There are so many good things to be said about our first host venue. Rivermen Brewing Company is one of my favorite Belmont spots. With a great location in the heart of Belmont (just behind the post office), there is always plenty of parking. The service is fantastic. The beer is delicious and the food is great! We are so excited to spotlight this fantastic location. There's no longer a need to drive to Charlotte for a brewery visit, we have one right here in Belmont!

Being an extreme-'couponer' seems like a lot of work that I just don't have time for, but I promise you can save money without spending all Sunday clipping coupons from the paper. Here's how:
I'm a huge fan of online shopping. I don't really like to try clothes on in the store anymore, so I order online from retailers that offer free shipping and then I return what I don't want. I know, I end up in the store anyway, but I feel like trying something on at home gives me a better feel for how I'll feel in it when I get dressed in the morning. If I try something on and I don't LOVE it, I know I won't wear it and back to the store it goes.
There's a lot to love about online shopping. I love that it is so easy to add and subtract from my cart without creating a mess for store employees - I literally can't stand people who just dump stuff back somewhere other than where it belongs. It helps me keep my budget in check. If I've got $100 to spend on clothes, for example, I might find 15 things I like and it is much easier to add them all to my cart and go back and take out the items that aren't as appealing as the rest.
Above all else, I love that you can find a coupon for darn near ANYTHING you buy online.
RetailMeNot is my go-to for coupon codes when shopping online. It is where I most often find valid coupon codes. Even if it doesn't come up first in my Google search, I look for the retailmenot link. It sorts valid coupons from expired, which keeps you from trying tons of expired codes, getting frustrated and giving up. Keep in mind, that some retailers take expired coupons. Some only in-store and not online, but don't count out all expired coupons, just don't try those before trying valid codes.
Google is where I start and even though I jump straight to Retailmenot, sometimes I don't find a code. Give it a Google. Sometimes retailers even have their own page with codes. If those options fail, I usually look for coupons.com, etc. in my search results. I order NOTHING without giving a fair search for a coupon.
Ebates is my new favorite! I added the extension to Chrome on all of my devices and in just three orders over the weekend, I got back $15! The best part, I bought SALE items and applied COUPONS + got my Ebates money back! It takes no more than 5 minutes to dig through coupon codes and check for the best deal and I saved over $100 off retail prices between sale, coupon and cash back! Use a credit card that offers rewards and you'll add to my savings! You can earn $10 from Ebates by joining via this link. Then add the extension to your chrome and you can choose from a PayPal deposit or a check! When you visit a site that gives Ebates cash back, just click "activate" on the pop up. It's THAT easy. FREE money you otherwise would not have had. I'm only mad at myself for not doing it sooner! Kick your coupon game up a notch by browsing Ebates retailers and checking their prices vs. competitors. Make sure its still a better deal but factor in the Ebates! I urge you to add the extention, because I've been a member for a year and that entire year, I gave up free money!
You can also save $10 on your Walmart grocery order by creating an account via this link!
I'm as guilty as anyone for being excited to have a holiday off, but this Memorial Day I challenge all of you to remember that tomorrow is about more than just a day off, a BBQ or a day for the lake. It is a day to remember and honor those that paid the ultimate price while serving our Country. I'm proud of my friends, my family and the many men and women that serve our Country every day. I know that I'm not cut out for it and it takes a true, selfless person to dedicate their life to fight for our freedom. So, while you enjoy time with family and friends, while you shop those Memorial Day sales, I hope you take the time to remember and honor those that fought to award us these freedoms.
If you've been following me for the last month, you know that my boyfriend and I have been taking a social media marketing class at the library. It's been way more intense than I ever thought and we finish up next week. I've learned so much more than I thought I would, already being an avid social media user. The analytics that are available are just insane! While the class itself has been incredibly helpful, the library has been an amazing resource by itself. Libraries today are incredibly under-utilized, so if you haven't looked into the Gaston County Library or even the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Library to see what they have to offer, I highly suggest you do so. There are classes offered all the time, resources for businesses, computer rentals, workshops, children's programs, you name it.
I'm registered to take a photography workshop in June and the Librarian at Mountain Island helped me find a class to take to learn about graphic design. The best part - all three are FREE! Assuming we pass our social media class, we will receive a certificate from Boston University for FREE! This specific certificate was funded by the library and they don't pass on any cost to me. The strategic social media marketing certificate is positive for my resume, helpful in running our business and an asset in my blogging endeavors with HITC and it won't have cost me a dime! The graphic design class is from UC-Boulder and again - FREE! What I've learned is that you can take courses online, via the "audit version" and it won't cost you a penny! You won't get a degree and most of the time won't get a certificate, but you will learn something new, from home, completely online, for absolutely no cost. Want the certificate? Most of the courses I've seen offer a certified/verified version for $150-250. That's not terrible if you're looking for a part-time job and want a little bit of expertise!
So where do you find these classes? Well, I was skeptical of some, so I asked the Librarian! The course we are currently taking for social media is through edX. Graphic design I found via Coursera and I'm sure there are others out there. Now remember, NEVER put your credit card information in anywhere. If it asks for it, there is a chance at some point it won't be free. If you never put it in, you don't have to worry about missing fine print. Keep your eye out and if it says "free trial", shy away from that. You are welcome to get the certificates that are offered (I'm ALL about certificates, I'm kind of a nerd in that regard), but remember that most of the time you get the same or most of the same information in the audit version for free, so if it asks you if you want to upgrade or purchase the certificate, you CAN say no.
In my teenage years, I never would have envisioned a time where I would say "Mom, you are my best friend", but here we are. At 25, my mom is my very best friend. Things that I never thought I would want to share with my mom, she's the first one I call. The good, the bad, the ugly, my Mom is my go-to person. She's the kind of mom that everyone should have. She's kind, loving, and supportive, but she's not afraid to tell me when I'm wrong. Every daughter should have a mom that can be her best friend, but can also tell her like it is. We all need that honesty sometimes. My mom is THAT mom. She's the best mom. She sacrifices for me and for my brother, even with us both 'grown up' and on our own. Very few days go by that I don't talk to my mom.
I look back at all the times my mom said, "One day you'll see I'm right", and she was. She still is. She gives the best advice and even when I go against it, she supports me, and then comforts me when I was wrong and she was right. I regret all of the difficulty I caused her in my teenage years. I wish that I had better control over how difficult I was, or a time machine to go back and be kinder to her, or at least to tell her that in just five years we would be the best of friends.
So, this year I vow to not just call my mom, or text my mom, or even just visit my mom, but to make memories with my mom. To take trips with my mom. To take my mom on adventures. To give back to her just a fraction of what she has given to me, in my life. To show her in every way that I can that she's the best mom, that I love her and appreciate her and that I wouldn't trade her for anything or anyone.
Your mom sacrifices for you 365 days a year. Your mom loves you 365 days a year. Your mom thinks about you, wonders what you are doing, wonders how you are doing 365 days a year. Take the time to love your mom, to think about her, to ask how she's doing, to ask what she's been doing, to ask what you can do to help her, what you can do to make her week better, 365 days a year. It doesn't take much, in today's world. A text message, a phone call, an email. Regardless of your situation, tell her you love her and you're thankful for her and don't wait until Mother's Day to do it. Make sure she knows that you aren't just thinking about her because your iPhone told you to.
I love you, Mom. Yesterday, today, tomorrow and on Mother's Day.
