One of the ways that Austin Housewives in the City supports our local community is by spotlighting a charity at each of our monthly events. Last month at our January Girls Night Out, we spotlighted a local Austin charity called Austin Child Guidance Center.
In 1951, Austin Child Guidance Center became Austin’s first outpatient mental health facility solely dedicated to children’s mental health. To this day, ACGC remains the leader in affordable mental health care for Austin area children and their families. ACGC predominantly provides services to underserved children who might otherwise go without care.
I had so much fun with the women of the organization at our event and Austin Housewives will definitely be working with ACGC again in the future! Austin Child Guidance Center's mission is: To improve the mental health of children and their families through early intervention, diagnosis, and treatment to help them develop the emotional skills for meeting life’s challenges
ACGC provides an abundant amount of services for the children and parents involved in their organization such as: Individual Therapy, Family Therapy, Group Therapy, Psychological Assessments and much more! ACGC’s multi-disciplinary team of therapists utilizes evidenced-based treatments to work with children experiencing: anxiety, trauma, physical and sexual abuse, grief, neglect, depression, divorce, adoption, parent child relational issues, substance abuse, disruptive behavior disorders, and learning and communication disorders. Therapy services include evidence-based treatments such Parent-Child Interaction Therapy as well as Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, among many others.
We asked all of our attendees to bring arts & crafts supplies to donate to the children of ACGC and I think they made out pretty well! Brittany Golden, the community engagement specialist at ACGC, was a dream to work with and she was thrilled with the results of the donations given by local Austin women!
I cannot give enough positive feedback about Austin Child Guidance Center, they were amazing in every aspect of our interactions! If you so feel the desire, please reach out to them for volunteer opportunities and/or donations of any kind! The staff members there are extremely competent and helpful!
