Along with family, friends, food and gifting one of the most special parts of holidays are the traditions. Traditions last forever and make that impression in all of us that truly makes holidays feel so special and uniquely memorable. One of our favorite holiday traditions has been going to the Cleveland Playhouse to see a holiday musical, This year we went to see Rudolph it was an incredible show and I am always in awe the way a stage can be completely transformed into a magical setting to really get everyone in the holiday spirit! What's your favorite holiday tradition? Happy Holidays!

Women Business Boutique

11/5/2018

When a good friend told me about a women's business conference she was attending in Nashville I jumped at the opportunity. As a small business owner who supports other women businesses I thought what a great opportunity to take away some new tips and tricks to share. When we pulled into the welcome event, I was expecting a few hundred ladies and could not believe my eyes to see over 3,000 women! Women either just starting out or taking their businesses to another level. The 3 day event had speakers, break out sessions and motivator speakers, that was just what this girl boss needed. Seeing how someone can take a small idea and turn it into a million dollar business in many different fields and ideas was very uplifting.
The most important takeaways that I would share are these.
1. Learn the art of Yes and the art of No.  Yes to trying things ithat are out of comfort zone in other words that scare you. Say No to the things that will take more of your energy then could  reap you great rewards.
2, Have a clear vision of what your goals are, write them down and then take small steps to achieve them.
3. Focus, Focus, Focus - with entrepreneurs this is the hardest part finalizing on only one idea. But once you do hone in on it and go for it!
4. Confidence - this is pivotal to being successful, because if you don't believe in you who will?
5. Mentor and support network - Having people in your life who not only can give you unbiased advice but who are also your cheerleaders will propel you even further to achieving your goals.
Whatever is in you that strikes a chord in and you are passionate about pursuing - do that!

7 Inspiring boss babe books you have to read!

10/8/2018

Boss Babe Ashlee Anderson shares with us some of her favorite boss babes books

I’m a sucker for a good book. And thanks to the free Amazon Kindle Reading app, I have access to thousands of books across all my devices.
This means I can read a best-seller while waiting in line or re-read a treasured favorite on a Friday night from my phone, tablet or, you guessed it, my Kindle Fire.
But more likely than not, I’m reading tons of non-fiction ebooks. Specifically, ones that inspire me as a blogger, solopreneur, and mom.
In fact, it’s in the virtual pages of these ebooks that I’ve learned how to grow an online presence and keep persevering, even when the going gets tough — you know, become a bona fide girl boss in the making!
You could probably use a little inspiration every now and again too. I mean, who couldn’t?
So, without further ado, here’s a list of 7 of the most inspiring girl boss books I’ve read (so far).
In their pages, I hope you find the same motivation and meaningful advice that will awaken your inner girl boss and spur her into unstoppable action!

 1. Shark Tales by Barbara Corcoran

Even if Shark Tank wasn’t one of my favorite shows, I’d still be singing the praises of Shark Tales, a spirited book on entrepreneurship by Barbara Corcoran. True, this book isn’t geared to women in particular but reading Barbara’s personal stories and her take on business is sure to be motivating for any aspiring girl boss.
For being a heavy-hitting business book on how she turned $1,000 into a billion dollar business, it was actually a light, enjoyable read. In fact, I devoured this entire book in just a few nights. Barbara’s personal anecdotes as well as life lessons learned from her mom (i.e., offer the bigger piece and yours will taste better), helped keep things entertaining. But in true Barbara fashion, this book is filled with plenty of no-nonsense, actionable advice for budding entrepreneurs. If Barbara can quit her job as a waitress at 22 and parlay a grand into a billion dollar business, you can too!

2. Woman Up! Overcoming the 7 Deadly Sins that Sabotage Your Success by Aimee Cohen
We’ve all been told to “man up” at some point in time when there was a task ahead we did not want to do. And now Aimee Cohen is taking that message directly to women with her insightful career book, Woman Up! This is a must-read for any girl boss who needs a little extra push to take their career into their own hands — and that’s exactly what it did for me!
Honestly, I wasn’t even sure this book was for me. After all, I wasn’t looking to climb the corporate ladder. Still, Aimee’s personal stories of success (and failure) helped put things in perspective for me as a solopreneur and freelancer. And learning the 7 deadly sins that sabotage success (which I was guilty of ALL of them), helped me overcome self-doubt and fear of failure. Wherever you’re at in your career and regardless of the path you want to take, Aimee will show you how to get there.

3. The Anti 9 to 5 Guide by Michelle Goodman
Last year I was struck with a bout of the flu that rendered me useless for an entire week. And while I felt like I got ran over by a mac truck, there was one good(ish) perk: Being able to catch up on reading! That’s when I stumbled across and feverishly read The Anti 9 to 5 Guide by Michelle Goodman.
Maybe it was the 102-degree fever at the time, but I swear the words on the page leapt out at me as if Michelle was my best girlfriend sitting there dishing out the best pep talk of my life. If you’re looking to escape your cubicle, I think you’ll find it to be equally eye-opening (no fever required). After all, not all women want to climb the corporate ladder or get that corner office. Michelle gets that. And she’ll show you how you can pursue your passion outside of your day job without going broke — win, win.

4. Venture Mom by Holly Hurd
There’s a growing movement of mothers who want the best of both worlds — to stay at home with their families and bring home the bacon. And why not? We really can have it all, right? According to Venture Mom by Holly Hurd we can. And she’s showing other would-be mompreneurs how to take the leap from stay-at-home parent to home-based startup.
I know that sounds like a tall order to fill but Holly breaks it down into manageable chunks that can be completed over the course of 12 weeks. This is the perfect step-by-step guide for moms to pick a profitable idea and get it off the ground — quickly. And don’t worry, there’s plenty of stories of success and helpful tips to push you through to the next step even when you feel like giving up (been there, done that).

5. #GirlBoss by Sophia Amoruso
No girl boss booklist would be complete without mentioning #GirlBoss by Sophia Amoruso. A #girlboss herself, she shares what it was like to break free from a job she took only for the health insurance to in order to pursue entrepreneurship.
Granted, Sophia took an unconventional path to entrepreneurship by way of petty theft and dumpster diving. But in the end, she opted for a mainstream business: selling vintage clothes on Ebay. Fast forward a few years where she found herself the founder and CEO of Nasty Gal, a huge, multi-million dollar online fashion retailer. Before reading this book, I’ll admit, I had no idea who Sophia was. But now, I’ll never forget her. The stories she shares are funny and thought provoking. If you’ve got a girl boss deep down inside of you, Sophia will pull it out of you, no matter how winding, exhausting, or strange the journey may be to set her free.

6. Girl Code: Unlocking the Secrets to Success, Sanity, and Happiness for the Female Entrepreneur by Cara Alwill LeybaI
I used to have this false belief that, in order to be a successful girl boss, you had to be perfect. There were no mistakes and you were effortlessly flawless in all things you did. Boy, was I wrong. And I credit Girl Code by Cara Alwill Leyba for showing me the light. Cara so brilliantly discusses how breakdowns and missteps contribute to our success and how building a community of like-minded girl bosses can make us all better entrepreneurs. Because what’s good for the goose is good for the gander, right? Right!

But seriously, this book was truly enlightening and personally helped me breakthrough some of my own misconceptions about being a female entrepreneur. And if you’re a side hustler, solopreneur, blogger or anything in between, you’ll appreciate the roadmap laid out in these pages that will help you achieve happiness and self-confidence all while building a supportive network of fellow girl bosses!

7. How to Blog for Profit: Without Selling Your Soul by Ruth Soukup
I know not all girl bosses are bloggers (or even want to consider blogging), but I just had to share How to Blog for Profit: Without Selling Your Soul by Ruth Soukup on this list! This was one of the many, many blogging books I read while launching Work from Home Happiness. And, hands down, it was the one that resonated with me the most and proved to be the most valuable!
Ruth gets candid about why she started blogging and some of the struggles she met early on. But even when faced with challenges she persevered because she really, really wanted it. I totally got that. And I think a lot of girl bosses can relate to that passion and drive that gets us out of bed each morning, ready to face the day — no matter what it may bring. So, if you’ve thought about starting a blog, are a freelancer with a service site, or an infopreneur, you can benefit from Ruth’s words of wisdom as you work to grow your online presence (without selling your soul!)

Unleash Your Inner Girl Boss! There you have it, 7 incredible and inspiring books to awaken the girl boss buried inside of you. Whether you’re already launched or thinking about it, these books can serve as a source of inspiration and support as you make your way through the world of female entrepreneurship.

9 HABITS OF ORGANIZED BOSS babes

10/1/2018

Picture

I found this fantastic article by Cee Lee Reed that I wanted to share to help get my fellow boss babes on how to get and stay organized.

She makes a schedule

Boss lady, you need to come up with a daily schedule that works with your lifestyle.  Organize the tasks that you have to do each day into a list with expected time frames. Once you know how much time you need for each biz task, schedule it on a calendar day that makes sense.
Batch like items together for added productivity. Tweak your calendar until you have every task in its designated time slot while still leaving a little wiggle room for extras, because you know something unexpected will come up.
Work with your new schedule for at least a week and then make any changes needed. The only way to know this is to actually implement what you created. Business owners must constantly adjust to improve their chances of success; organized boss ladies make this a habit.
Batching your blog tasks will keep your brain optimized for organization.

She puts every item in its place
One of the most important habits of organized Boss ladies is that they create a clutter-free existence.  Every item in her office, home, car and handbag resides in a meticulously patterned space. Do this by cleaning each of your rooms and making a decision as to the best place for the items that reside there.

 Organize these in the office:
  • Pens and pencils in a case
  • Magazines on a rack
  • Cords for the camera, iPod, GoPro and such in a decorative box
  • Files kept in an alphabetically labeled drawer
Do not waste any additional brain power wondering where to put something away. Once you do the initial clean and purge, announce the official location for everything.  You’ll be so glad that you did. Then just build a habit of returning things to their right place when finished using. No more cleaning!

She keeps running list of things to do
One to-do list is all that you need. Decide on either paper or electronic. Use it as one of the habits of organized Boss ladies. I like writing things done as it helps me remember more but if you’re an Wunderlist girl, have at it.
PRO TIP: Not all of your list entries will be in the same category so be sure to create headers/titles on your list to separate biz tasks from home chores.

She preps her day the night before
The best way to organize your mornings and work day is to prep for it the night before.  Organization requires planning and then implementation. You should be ready to work when you sit down each day and the only way to prepare for this is to create a list of your Top 3 goals for the day. Look ahead at that calendar you made (you did it right?) and focus on what has to be finished this week.

She keeps her desk space neat
You spend a lot of time sitting at your desk so be sure it’s setup for you to be productive. Keep it clean (dust it weekly), clutter free (throw that trash away) and a place you want to be. Queue hubby’s photo and that huge piece of Citrine. Make sure you straighten the contents of your desk every night before leaving so your happy place welcome you the next day.

Keep only three folders on your desk:
  • To Read
  • To-Do (needs action, add to your Wonderlist with a date)
  • To File

She doesn’t procrastinate
Full. Steam Ahead.  This phrase was given to ships that were driving forward at top speed.  See the similarities?  You have to move forward with determination, energy and enthusiasm. You can’t grow your business the way you want to if you’re stuck in a cycle of waiting and pondering.

Get into the habits of organized Boss ladies and be quick to make a decision and even quicker to act on it. If this isn’t your forte, start small. We’re faced with tons of questions each day so start rewarding yourself for answering (and more importantly acting upon) your responses.

Not deciding is still a decision. Make the right one.

She enjoys the company of other organized women
Learn how to be organized from others that seem to know what they’re doing.  Upgrade your conversations about business by joining Facebook groups and Masterminds. It’s great to have a night out with your friends from time to time, but you need to surround yourself with like-minded women that will push you to grow and expand your thinking.

One of the hardest things I’ve ever done was say goodbye to some friends that just didn’t understand and encourage my love of online business. It ended amicably but essentially I had to express how my life had changed and we didn’t have much in common anymore.  It’s hard but necessary. Keep me in your company and work with me. Together we’ll get you organized for success.
She blocks out distractions during her work day
FOCUS should be your favorite word. Focusing and concentrating on the task at hand will keep you organized and on ahead of the game. You can get more done when you block out any distractions and simply work. Being organized means you recognize what those distractions are (music, kids, phone notifications) and you put them in their place. Put your phone on silent when working or teach others to use an urgent code if their message can’t wait.

She sets up a morning ritual to start her day
This habit is one that has changed my life, literally. I now start my day on a positive note, with a smile and excitement to get to work. After reading how other Boss ladies were getting more done by starting their day right, I decided to implement a morning ritual (or routine).
My morning ritual consists of a hot tea, lighting a pink sea salt candle, cleansing my office with Palo Santo wood, reading my goals and affirmations, my Top 3 tasks and brief meditation.  All of this takes just minutes. After all, the point of starting your day is to actually start.
I just find that this brief interlude each morning gets me prepared for the tasks I need to accomplish and leaves me feeling refreshed and ready to tackle the day. It makes me happy.

These 9 Habits of organized Boss Ladies will leave you feeling more put together and able to accomplish more in your business. Not everyone is born naturally organized however you can teach yourself this important trait. Once you realize the benefits of getting and stay organized, you’ll have an insatiable need to continue improving other aspects of your life and biz. Organized spaces make you feel more relaxed and confident in your experience. Get organized and stay that way.
