It Takes A Village Canine Rescue is a no-kill canine rescue dedicated to doing what it takes to find loving homes for stray, abandoned, and surrendered animals, and to keep these animals safe and free from further suffering. It takes so much money to keep this non profit going so they host many events throughout the year including the Canine Carnival which was held on Saturday, June 23, 2018 at the new event center overlooking the Ohio River at the Tropicana Pavilion. This was my first year attending but won't be my last! It was so much fun...live music, live auction, silent auction and all for such a great cause! I personally am a huge dog lover so this non profit is near and dear to my heart....Looking forward to their next event!

Father’s Day is especially difficult for me as my father passed away 5 years ago right at this time so I use this day to reflect. I am an only child and was so very close to my dad…definitely a “Daddy’s Girl”! My father was a big giant. He stood over 6’6” tall and had quite a presence about himself..my protector. He was the first Chief of Police of Santa Claus, Indiana in the early 1970’s and was the one and only police in our small town as well as Holiday World (at the time was called Santa Claus Land). He was so big and strong but at the same time was so personable, Never met a stranger and was a total prankster! My dad held the position of Chief of Police for almost 15 years then worked security at Ellis Park and other places until he decided to do what he loved…cars! He opened up a used car lot in Tell City and it was so wonderful to see him selling cars as I could tell this was his passion…dealing in cars and helping people all at the same time! As soon as I graduated high school I immediately moved to the big city of Indianapolis and lived there for 20 years. In that time, I traveled the world but it didn’t matter if I was in Paris, France or in Indiana I called my dad every single day. We would talk about everything in life but always ended up talking about sports and I am a huge sports fan today because of him! I know he was always so proud of my accomplishments as people would always tell me that but what he never knew….I was just as proud of him!
Nine years ago I had my one and only child, Baron. My father was beaming with delight and truly loved my son more than anything! My dad was a diabetic and his health was getting worse through the years. We made the decision to move back to Santa Claus to be closer to family. It was the best decision I have ever made. For 6 months, we got to spend quality time together. He always wanted to take my son fishing but unfortunately that day never came. We celebrated Father’s Day 5 years ago and the following day he drove himself to Dialysis and passed away in the waiting room suddenly. A day I will never forget. I always say that 66 years old was way too young but at the same time he is in such a better place. I know that he is now watching from above every time my son catches a big fish or hits the baseball, he is smiling!
Today, I continue to hold on to all the good memories together and make sure my son never forgets him. My heart Always has belonged to Daddy and Always will!
Happy Father’s Day!
The Rooftop was such a fun and unique restaurant to have our June event! A beautiful Indiana summer evening was perfect to sit on the Rooftop, listen to live music, sip on a beverage, shop and socialize! This family owned restaurant is such a fabulous addition to downtown with amazing food, crafted cocktails and wonderful customer service.

Hi! I’m Karen…I was born and raised in a small town in southern Indiana…Santa Claus! I lived in Indianapolis for 20 years as an Event Planner and traveled the nation planning corporate events and private parties. Five years ago, I moved back to beautiful southern Indiana to be closer to family and have an adorable 9 year old boy named Baron. I also own an Event Planning Business in the Tristate and am constantly looking at ways to market my business and network and fell in love with the concept of Housewives In The City!
