As I am sure y'all have notice, Fall seems to have skipped right over those of us in the Queen City. Old man winter has already started to rear it's ugly head.
The last thing I want to do is go trick or treating tonight when it is only supposed to be 40 degrees outside! I would rather go to the store tomorrow and buy every bag of discounted candy they had. But, good luck getting my 8 year old on board with that idea!! So instead, I have to come up with ways to stay warm.
As much as I despise cold weather there has always been something that makes it a little more bearable...Hot Chocolate!!
I called my grandma up to ask her how she used to make us hot chocolate when we were kids. It was always so much better than the powdered box mix! Here is the recipe she gave me. Straight off of one of those little 3x5 index cards.
In a large pan pour in:
6 cups of milk
1 1/2 cups of heavy cream
1 - 14 oz can of sweetened condensed milk
1 - 12 oz pack of chocolate chips
1 teaspoon of vanilla
and just a tiny pinch of salt
stir all the ingredients together until the chocolate chips are melted and everything is warm and creamy!
You could also make this in a crockpot if you needed to keep it warm for a little while.
For tonight, I think I'll add a little splash of peppermint schnapps to help warm me up!!
Let me know if you decide to try this recipe. It would also be perfect for the upcoming nights if you go out to drive around to see the neighborhood Christmas lights!!
Happy Halloween everyone :)
Last night I hosted my very first networking and vendor event with Housewives in the City. The venue, Myrtle's Punch House, was fantastic. It is in the most adorable little area of East Walnut Hills. The vibe was so laid back with the lounge seating and the beautiful fireplace on the first floor. The food and drinks were eclectic and delicious. They even created a gorgeous signature drink for our guests! I can not thank them enough for opening their doors and allowing me to use their space.
I also want to give a super special thank you to our vendors!
Jenny Pleiman with Stella & Dot was there with all of her amazing accessories. Did y'all know that Stella & Dot sold clothes now?!! I was pleasantly surprised. The tops she had displayed were so cute and she had the perfect accessories to dress them up or down. You can check out everything she has to offer on her website: stelladot.com/jennypleiman .
Lipsense by Senegence was in the house!! Being represented by lovely Emily Blanton. She had the most adorable table display and I have to say, her products can sell themselves. Lipsense is amazing and once you try it you will be instantly addicted! My lipstick stayed flawless even after hours of chatting it up and sipping hibiscus spritzers. You can join Emily's group, Blissful Beauty with Emily Blanton, on Facebook to find out how to get your hands on this long lasting lipstick
The dynamic duo, Ashley Ballman and Kelley Conner, joined us to tell everyone about EVER skin. It is a new company that boasts clinical grade, botanically derived skin care products. The products are clean. They follow European regulations meaning they are free of toxins and harmful chemicals that you may find in some other skin care regimens. The samples of the Lavish body butter that they included in the swag bags is heavenly! Kelley will also be joining us next month so if you missed them this time around, be sure to stop out!
Last but certainly not least, is our charity partner. Carly Lagory and Lisa Neff were front and center last night bringing awareness to their organization, Operation Blessing Bags. OBB collects items such as; new socks, toothbrushes, crayons, and coloring books. They put these items into nice backpack style drawstring bags and the bags are donated to local children's services agencies. They are handed out to kids who have been displaced from their homes and are being moved into foster care. Many times, these children come in carrying their belongings in garbage bags or plastic shopping bags. Carly is building this organization on the hope that these blessing bags will bring a little joy to the children as they go through what is likely a tough transition. I have never met two women more passionate about helping other people. They were an amazing addition to the evening. If you would like to learn more about Operation Blessing Bags and ways that you can help visit: operationblessingbag.com
I had a great night for my first event. I met some wonderful women and made some lasting connections. Be sure to check us out next month Tuesday, November 14th at Cantina Laredo in the Liberty Center. You can RSVP here! tacotuesdayatcantinalaredo.eventbrite.com
I FINALLY got to see Fiona!!! Well at least part of her…
Unless you have been living in a cave with no access to social media since January, chances are, you know exactly who I am talking about.
Fiona the hippo instantly became famous when she was born on January 24th, six weeks premature. She overcame the odds and is now doing great and gets to hang out in her enclosure with her parents most of the day. She still has to take some afternoon breaks. So if you do go to see her, try to get there early!
We have been experiencing some unseasonably warm weather this fall, and Saturday was the perfect day for a trip to the zoo. This time of year is great because almost all of the animals are out roaming around their habitats. It must have been a little too warm for my favorite, the polar bear! He was not out to play this time. But this just gives me an excuse to go back in December for The Festival of Lights!
Unfortunately, we were ill prepared for HallZOOween and didn’t have costumes. That didn’t stop little man from hitting up every treat stop and catching a sufficient sugar buzz!
My favorite part of the day was getting to feed the giraffes. They are such gentle beautiful animals.
People probably don’t think of the zoo as a place to find good food. If you are ever there and get the munchies be sure to head over to The Outpost and grab a Queen City Burger! It is a huge juice patty topped with bacon, lettuce, tomato and a sweet smokey bacon jam. My mouth is watering just writing about it!
We had such a great day and I can’t wait to head back soon to see the beautiful twinkle of The Festival of Lights.
What is your favorite zoo exhibit?
I am the mother to one wild child and 2 fur babies. I have lived in the Cincinnati area my entire life. It is unbelievable the amount of things there are to do and see in this city and I can't wait to share them with you! Stay tuned for announcements about our monthly Girls' Night Out events and opportunities to showcase local businesses.
