I just got back home today from a whole two weeks away. It was partly vacation and partly work. I left Florida and went to Alabama for half a week where I did an awesome shoot with my brother and his girlfriend. We hiked down to a waterfall, we didn't go all the way down to the bottom - I wouldn't have made the hike back up!
Chris came up the following week and he, GG and I went to visit my great friend and soul sister, Krissy, and her children. It was GG's first flight and he did SO well!! Not a single problem! He loved it! Check out my instagram or facebook to see pictures! There's way too many to add here!!! We had an amazing time and didn't want to leave. After returning Chris came back to Florida for work while GG and I went to Georgia for more photo shoots!

We try to vacation at my in-law's cabin every year. There's only been one year since our son, GG, has been alive that we haven't made it. Every year we take a picture sitting on the fire place. This year GG decided that he didn't want to sit on daddy's lap. Here is a collage of the pictures. GG at 3 months, 1 year, 3 years and the bottom was this week at 4 years old.
The cabin is on a mountain close to Waynesville and Maggie Valley North Carolina. It's secluded enough to enjoy the quiet sounds of nature and see fireflies dancing all around in the dark.
We always make sure we visit Cherokee, Bryson City and the Nantahala Outdoor Center - even when we aren't white water rafting. GG had a cold which caused his asthma to flare up so after that first day we didn't do a whole bunch. We had to keep him inside as much as possible. He was in bed a full hour before dark, so we missed out on the fireworks, but we still had a great 4th. Besides, I'll choose fireflies over fireworks every time!
This time, on our way back home Thursday, we tried something new. I found a kids museum in Columbia so we stopped for GG to stretch his legs and play. He had so much fun!
Happy fathers day to all the dads out there! To the natural dads. To the adoptive dads. To the birth dads, some of us wouldn't be what we are without you! To the foster dads, you do so much and I hope you know how very special you are! To the fur-baby dads, don't anyone tell you just being a fur-baby dad is any less special! To the step-dads, those that don't have to love someone else's child, but do anyway. To the dads who have lost a child.
We are so blessed to have you Chris! You are such a loving, compassionate, understanding and silly daddy. You carry so many of the traits that I've always admired in my own dad and I am so lucky to have you as my other half. I am also so thrilled that GG is growing up with such a wonderful, understanding, caring, loving, kind-hearted, down to earth yet overly dramatic dad. There are hundreds of reasons that I love you and even hundreds more as to why you're a great dad, so never forget that!!

This morning began like any other. We got out of bed, had breakfast (and coffee for me, of course). My son, GG, wanted to watch Dino Dan, I typically don't let him watch television so early in the day. I gave in so that I could finish crocheting a blanket for a fellow HITC/photographer friend's baby boy. I took a minute to run to the restroom, a few seconds later GG comes into the bathroom, and this my dear readers is when my day took a turn from normal....
"The styrofoam is gone." His head was tilted and something about the way he said this caused an icy fist to form around my stomach and pull it down. I think I already knew how this was going to play out.
"GG, what do you mean? Where is it?"
"In my ear." He says this as he starts to place a finger in his ear.
"DON'T. Don't touch." I say on the verge of flipping out. I finished washing my hands and told myself that I wouldn't panic. It couldn't be that bad. I mean, it had only been a few seconds...

vWhen I was about six I went on a trip to central Florida with my parents. While there we did several things, but what stayed in my mind was visiting Weeki Wachee and seeing the mermaids swim. I had already been dreaming of being a mermaid, but seeing those girls swimming as mermaids made me fall deeper in love with the idea. It was magical!
This past weekend we decided to do something in our state. We drove down to Rainbow River in Dunnellon and the guys went swimming in the spring. I tried, I got about waist deep, but the water was just too cold for me. GG swam so much that he was out quick later that evening! After their little swim we drove the remaining way to our hotel which was just five minutes south of Weeki Wachee. The next day we got up and went over extra early so that we could get in.
After almost an hour in line we made it through the gates! A lot has changed since I was there almost 30 years ago (of course). It saddens me that the state bought it out and turned part of the spring into a water park, BUT I am glad that it's still there and we can still get in to see it.
The mermaids are the best part. Seeing GG see the mermaids for the first time was even better. I'm pretty sure it was just as magical to him now as it was to me all those years ago.
After leaving we drove a little north to see some manatees.
Hello! I'm Diona. I am a wife and mother. You may notice I post a lot about motherhood, it's a huge part of who I am!
I love essential oils, Starbucks, hot tea, going to the zoo, being at the beach, traveling (any and everywhere), and having lengthy discussions - I'm a big time talker once you get me going.
I can see the beauty in a mud puddle. I love anything creative and artsy - crocheting, sewing, painting, drawing, graphic design and web design, you name it, I probably do it!
Aside from Housewives In The City I am also a full time photographer with a few other small jobs on the side.
