’s show “Hell’s Kitchen,” hosts the show and offers the contestants tips along the way with pastry chef Christina Tosi.
