This week we were gifted with the opening of a new, incredibly adorable coffee shop in the up and coming part of town. Crema Brew opening it's doors to the public for the first time this morning for their soft opening and WOW! Everyone I spoke to said they were busy the minute they unlocked the door! So of course, I had to check it out for myself!
The building alone is beautiful and sits perfectly at the corner of an intersection that leads you into our town's historic district. Crema Brew has the atmosphere you wished every coffee shop had, so warm and inviting! I arrived just in time for lunch and gave the chicken salad a try, delish. But the one thing everyone was raving about were the cinnamon rolls (which I'm still kicking myself for not getting there before they sold out for the day!) All in all, 5 stars! This place is gorgeous, the staff is spectacular, food is superb, and awesome coffee. I'm looking forwarding to getting lots of work done in this new nook in the heart of New Bern!
Til next time, Brittany!
Happy Monday! I wanted to start the week off with sharing the AWESOME lineup of Featured Businesses for February's Girls Night Out event coming up this Wednesday! We're all looking forward to a successful event at Blackbeard's Triple Play with our new Guys Tell All Panel, Naturally Stoned by Jennifer Aiken as our Swag Bag Sponsor, the Cancer Services of Eastern North Carolina as our spotlight charity, AND having Seth Felder back as our DJ for the night! I look forward to seeing you all!
We started the year off by having Girls Night Out at City Stage New Bern, a local entertainment venue tucked away from the hustle and bustle of the rest of New Bern's Historical District. It was a great venue for all of us to spread out while we shopped, mingled, ate and enjoyed some live music! Our sponsor, Rankin & Fiume Orthodontics provided the best gym bag swag bags, stuffed with lots of ortho goodies, and our lovely vendors provided awesome giveaways for our raffle. Folks Journal, a local nonprofit publication here in New Bern, was our featured nonprofit for January and I'm so happy the ladies behind the journal were able to come out and enjoy the evening with us while sharing their magazine. All in all, January was a blast! Thank you to the ladies who came out in the rainy weather to have a good time!

It has been a few months since we were able to spoil ourselves with $5 jewelry that we LOVE here in New Bern, which was why I was so excited to have Ashlee join us at Girls Night Out. Paparazzi keeps their styles trendy at a price that is available and affordable for everyone. Thank goodness we had the space for her to setup her whole display, because this girl came ready! From the front door of the venue you could see her big pink stands of jewelry in the back and had no choice but to go find a piece you love! I loved Ashlee's energy throughout the evening and her bright smile to all the ladies who came to attend.

Rodan & Fields is one of the #1 skincare companies in the U.S., and let's face it, you don't become one of the best of best with products that don't work. January was Mandy's second event with us along with Bethany and Charmaine, and Winter was the absolute perfect time for her to be joining us! She is a product of the brand and she loves to share her own story with Rodan & Fields. It's easy to see why she loves to do what she does. With the weather going back and forth between freezing temps and muggy, rainy days, I love to hear Mandy's recommendations for a new Rodan & Fields skincare routine. I'm also looking forward to the opportunity for her to do mini facials at our upcoming events!

Hello Ladies! Let me know if you tried out last weeks recipe. My husband and I have been trying to stick with this healthy eating. So far he has lost 10 pounds since the first of the year.
This week's recipe will be Meatballs and Gravy.
Preheat oven to 450 degrees. Wash and dry all produce. Dice the potatoes and finely chop into ½ inch cubes. Peel and finely chop the onion. Peel and finely chop 1 of the garlic cloves, wrap the other 2 cloves in foil. Cut the broccoli florets off the stalk and then cut them into bite-sized pieces.
In a medium bowl, gently combine beef, half the panko, chopped garlic, 3 TBSP onion, ½ tsp salt and pepper. Mix and form into 1-inch balls. Place the meatballs and the garlic in the foil on one side of baking sheet. Toss broccoli with a drizzle of oil and place on the other side of the baking sheet. Add a pinch of salt and pepper to the broccoli. Bake until the meatballs all cooked through, broccoli is browned and tender, garlic is soft, about 15-20 minutes.
Place the potatoes in a medium pot with a pinch of salt and enough water to cover by 2 inches. Bring to a boil and cook until tender, about 10 minutes. Drain and then return the potatoes to the pot. Cover until you are ready to mash them.
Heat 1 TBSP of butter in a large pan over medium heat until melted. Add the remaining onion and a pinch of salt and pepper. Cook, stirring until browned and softened, about 8 -10 minutes. Add flour then continue to stir and cook until lightly browned, about 1 minute. Gradually stir in ¾ cups of water until fully blended. Stir in Beef stock and simmer until it thickens, about 1 minute. Season with salt and pepper to taste. Reduce heat to low.
Place roasted garlic from the foil onto a cutting board; mash with a fork. Add the garlic to the potatoes along with the sour cream and 2 TBSP of butter. Mash adding splashes of water if needed until you reach desired consistency. Season to taste with salt and pepper.
Add meatballs to the gravy pan and stir until coated with gravy.
Then plate the mashed potatoes and broccoli and put the meat balls on top with gravy.
Let us know if you try the recipe and how you like it.

Are you ladies ready to start 2019?
We are getting all geared up for 2019. Our first Girls Night Out of the year will be at City Stage. We are so excited to have you all of you join us again for another amazing month! After all the hustle and bustle of the holidays and the start of the New Year, it's girl time! Let's start January off with some good friends, good drinks, good food, shopping and lots of laughter!
We are excited to bring you Trades of Hope this month with Bethany Kenyon! Not familiar with Trades of Hope? Here's the story behind this great company and why they continue to do what they do:
Website | Facebook
“So many women live in poverty, not because they lack abilities, but because they lack opportunity. We started Trades of Hope to give women that opportunity for a better life. Each woman has a story, and with Trades of Hope's help, their story has changed from pain and struggle to a story of hope!
We work with the artisans themselves and organizations that are helping women in difficult circumstances. Some women have been rescued from sex slavery. Others are raising handicapped children alone. Some are in war torn countries and others have HIV/AIDS and leprosy. These women have never had the chances we've had, yet they are just like us in so many ways. They love their families and hope and dream of a better life for them.
We are helping by marketing their products through the home party model, so they can put food on their table, a roof over their head, get medical care and an education for their children. We want to tell their stories to the world! We have a heart for ministry and business, and through this we have started separate successful non-profit organizations and businesses. Together, we have a combined 30 years of experience. This has given us the tools and drive we need to help women and make an impact on the world! As mothers and daughters, we also wanted to partner together to help create a beautiful world for the next generation."
3GenFashion will also be joining us this month. If you haven’t heard about this family owned company here is a little background...
They are three generations of women, each with different styles, sizing, age, height, etc. They are real women that are here to show you what fashion looks like, no matter what your age or weight.
They will show you what the same style of clothing looks like on: Sue, the grandmother and mother, her true age is 74, she, like many women of her age, has developed the “hump” on her back due to osteoporosis, so the clothing will look and fit differently on her compared to her daughter and mother, Michele, who just turned 47 and is plus size, and her daughter, Jessica, who is taller and 27.
All three of these women have one major thing in common-they love the Piphany clothing brand and the way it looks and feels on them and they want to help their customers to feel the same way.

Christy Moore Foreman will also be joining us with Scentsy this month! We love all their scents and we are sure you will too - if you don't have a Scentsy lady already, Christy is your girl!

Here is a blog I was reading this morning that I thought was worth sharing. When my best friend dropped me, I felt devastated.
Its was written by :Harriet Lerner Ph.D.The Dance of Connection
A greeting card depicts a young woman telling her female friend, "I'll always be there for you." Inside the card is the postscript, "unless, of course, I have a date."
The message takes me back to my college days when my friends and I put more real energy into our discussions about men than into all other subjects combined. But even back then, the stereotype didn't hold water. Schmoozing with my friends is what sustained and nourished me, as it does now.
Friendship rarely becomes a nest of extreme pathology. I've yet to receive a letter that says: "Dear Harriet: A close friend insults and degrades me, and sometimes hits me. I love her and I don't know what to do." If a friend behaves terribly or evokes awful feelings, we don't just dream of escape—we get out.
But friendship is not without it's wrenching moments. Probably everyone has felt hurt or deeply disappointed or betrayed by a friend at some time, or dismayed to recognize mean-spirited feelings of one's own.
When I was sixteen my best friend dropped me for another girl because I wasn't "deep" enough for her. I felt devastated, my confidence crushed.
A boy might reject me because I wasn't cool enough, or pretty enough, or "his type." But this girl was my soul mate. When she dropped me for another best friend (whom I imagined to be far more complex and interesting than I was) the injury and loss were immense.
What a relief to be grown up, to longer take rejection so personally and to have best friends instead of one best friend. I treasure my friends, I count on them, I call them terms of endearment like "sweetums" and "honey-bunny." Sometimes I get judgmental. But when my own self-esteem is intact, I am simply amazed by who they are, their limitations and vulnerabilities only adding to my appreciation of their uniqueness.
I resonate with the words of Anais Nin, "Each friend represents a world in us."
Here's my advice about friendship:
1 Move toward having a number of "best friends" as well as friends who are more peripheral than others but who still count.
Each friend contributes something unique in the way of wisdom, support, and just plain good times. Having a community of friends will help you to not overreact to the limitations of any one friend. When we depend on one person to meet all of our needs, that person can't help but disappoint us.
2. Understand that friendship will evoke (and can survive) feelings of anger, envy, competition, and the entire range of emotions that make us human.
Indeed, our friendships suffer not from these "unacceptable feelings," but from the denial of them. For example, if you're not in touch with the fact that your friend is suddenly getting lots of money and recognition for her work, you risk acting out by ignoring or devaluing her work. (This doesn't mean you can't keep your feelings to yourself, when appropriate).
Despite the difficult challenges of friendship, Novelist Alice Adams puts it most succinctly: "I think women know how to be friends. That's what saves our lives."
We are so excited to introduce Mandy Brady to our ladies. Mandy is a Rodan & Fields consultant who will be joining us at The Brown Pelican on 12/12/18 in New Bern to show you her products.
I am sure by now you have heard about the Rodan and Fields skin care line. Both men and women are going crazy over it. Fall in love with your skin again. Get that clear young-looking skin back. Mandy will be happy to help you.
