I don't know about you guys, but I must have missed the memo on where to sign up for the parallel parking classes. Turns out, it's kinda hard to do.
Whenever I have to drive downtown, in the back of my mind, I am asking myself, "Will I have to parallel park"? Of course, I can't parallel park. I'm too afraid to try with all the cars behind me and the people that will laugh if I drive over the curb. Think about the danger I could cause!
Anyways, I did some research and found a simple guide to help you parallel park. I will try the steps here this weekend, maybe they will help you too.
The Guide: Courtesy of http://www.roadandtrack.com
1. Pull alongside the car ahead of the space you want. Align your rear axle with that car's bumper. Turn the wheel toward the curb at full lock.
2. Back up until the center of your inside rear tire aligns with the streetside edge of the forward car. Straighten wheel, continue to reverse.
3. When your outside tire aligns with that same edge, turn the wheel the other way.
4. If all went according to plan, you're in the space, bodywork intact. Get out and admire your work.
What do you all think?
I'm going to give these steps a try this weekend and see if I can conquer one of my greatest fears in life. Yes. It really is.
Until next time!
