Leading ladies: McKenzie Reifschneider DC on her growing business and becoming medically integrated
Meet McKenzie Reifschneider. With a welcoming smile that will light up the room, it is very apparent that she is one of the main driving forces behind a local Chiropractic office that has grown, exponentially, in the past few years. She opened her practice in 2006 and has been in love with her job ever since!
McKenzie has 2 sweet Italian Greyhounds, Stella and Sophia (who I have personally met and they are the cutest!) and enjoys every aspect of life! She is an all around happy gal with an amazingly positive presence, a great listener and so fun to be around. I love her energy and willingness to help. She is truly a go-getter! Find out what drives her below.
Describe yourself in three words:
Confident, genuine, and caring
Tell us about your business and how you became the successful business woman you are today:
I knew I had such unique ideas on treating patients, I wanted to be different, I wanted a different type of practice...that entailed me starting my own clinic. Once I had the idea, there was no backing down. I am an extremist at heart, I go full hilt... I wanted to make waves in the Chiropractic/Physical Therapy profession. I work between 50-65 hours per week, I have always worked long days, but with a large staff it is necessary to keep everyone on the same page.
Our clinic is an integrative health group providing Interventional Pain Management, Sports Chiropractic, Physical Therapy, Therapeutic Massage, Functional Personal Training and Craniosacral Therapy. We provide a range of healthcare services including yearly physicals (including bloodwork and images), muscle trigger point and large joint injections, IV therapies (hydration, immunity, weight loss), Active Release and Graston Techniques (specialized soft tissue treatments), Functional Dry Needling, Spinal Decompression, Personal Training, and Gait Analysis.
Keeping positive is easy when you are passionate about your career, but there is one quote that always rings true, "Begin each day with a decision to be happy". You make your own happiness...
What are your professional goals for the next six months?:
Within the next 6 months we will continue to perfect the transition into a medical group of my south office. We will continue to mentor our north office staff and employees as well as begin to develop a plan on our third (downtown Denver) office.
What do you consider your greatest professional achievement?:
Owning two offices and two businesses, one of them becoming a medically integrated clinic with multiple practitioners.
What profession other than your own would you like to attempt?:
I began college preparing to enter medical school, changing my professional career my senior year.
I would still like to attempt medical school, specifically a plastic surgeon.
How do you maintain a work/life balance?:
For me personally, the key is to rise early in the morning and exercise, it gives you energy for the entire work day. By 6pm you are finished with your workday, you have squeezed in some exercise and you have the evening hours to spend socially.
What websites do you visit every day?:
Mercola.com (for quick pieces of medical info), The Daily Skimm (to have a small idea of what is going on in the world on a daily basis), PubMed (try to read one or two research articles daily) and of course Google!
What are your top three favorite people/places/things to do in your city?:
Amal Alamuddin (currently obsessed, she is literally changing women's lives and changing the world we live in), ClassPass (what a great idea!), Physical Dimensions (my office..my heart and soul built our practice, it really is one of my favorite places)
What is your goal for retirement?:
I never plan on completely retiring as I love what I do, but I do plan to work less hours. I hope to one day own/manage a pro bono women's only clinic that provides services to those in need, this would be a wonderful retirement project to keep me busy!
Do you have any advice for women who'd like to start their own company?:
Jump with both feet it, but remember build slow. Don't spend all of your capital money on the aesthetics, material items, equipment or product right from the start...spend time building relationships and save the money for those first six months of no salary. Then begin to purchase things for your business as clients begin to increase...slow and steady.
Any final comments?:
A recent news article reported that women will eventually earn as much as men in the work world in 2059...lets make it sooner!
