We’re super excited that our first charity spotlight is on the Children’s Auction. It’s an insanely cool way to help the children here locally in our area.
This volunteer run auction helps provide other local charities in the area with funds to provide aide and services to the children of the Lakes Region.
In its first year, the Auction made $2100. Now with the help of all of the Lakes Region, those numbers are being blown out of the water! Last year it was OVER $500,000!! Over the past 33 years, over $4 million dollars has been raised for local charities.
The Children’s Auction is held every year in Dec but throughout the year people and businesses all over the Lakes Region come together to help benefit the Children’s Auction. One of the biggest is the Pub Mania event hosted at Patrick’s pub each year. People from all over the Lakes Region can donate items that go up for auction.
How can you help? Get involved in the events, donate items to the auction, bid on items or volunteer your time.
To learn more about the Greater Lakes Region Children’s Auction, come on down to our Summer Kick Off Ladies Night Out Networking Event at Patrick’s Pub in Gilford. A representative from the Auction will be there to answer any questions and help you learn more about the Auction!

Yup. I know. Mother's Day JUST passed. But I like to surprise friends and family with gifts on days they aren't expecting it. It makes it feel a little more love vs the obligatory gift you have to give.
The other night I was bored, so I thought I'd search around the web and find some fun, whenever gifts to give.
Unique Activity tracker bands
A lot of us have some sort of activity tracker (I use an Apple Watch). But let's face it, the stock bands they have just aren't that pretty.
I've tried going to the store to get something cute for my Apple Watch, but they are all just so 'watchy'. OK I know that isn't a word, but I am sure you get what I mean.
When I got my daughter her Apple Watch, I'd wanted to find a band etc that made it look a little more like jewelry - but alas, no avail.
This past week I stumbled upon Simeon D Jewelry out of California. She's this CUTE little shop on Etsy that makes jewelry type activity tracker bands. Super exciting. Be sure to check out all the really amazing looking pieces.
She was also SUPER awesome and is offering our readers 15% off their purchases with code LRHW15
The succulent trend
I would totally surprise my friends with a cute item from this shop! RootBotanical!
With code LAKES you can save 10% as well.
Also - not going to lie, I say this to my daughter all the time so this box stuck out to me.
Measure your love
I find these mason jar measuring cups from Mason Jar Lifestyle insanely cute. I know I could see myself picking these up for a couple of friends (and PROBABLY myself included).
Visit the website https://masonjarlifestyle.com/ and use code LRH for 15% off!
How cute is this little gift set (also, can you tell I like shopping handmade items)? This would be especially great on days when your friend or sister (or heck you) just need a little pick me up.
They've got TONS of cute stuff in the Peace Organics shop, so be sure to check it out. And use code PEACE15 for 15% off anything in the shop!
Time for tea
I love tea, but have you ever seen anything so pretty?! The tea sets over at TeaBloom are great for a memorable gift as well as a gift you can enjoy together.
TeaBloom is an affiliate link - no extra cost to you.
I hope you enjoyed seeing some of my recent finds for cool, just because gifts.
I highly encourage you to take your own stroll and find some just because gifts.
Did you stay in town for Spring break?
This year we didn't go any where for Spring Break. Oh and guess what - it's actually starting to feel like Spring.
Aside from the day trips you can do, I've found some fun local events for both you and some family related events.
Hermit Woods Winery is hosting a Paint and Sip event tomorrow night from 6-8. Stacy Lucas (the Veggie Art girl) who owns Fig Tree Gallery in Ashland will be coming in to show you how to create a fun masterpiece.
I really love paint night events and paired with wine - well that's a win!

Yet AGAIN, the weather outside is frightful! More than likely if you're a mom like me and you have school aged kids, they are home for yet another snow day. Even if your kids aren't school aged, they still might get bored on a day like today.
So what can the kids do or you all do together to beat the snow day blues but still keep them learning?
1. Make them think they are getting some fun tablet or computer time.
Do your kids have a Dreambox or other web based app from the school they could practice their skills. No need for them to get rusty. I know today I'll have my daughter pop onto her iPad for a bit and do some of the learning based apps she has. The apps are usually fun (Monkey Preschool Lunchbox was another one when she was younger she'd play) and entertaining and make learning fun. Plus they think they are winning by getting screen time.
Bonus - this usually means you get some you time too.
2. Let's Bake!
Look up a fun recipe that you and the kids might enjoy. Have them help you look for the ingredients. Then have them help you bake it up. They'll learn about measurements, cooking skills and then have a great time eating their creations afterwards. Be sure to base their level of help to what you think they are capable of doing.
3. Learn responsibility
Crank up the tunes and get some cleaning done. Have a race to see who can pick up the most items in the living room and put them away. If they are younger, race them for putting the most toys away. Have them help with the mopping and make it a dance party. Do laundry but make it a 'basketball' game and shoot the clothes into the washer. Or wind up and play 'baseball' with the clothes into the dryer.
4. Engineer some fun
Build a fort with the kids (or if they are old enough - have them build their own). They'll need to think about ways to get the fort to stay up, create walls and more. Then afterwards they'll have a fun hideout to hang in.
5. Mold some fun
Grab the kids and the ingredients and have the kids make some homemade playdough. Skip to my Lou has a great easy recipe on her site to make the playdough with. Again, they'll learn all about measurements, chemistry (as the play dough forms) and then creativity when they can play with it all afterwards. You could even have them create the shape cards shapes from School Time Snippets.
6. Write a book
Have the kids get creative and write a book. Pick a topic and have them write the story and illustrate the book. Not only does it let their imaginations run wild, it helps them with grammar, English and more. Then get fun and act it out.
Whatever you choose to do, grab your coffee or tea (or maybe wine, depending on how many snow days you are already at or what time of day it is- no judging here) and let the kids get some fun in that also keeps them learning something.
What are some things you are doing to get thru yet another snow day?
Hello Lakes Region!
Housewives in the City has launched in the Lakes Region!
It’s going to be great for meeting new friends, discovering local businesses and restaurants, supporting local charities, and most importantly- a monthly Girls Night Out! You can see all the amazing events here!
My name is Liz Oswald and I’m so excited to be launching Housewives in the City for the Lakes Region of NH!
Originally from Arizona, my family and I moved up here roughly 8 years ago. I absolutely love the Lakes Region. We’re basically 2 hours from anything we want to do. Big city, camping, ocean, and more .
I am a mom of three (2 adult kids and a youngster). I’m social, a go getter, and love to inspire. I’m a crafter/DIY’er, I blog here for the Housewives in the City Lakes Region and about crafts and DIY projects, I’m a martial artist, wife, and mother.
I joined Housewives in the City as a social media and event coordinator for the Lakes Region to help bring a fun recurring event each month for the wives to get out to. As well as to share fun happenings, events, need to knows and more for our area.
By day you’ll find me at my play café Playdate in Gilford. Something I’ve dreamed of opening for years now. I’m also THAT person who orders the Green Tea Latte, half breve / half non-fat milk (yes, I know that makes NO sense) with a small shot of vanilla syrup. Hey – I know what I like.
Be sure to join me at one of our FABULOUS fun Girls Night Out events! You won’t want to miss it.
Be sure to join us on Instagram and Twitter @lakeregionwives
