Hey ladies! I know I have been MIA for quite a while. This summer has been pretty crazy and I’ve had to deal with things I hoped I never would have to at this age. I will touch on that subject later.
My son, Jace, started 3rd grade this week!! Can I pause for a second to cry about how old that makes me feel?!
During the months of July and August, we do quite a bit of traveling sans child. It can be difficult at times, especially once school starts. This ends up leaving me with quite a bit of what I like to call “mom guilt”.
Typically, this guilty feeling results in me trying to spoil my child to make up for not being home. Say what you will, but it’s how I deal with things.
This was the first weekend that I was home and had absolutely NOTHING planned. It was amazing!!
Friday, we had a pool party and Jace invited his best buddy from up the street. I love living in a neighborhood full of kids! They always have someone to play with and it helps to keep them out of the house and away from the Ipads and video games.
Later that evening we all piled in the car and headed over to our favorite little chicken wing place, called Gina’s Italian Kitchen. Afterwards, we decided to stop at Flubs. It is a small little ice cream stand that is famous around town. The lines were each at least 20 people deep and the drive thru had cars backed up into the street! The boys got their favorite, blue raspberry sherbet. They were both a sticky mess by the time they finished.
Saturday morning, we woke up and decided to head to our local amusement park, Kings Island. I bought season passes at the beginning of the summer. Again, we travel a lot, so we had only used them once so far. The weather started out perfect. We rode a few roller coasters, had lunch, and visited the petting zoo. Then, as the temperature crept up on us, we decided to head to the water park.
The wave pool was absolutely packed with people trying to escape the hot humid Cincinnati air. We floated there for a few rounds of waves and then Jace decided to try his hand out some boogie boarding! Luckily, he still thinks it is fun when you wipe out!
When we got home, we ended up with a house full of boys for a sleepover. They swam more and stuffed their faces with pizza before finally crashing from all the fun!
Sunday was filled with more great weather and swimming with friends. We ended the weekend with some grilling and relaxing on the couch, snuggled up watching a movie.
We had such a wonderful weekend together. It helped ease my “mom guilt” just a bit. We leave again tomorrow for our last long trip of the summer so I’m sure more spoiling will be in order when we get back!
Have your kids started back to school yet?
How are you spending your last few weekends of summer?
I hope you all have a wonderful week!
I am the mother to one wild child and 2 fur babies. I have lived in the Cincinnati area my entire life. It is unbelievable the amount of things there are to do and see in this city and I can't wait to share them with you! Stay tuned for announcements about our monthly Girls' Night Out events and opportunities to showcase local businesses.
