A perfect indulgence of ooey gooey goodness for mom & kids… or for the kid at heart!
When I first laid my eyes upon it, I had no idea what type of dangerous love affair would be forever etched in my heart. The glimpse of bright pink, blue, purple and green caught my eye from the distance and persuaded me to come closer. A decadent plate of treats sat before me and I couldn’t resist the temptation. What was it? It clearly resembled that ooey gooey marshmallow goodness known to all as a Rice Krispy Treat.
Over the course of my 35 years, I’ve seen many renditions of the traditional Rice Krispy treat; including the addition of M&M’s, mini Hershey’s chocolate chips, peanut butter or even adding food coloring to tint the marshmallow. However, marshmallow treats made using Cap’n Crunch’s Crunch Berries was the ultimate game changer for me. It opened the door to all types of possibilities; such as Cookie Crisp, Trix, Fruit Loops, Apple Jacks and more! The only dilemma now, besides naming it, was deciding which one to make first.
I decided to go with the Cap’n Crunch’s Crunch Berries for the first round of my marshmallow-packed diet busters. After my targeted trip to the grocery, I stalked web page after web page, claiming to offer ‘The Best Rice Krispy Treat’ recipe. After wading through recipe after recipe, one equation emerged again and again: MORE MARSHMALLOW + MORE BUTTER = THEE most ooiest, gooiest treat! Eureka, I found it; a recipe for my very own “
Crunch Berry Treats”:
*Marshmallows – 5 cups
*Butter or Margarine – 4 TBSP
*Cap’n Crunch’s Crunch Berries – 6 cups
*Additional butter or Pam Cooking Spray for pan (helps with easy removal!)
*Melt butter over low heat in a large pot
*Add in marshmallows; stirring frequently until fully melted and combined with butter
*Remove from heat and stir in the cereal (of choice)
*Transfer to a buttered pan and press into shape using a buttered piece of wax paper
*Once cooled, cut into pieces
Wanna get fancy? Dip a popsicle stick into melted white chocolate and then poke the dipped end into the Crunch Berry Treat. Once the chocolate hardens, you now have a Crunch Berry Treat Pop! It's the PERFECT Spring/Easter treat!
Try it and let me know what you think OR tell me what you substituted for your Rice Krispies!
