Question: What is the name of your business?
Answer: Melaluca.com the Wellness Company
Question: Tell us about your business and how you became the successful business woman you are today.
Answer: I am a mom of two beautiful little girls with a corporate background in Pharmaceutical sales. In 2009, I was overwhelmed and overworked and decided to come out of the traditional workforce and dedicate my time and talents to my family. While I loved every minute of my newfound freedom - I quickly realized that as AWESOME as being a stay at home mama was, I could not do it with zero dollars coming in. I needed a solution. Melaleuca.com has more than provided that solution earning me over 500,000.00 WHILE enabling me to live my life on my own terms.
Question: Describe yourself in three words
Answer: Ambitious, Hardworking, and Loving
Question: What do you consider your greatest professional achievement?
Answer: Creating a salary that rivaled my Pfizer income WHILE never missing a moment with my family.
Question: What are your professional goals for the next six months?
Answer: Mentoring some amazing women who are really looking for an opportunity that does not include "buying inventory", "startup fees" or "vendor booths". Mentoring women is my favorite part of this process. Women are often led to believe that there are only three choices. 1. Work outside of the home 2. Hosting parties that require an inventory be sold or 3. Staying at home on a tight budget. There is another way! I have so much fun helping women see the possibilities.
Question: What profession other than your own would you like to attempt?
Answer: I have love for learning (education of how to live healthier is a big part of what I do with my personal client base), and currently spend as much time as I can carve out as a substitute (filling in when/where needed) teacher. Helping kids turn that light bulb on gives me a charge like no other.
Question: How do you maintain a work/life balance?
Answer: The entire reason I decided to walk down the "road less traveled" was that I needed to prioritize my family first. Having control of my schedule is a blessing that some women only dream of. My weeks are never the same. So much has to happen to keep my family running and I am often running in different directions. The amazing thing about my job (educating people on how to make better choices and earning business out of the Target or Whole Foods environment and into our online fresh marketplace) is that while my hours are never optional - at least if I intend to succeed - they are always flexible. Each Sunday I sit down with my family and my calendar and plug in what is needed of me. I prioritize them first, and then I calendar in my 'work' hours. This way I can end each day feeling like I have accomplished all that matters to me - while earning an income - it's pretty cool.
Question: What websites do you visit every day?
Answer: housewivesinthecity.com of course ;). Also, I spend time on Verseoftheday.com, Facebook.com, and Instagram on a daily basis.
Question: What are your top three favorite people/places/things to do in your city?
Answer: I love Devils Thumb Ranch - the outside camping / riding / ranch experience but with a high end twist. I also love Castlewood Canyon State park. It is majestic and really an amazing place to take your family for some fresh air and unplugging. Finally, number 3 on my list is Colorado Springs. So much to do there. I love the Garden of the Gods, I love the Broadmoor, I love the museums, I love the zoo..... it is just really a fun place to relax and unwind.
Question: What is your goal for retirement?
Answer: I am not sure what that time of my life is going to look like. Obviously, my primary goal is to go into those years and live in them healthy. Without health we have absolutely no chance of happiness. This is why I am hyper focused on making changes that will help to ensure that I am giving myself the best shot at this goal. Good eating, lots of water, high quality supplements (Melaleuc.com), removing as much of the environmental junk as I can control, etc... Next on my retirement wish list is having options. So many retirees have limited options because they simply do not have any money. Will I travel? Will I buy a condo to live part time in the mountains? Will I want to be by my grandbabies? Will I want to volunteer at the church? I don't know.... but I do know that so many folks dont have the 'choice'. I need this. And just like health.... giving myself the best chance at having options at retirement requires hard work and planning now. Another reason I have given over 10 years to the company. They have not only helped me live my best life for the past decade, that most only day dream about, but I am certainly building a business that is geared to last a lifetime.
Question: Do you have any advice for women who'd like to start their own company?
Answer: Yes. If you are in - be in! 100% So many women have one foot in and one foot out. They don't even realize that they are doing this - but when this happens, they are defeated at the first road block. I have earned (as a stay at home mom) over $500,000 with my company. Do not expect to start where I am now... Understand that I spent a good two years trying to figure things out and another eight years working hard and staying intentionally consistent to grow to where I am now. So many people don't understand that anything worth having often takes tons of time, energy, and effort. When it doesn't just all work out - they quit. DO NOT LET GETTING STARTED STOP YOU. You can be your own best friend or your own worst enemy.
Question: Any final comments?
Answer: Yes! I am always open to talk with other entrepreneurial women to intimately share what my path has been and help them determine if it could be a good path for them too!
