My mother and I decided to step out today for brunch in Haynie’s Corner as we absolutely love The Dapper Pig Restaurant. This fun eclectic restaurant is more than just an average restaurant…it’s an experience. They have restored this old building in the Historic District and have created a Gem. There is plenty of seating outside on their beautiful patio, or inside where you can admire all the local artist’s paintings on the walls and great lighting on the ceiling. This restaurant believes in the “Farm To Table” philosophy as all ingredients are from the Evansville area! We ordered a Bloody Mary and were given a checklist of 40 items to choose from the categories of: spirits, veggies, herbs and meat. I selected the Grey Goose vodka with pickle spear, celery, pickled asparagus, cilantro (a must) and bacon (yes, 3 strips!) Then, you select the temperature of the drink: mild, medium or “holy hell hot”! When Kris, the fun and friendly bartender finished making my drink, it could have been my lunch! It was awesome! I ordered the b.l.a.t. (bacon, lettuce, avocado, fried green tomato) sandwich that melted in my mouth. This trendy restaurant and bar has won many local awards and if you haven’t tried it out yet, you must!
After we enjoyed that fabulous meal, we needed exercise so we ventured to Cherry Street between 2nd and 3rd Streets for the Sunday Market. It was such a wonderful sight to see around 60 local vendors fill the street with their products. A large crowd gathered on this beautiful day to support the local artists and artisans…it was definitely a great way to shop local!
