Believe it or not, this was my first Disney On Ice show. My friends always hear me lamenting about the "happenings" my children get to experience that were unattainable luxuries for my family when I was at that same young age. However, with the change of times, the variety of entertainment options and the reasonable price of tickets to shows such as Disney On Ice, outings like this are so much more accessible than when "we" were young. I thought I would preface my review with the small detail that this was my first experience at a show like this so that you would understand that my feedback comes from my viewpoint as a first-time attendee.
The evening began with a VIP luau celebration of the premier showing of the "Dare To Dream" show, hosted by Feld Entertainment. We enjoyed some delicious food and treats and even received a few Disney On Ice swag like coloring books, masks and more. However, this was no substitute for treating the kiddos to a "special" Disney souvenir and some extra sugary treats during the show! We even had the opportunity to take some fun photos with props prior to the start of the show. I highly recommend that you make sure to snap some family and kiddo photos at the events so that you can remind your children of the fun that they had. I was very thankful that I took a few photos earlier on, because by the time that I sat down in my chair all I did was snap photo after photo of the performance; which you will find in the gallery below.

In addition to this being my first time seeing Disney On Ice, it was also a first time for my 4-year old son Sekou and my 11-year old niece Tajayla. Below you will find candid feedback from each of us on the premier showing of Disney On Ice's "Dare To Dream show".
Through the eyes of a 4 year old boy:
Sekou opted for a larger sized, plush Mickey Mouse for his "special" souvenir. He also enjoyed cotton candy with his cousin and loved the bonus of a gold crown with Mickey Mouse ears. Sekou knew about our impending visit to Disney On Ice about a week before the premier night (September 29), so I was constantly reminded about it and asked throughout the week if tomorrow was "the day". I wasn't sure how he would do given the cast of some classic characters that precede his existence on this Earth. However, he took in the ENTIRE show perched at the edge of his chair; eyes wide with excitement. He cheered extra loud when he saw his favorite character "Mickey Mouse" and was excited to also see Pluto, Donald and Minnie. It was truly a night of wonder for him that he couldn't wait to tell dad all about; even after a long drive back to Maryland. He's already making plans for his next visit! According to Sekou, "my favorite part is when Mickey and Minnie came out, even Goody and Donald." He also liked Maui the demigod "because hims fighting the bad crab".
What a perfect time to visit Auntie in Maryland!
Tajayla, my niece, was visiting us from Pennsylvania for the weekend and was surprised with her ticket to see Dare to Dream. It's not every day that she gets to see an amazing show full of Disney Princesses and heroes! Before the show, light-up Minnie Mouse ears spoke to her and subsequently became her "special" souvenir. Again, it was her first show also, so I had to make sure she had the perfect souvenir to take back home to PA. I think it was a success; as she has been wearing the ears ALL weekend! Tajayla was excited to be entertained by the wide array of Disney stars, but like Sekou she didn't really know what to expect either. It was fun to watch her, along with Sekou, their mouths open in awe, laughing during the comical scenes and waiting intensely to see what would happen next; story after story. Tajayla told me "I loved watching the characters dance and skate across the ice". It was difficult for her to choose a favorite character because she liked so many. She also liked the beginning of the show when the narrator and characters encouraged the audience to embrace healthy habits like exercising and playing. It was no shocker for me that she already requested that we make this an annual outing with auntie!

"Disney On Ice..." I thought to myself. I read the reviews and even frequented the website as I sought information to share on my blog during the ticket giveaway. Still, I wasn't really aware of what I was in store for at the show. The title "Dare to Dream" is something that any parent would appreciate for their children, but I will be honest that I didn't know if I would truly appreciate the show as much as I knew the kiddos would. I was more than pleasantly surprised with the show: the ambiance, stage decor and lighting, the skating skill and choreography, the beautiful costumes that adorned amazingly talented skaters, the creativity and overall the entire show. Each segment of the show featured a different Disney "story" which included a popular song or two from each one. Not only was the show captivating for adults and children alike, but the voices heard around the Fairfax Eaglebank Arena singing along to the lyrics were not just children. As a matter of fact, the lyrics of "Shiny" by Jemaine Clement's popular Moana song has been running through my brain since the show! I can't say I mind though, being that Moana was definitely at the very top of my list for FAVORITE parts of the show! While there were so many other amazing sets, the Moana piece really spoke to me, with the ambiance and lighting, the exact replica of Moana, Maui, and Moana's boat and the dazzling light show during the song "Shiny". It was truly an over-the-top, beautiful performance!
I have to say though that it was equally as fun watching all of the children show up in their favorite Princess and Disney-themed costumes (I even saw an Olaf or two!). Even my niece adoringly remarked about all of the little girls soaking up the evening in their favorite Disney costumes. It was adorable!
All-in-all, I definitely recommend visiting The Eaglebank Arena for the Disney On Ice presents Dare to Dream. It was my full intention to post my review ASAP so that you still have the opportunity to schedule a trip with your children to see their favorite Disney characters before the show ends on October 8. There is still time to buy your tickets for the rest of this week! Once you see the show, drop MOCO Housewives a note below and let us know how you enjoyed the show and let us know your favorite characters. I hope you love it as much as me and my little troop did!
