I am so pleased to feature The SMILE Center as our Local Non Profit for the month of November!
The SMILE Center opened in 2011 and is located in downtown Evansville on 4th Street. It was designed to provide enrichment experiences for individuals with Down syndrome and other intellectual disabilities and their families. The name of this organization could not be more fitting…because you walk in the door of this facility and immediately Smile as you feel so much love in the room! The SMILE on Down Syndrome Mission Statement is: committed to provide a network of support services to meet the physical, emotional, spiritual, social and educational needs of people of all ages with Down syndrome, their families and communities. They provide creative and interactive play time for all ages from newborns to adults. Each year they celebrate Down Syndrome Awareness month in October by having a fundraiser called “The Smile Mile.” Funds are raised by corporate sponsorships and walkers’ pledges for the walk. Around 3,000 people participated in this year’s walk! It was such a special day filled with Smiles, Laughter and so much Love! They hold a variety of events throughout the year. Please keep updated on their Website and Facebook page!
Mark your calendars for a unique experience on Tuesday, November 14th 5:30-8:30pm at Gangnam Korean BBQ on Main Street of Evansville! If you haven't tried Korean food yet...It's a must! They have such an extensive menu including sushi that is Amazing! The ambiance is so fun and vibrant that it only seemed fitting that we include a DJ for the night so put on your dancing shoes...grab a fabulous cocktail, network with others and shop our vendors too! One thing that truly stands out to me with this locally owned business is they offer a 15% discount to all senior citizens, fire department, police officers and veterans. I love that! So...come check out this awesome restaurant, grab some friends and let's have some FUN!!!
Fidel’s Bourbon Bar was the setting of our October 12th event…. So many people dressed in 1920’s attire…feather boas, flapper girl dresses and gangster wear filled this Speakeasy which is set right above Walton’s restaurant in Haynie’s Corner. It was a perfect evening of socializing, sipping and shopping our fabulous vendors. If you have never visited Fidel’s, you need to check it out. The ambiance is unlike anything else in Evansville. You truly feel like you are in the Prohibition Era. Prizes were given out to the best costumes of the night and more door prizes than ever before! Below are our vendors from the event and their contact information!
Hi! I’m Karen…I was born and raised in a small town in southern Indiana…Santa Claus! I lived in Indianapolis for 20 years as an Event Planner and traveled the nation planning corporate events and private parties. Five years ago, I moved back to beautiful southern Indiana to be closer to family and have an adorable 9 year old boy named Baron. I also own an Event Planning Business in the Tristate and am constantly looking at ways to market my business and network and fell in love with the concept of Housewives In The City!
