On the left, me and Jenifer is on the right. This was our Junior Prom in 1998.
Lately, I have had this weird nostalgia thing going on. I am starting to feel stuck in the past, in a good way though.
I think it started a few weeks ago when I spent some time at the new Stanley Marketplace and went to a concert in Denver at the Ogden. I used to spend so much time in Downtown Denver when I was in my teens and 20's. I have been having a hard time saying, "When I was in my 20's...". It makes me cringe.
When I visited with the owners of Trunk Nouveau at the Stanley and found out that they also owned one of my all time FAVORITE stores (Pandoras on 13th), I instantly started reminiscing about all of the fun times I had spending hours inside of Wax Trax, iMi Jimi's, FashionNation, 5 & Dime, Snake Pit, Saul Haus, Pandora's... and more. I used to collect all of the Westwords (before they were full of dispensary and sex ads *snicker* ) and underground zines, flyers, papers, etc and make collages out of all the quirky things that caught my eye. Quirky... I was definitely quirky. Had my own sense of "style"... Somewhere between hippie-raver-stoner-tomboy. I mean, this was 1998-ish... so that was kind of the thing then anyhow. I wish I would have kept some of those collages!
I have recently gone through old photo albums, drawers of 4x6 photos that were taken with those fun Kodak disposable cameras and ....my year books. Oh man, some of the things written in my year books are HILARIOUS. To be 16 years old again... Although, I would only want to be 16 in the era of which I was 16. I don't think I would want to be a teenager with the level of social media that we have now. No, thank you.
Within these old photo albums, I found some crazy things that I have saved over the years from different occasions. Pictures that friends drew for me, old concert ticket stubs (Helllo Pearl Jam, 1994, Red Rocks!), a half broken necklace that my childhood best friend gave me.... and another one is a large, gold metallic flower cut out made from the same plastic type material that confetti is made from. I picked it up off the ground at a high school homecoming dance that I went to. What year, what school and my dates name... NO idea but I know it wasn't my school. For some reason, I have always kept that little flower cut out.
Being 36, with my 20 year high school reunion around the corner, it really does blow my mind when I think about how fast time has gone by. I am so grateful for all of my life experiences, friends that have come and gone and those that are still around. Here's to another 36+ of making more memories to look back on!
Here are some of the old photos that I found!! From top left, going clockwise:
1) My Christi and I, around 2000.
2) My childhood best friend Sarah that passed away a few years ago. She is who I grew up with from elementary school, through our twenties. I miss her so much! I think I was 16 or 17 in this photo so, 97'/98'
3) Old school Traxx 2000 when it was on 20th and Walnut. Jordan and I in the back room, probably dancing to Groove is in the Heart... This was probably in 1999 or 2000
4) My junior year of high school. 1997-1998.
5) Dana, Francesca and I at Fran's 5th grade graduation. I am thinking this was 1999...
6) Freshman or Sophomore year at Smoky Hill. (95'/96'?) Check out my metal mouth! All of the braces!!
