NEWCITY HOSTS INTERNATIONAL DAY OF LITERACY EVENT BENEFITING LURIE CHILDREN’S HOSPITAL AND CHICAGO HOPES FOR KIDS SEPTEMBER 8
The Free, Family-Friendly Celebration Encourages Local Community to Donate Necessary Books and Items to Children’s Charities
WHAT: In honor of the back-to-school season and International Day of Literacy, NEWCITY is hosting a Literacy Collection Celebration Saturday, September 8 from 1 – 4 p.m., benefiting Lurie Children’s Hospital and Chicago HOPES For Kids. At the celebration, families and children will be able to learn more about Lurie Children’s Hospital, Chicago HOPES For Kids, sit out at the plaza to read borrowed books provided by Chicago HOPES For Kids. A balloon artist, face painter, free treats will be available.
As participating tenants of NEWCITY, Yard House will provide free kids meal cards to attendees, Earl’s Restaurant has donated a gift card prize, German Kitchen Center is sponsoring kids treats and Evereve will give 15 percent of all purchases made by event attendees to Lurie Children’s and Chicago HOPES For Kids. NEWCITY will also be holding a donation collection for necessary items for children who are not able to go back to school, due to serious illness or homelessness the week prior, September 1-8, leading up to the event.

Celebrate National Video Game Day by visiting Replay in Lincoln Park!
Replay Lincoln Park is opening their doors early to host an all-ages gaming competition on Wednesday, September 12! Home to over 60 free arcade and video games, including Pac-man, Space Invaders, and Mario Bros, Replay will invite gamers – including children – to experience the venue and join in on the fun from 3-8 p.m. During the event, parent and child teams will enjoy specialty cocktails and craft beer (paired with special mock-tails for children) while competing to be the first team to play all of the games at Replay and receive a prize!

Last weekend we grabbed our friends and drove out to Jonamac Orchard in Malta, IL. for this year’s Hard Cider Run (Chicago)! It was a super hot day for a 5k but we pushed through and scratched this one off of our #LocalTourist bucket list for 2018!

CHICAGO, IL — Touted by the Chicago Tribune as an “immensely likable, intelligent and very intimate show,” Dr. Ricardo Rosenkranz is back by popular demand with The Rosenkranz Mysteries: Physician Magician. Performances begin Tuesday, March 27, with a press opening on Tuesday, April 3 at the Royal George Theatre Cabaret, 1641 N Halsted Street in Chicago for a limited engagement.
In this one man, ninety-minute production, the award-winning Rosenkranz will present truly astounding numbers that will captivate audiences in an intimate, cabaret style setting. The Rosenkranz Mysteries: Physician Magician highlights what the Chicago Tribune calls Rosenkranz’s “healing power of magic,” with signature pieces and performances brought to the stage to showcase magic that cannot be seen anywhere else.
“There is something beautiful and wonderful about the unknown, and I think in that sense, magic and medicine share a DNA,” said Rosenkranz. “I am committed to creating a unique experience that energizes and uplifts every audience.”
Every illusion has been meticulously researched, created, and staged with the nation’s most elite and respected magicians including the late Eugene Burger (Director of Magic) whose credits include The Art of Magicon PBS and Mysteries of Magic on The Learning Channel; Jeff McBridge (Chief Magic Consultant) whose credits include being designated as Grand Prix of Magic winner in Monte Carlo; legendary magician Johnny Thompson (Magic Consultant) whose credits include Executive Director, Penn & Teller’s Fool Us; and Chicago’s premier Mentalist Ross Johnson (Magic Consultant); Jan Rose and Jordan Wright (Magic Team).
Since the close of his sold-out run in the winter of 2016, Dr. Ricardo Rosenkranz has performed for Penn & Teller’s fool us in Las Vegas, and recently completed a very successful run at the world famous Magic Castle in Hollywood. In addition, Dr. Rosenkranz headlined at the Prestigious Magic Circle in London and was honored by The Magic Circle to Associate of the Inner Magic Circle with Silver Star. Rosenkranz is an award-winning and respected faculty member at the Northwestern University Feinberg School of Medicine. He has been fascinated by magic since a young age and has long been incorporating his illusions into his teaching as a way to help engage students and encourage participation. After winning several teaching awards and traveling the country to deliver seminars, Rosenkranz decided to bring his act to the stage in Chicago.
The Rosenkranz Mysteries: Physician Magician stars Ricardo Rosenkranz as “The Physician Magician”, Jan Rose as “The Hostess” and Balsamo as himself. The show is directed by Northwestern graduate Jessica Fisch (Fefu and Her Friends at the Goodman Theatre/Rivendell Latina/o Celebration), and is produced by Opus Magica Music, LLC and Ricardo Rosenkranz. The Rosenkranz Mysteries: Physician Magician opens April 3 with previews beginning March 27. The show is intended for ages 12 and older. Tables in the cabaret space seat 4 guests ($75 per person). Just Dance Live pilot tour to visit Chicago in March 2018
CHICAGO— February 2018– Ubisoft has announced its first foray in to live entertainment experience with a pilot tour of JUST DANCE LIVE, an immersive and interactive experience, based on the #1 music video game franchise of all time. The tour will play locally at Aon Grand Ballroom at Navy Pier in Chicago Thursday, March 15 – Sunday, March 18.
“Expanding the 2D world of the video games in to a vivid 3D universe, JUST DANCE LIVE celebrates the characters, costumes, moves and music that more than 120 million global Just Dancers know and love, while providing an exciting new escape for fun seekers of all ages”, said Hinde Daoui, Live Entertainment producer, Ubisoft.
JUST DANCE LIVE is an explosive 2+ hour experience, where the world of JUST DANCE comes alive like never before. Part stage show, part audience-involvement, fans play an integral role in the show—from walking the red carpet, to mingling with other JUST DANCERS, to transforming their hair and makeup looks in the “Get Ready For it” zone -- all before entering a thrilling live performance that surrounds audience members.

Regular ticket prices start at $45.
