I took my son on a fun break from a busy weekend to get our creative juices flowing this past Saturday. All A.C.Moore's, including the Rockville, MD location, host a "Kids Second Saturday Event" on Saturday's from 1-3pm. Parents can to bring their children by at any point during the two-hour event. The children are welcomed to use materials supplied by A.C. Moore to make a featured, seasonally-appropriate project and each kiddo gets to take home their own creation. Best yet, A.C. Moore craftologists are there, dedicated to providing instruction and help as needed. Believe it or not, this make-and-take crafting experience is FREE. A.C. Moore's objective is to introduce children to different artistic mediums and excite them about art.
This past Saturday, my 11-year old son designed a canvas drawstring bag. Each child received their own bag and then selected from a variety of vibrant fabric markers in all shades of the rainbow and neon colors as well. My son neatly crafted his bag, which he then filled with crafting goodies to give to his brother as a birthday present. As a parent, it was my pleasure experiencing the peaceful silence that naturally overtook the room while the children concentrated intently on adorning their prized masterpiece. The only limit to their project was each child's imagination!
The next Kids Second Saturday takes place June 11. June will be the last one until the program restarts again in September. No need to fret however, because Summer Fun Wednesdays begin June 29! *Please contact your local A.C. Moore for more details!
More about A.C. Moore:
A.C. Moore is a crafter's paradise! If you are artistic at heart, this store is a must. You might just want to do yourself a favor and pre-program the address into your GPS. The aisles are bright, cheery, well organized and bursting with products. I was impressed at the variety of product in each given category; from floral and paints to knitting and scrapbooking and "cupcaking" (what Isaac and I have always called the 'art of making cupcakes'!). I was mesmerized at how pristine, organized and well stocked the store was. It truly had something for everyone and at a very reasonable price. As if it can't get better than their robust offering of materials at low everyday prices, A.C. Moore also offers special ordering for bulk orders, military discounts, teacher discounts, amazing coupons, fundraisers for non-profit organizations, craft classes, featured projects online, attentive managers and staff and a rewards program! Let's just say that I found my new home away from home!
