One of Atlanta’s top holiday events returns for seventh consecutive year with a special photo opportunity during select performances
Wednesday, October 19, 2016 — It wouldn’t be Christmas without a few reindeer games! If you recall, Rudolph is the most famous reindeer of all, and he’s ready to help audiences embrace their inner misfit at the Center for Puppetry Arts this holiday season. Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer™, playing in the Mainstage Theater from November 8 – December 31, was adapted by Jon Ludwig and is directed by Tim Sweeney. Based on the timeless 1964 stop-motion animated television special, this must-see family favorite is filled with holly jolly adventure and excitement bound to bring joy to all this holiday season!
Patrons will watch in wonder as the North Pole truly comes to life through the use of rod and body puppets meticulously designed by the Center’s Resident Puppet Builder Jason Hines and constructed by a team of puppet builders. Puppeteers Dolph Amick, Nikolas Carleo, Anna Caudle, Jake Krakovsky, Sarah Beth Moseley and Anna Claire Walker create the magic of the classic tale on stage. Sam the Snowman™ narrates the beloved tale of unlikely friendship formed among Rudolph™, Hermey the Elf™, Yukon Cornelius™ and all the magical misfit toys. While narrowly escaping the grips of the Bumble the Abominable Snow Monster™ and braving perilous blizzards, their journey is sure to warm hearts as the friends learn the importance of being true to one’s self and accepting others along the way. Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer™ is recommended for ages 4 and up.
“Listening to this year's cast practicing the songs from Rudolph gets me in the mood for another holly jolly holiday season,” said artistic director, Jon Ludwig. “This cast is really skilled at singing, along with great manipulation and character voices. They are able to blend beautifully together. It makes me want to join in, and hopefully it will get families singing along with this annual classic.”
A celebration of individuality and acceptance, Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer™ has become an Atlanta holiday tradition for all ages to enjoy!
During the first two weekends of Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer™, lucky patrons will have the special opportunity to have their picture taken with a puppet from the show at a post-show meet and great. Tickets to all shows also include entrance to the Create-A-Puppet Workshop™, where guests can make and decorate their own Bumble the Abominable Snow Monster™ Hand Puppet.
Audiences will also be in for a treat as the Center’s Worlds of Puppetry Museum will celebrate its first anniversary during the opening weekend of Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer™. Beginning Friday, November 11, patrons can view the Center’s newest acquisition, Topthorn from the Tony Award-winning Broadway production of War Horse. The weekend will include a viewing of the documentary Making War Horse with an introduction by Cheryl Henson, daughter of Jim Henson and Center for Puppetry Arts board member, as well as a discussion with performer, designer and puppet artist Tom Lee, who performed in War Horse at Lincoln Center. Lee will also present a master class in the Bunraku-inspired puppetry techniques used in that show. For more information, visit www.puppet.org.

The Fresh Market announces winners of fourth annual “Design Our Bag Challenge”
Young shoppers create 2016 limited-edition reusable shopping bag benefiting No Kid Hungry®
The Fresh Market’s youngest shoppers fight childhood hunger with delicious designs for the 2016 Design Our Bag Challenge! Earlier this year, thousands of creative children channeled their inner artist by answering the question, “What is the best thing about The Fresh Market?” through artwork submissions for the company’s limited-edition reusable shopping bags. The annual competition, which inspires kids of all ages to cook up culinary-themed art masterpieces, benefits No Kid Hungry® -- the campaign from the nonprofit Share Our Strength dedicated to ending childhood hunger in America by connecting children to healthy food where they live, learn and play.
After thorough review and multiple rounds of voting, The Fresh Market is delighted to announce this year’s two design winners: Lauren G. from Atlanta, Ga. and Colin S. from University Park, Fla. The winners of the Design Our Bag Challenge received a $200 gift card to The Fresh Market, a kid-friendly goodie basket filled with an artist kit, edible treats, and bragging rights!
Each winning design will be printed on one side of a reusable shopping bag that will be sold at The Fresh Market stores nationwide beginning on October 6. Both Lauren and Colin will also appear at their local The Fresh Market store, 4405 Roswell Road, Atlanta, Ga. and 5251 University Parkway, University Park, Fla., respectively, for a special bag signing event on October 8 from 11 a.m. – 1 p.m.With the support of its customers, The Fresh Market will contribute 50 percent of the retail price of each limited-edition bag sold to No Kid Hungry, with a minimum contribution of $150,000 this year, funded through Design Our Bag sales, as well as the grocer’s Cupcakes for a Cause campaign.
In total, The Fresh Market has raised over $1 million in support of No Kid Hungry’s effort to connect children in need with nutritious food, while teaching their families how to cook healthy, affordable meals. Since the launch of the partnership, The Fresh Market has helped No Kid Hungry supply 10 million more healthy meals to kids facing childhood hunger, an issue affecting one in five children.
No child should go hungry in America, but 1 in 5 kids will face hunger this year. Using proven, practical solutions, No Kid Hungry is ending childhood hunger today by ensuring that kids start the day with a nutritious breakfast and families learn the skills they need to shop and cook on a budget. When we all work together, we can make sure kids get the healthy food they need. No Kid Hungry is a campaign of national anti-hunger organization Share Our Strength. Join us at NoKidHungry.org.
