So... I got laid off yesterday.
Have you ever been through a RIF (Reduction in Force")? Also known as a lay off, downsizing, getting cut, dissolving of divisions. Some of you may know that I have a day job. I have worked in the real estate and mortgage industry since 1999 and am currently a underwriter for ground up construction loans and FHA/Fannie Mae construction loans. I have a very specific specialized set of skills that comes with this type of processing/underwriting.
Yesterday, we had a visit from one of our managing directors who kindly (he really was super cool about it) let us know that they were shutting us down.
Now, I have been through about a half a dozen RIF's over the last 17 years, so I know what to expect and how it all works... and am a bit desensitized to it all.
We are getting severance and will be working through the end of July... but now the hunt begins for a new job.
Or maybe not! On to bigger and better things as doors are always opening when others are closed!
How have you and your coworkers dealt with a RIF in the past? Comment below and let me know!
