I always try to learn and play with the technology in the new vehicles that I test drive -- and I have to say, the Hyundai had some pretty neat tech components that I could get used to in a daily driver.
So what did I love?
- The 360 degree camera. I have never claimed to be the best when it comes to backing up or parking. And with tight spaces at the mall or in the grocery store parking lot, I found myself relying on the 360 degree camera quite a bit. Of course, you always want to manually check your surroundings as well, but it was a nice feature when I was trying to line up evenly between the parking spots.
- The audio interface and ability to easily sync with my iPhone/Bluetooth. Sometimes, I struggle to connect and pair my devices when I get a new car to test out -- and I did so with ease in the Hyundai. Also, I was able to quickly figure out the voice commands with no issues.
- And my number 1 must-have? Not just heated seats --- but cooled seats. When you're rocking black leather during the oppressive Virginia summers, seat coolers are an absolute MUST. If you're wearing a sundress, your thighs will thank you.

For years, old wood carver Mr. Meacham (Robert Redford) has delighted local children with his tales of the fierce dragon that resides deep in the woods of the Pacific Northwest. To his daughter, Grace (Bryce Dallas Howard), who works as a forest ranger, these stories are little more than tall tales…until she meets Pete (Oakes Fegley). Pete is a mysterious 10-year-old with no family and no home who claims to live in the woods with a giant, green dragon named Elliott. And from Pete’s descriptions, Elliott seems remarkably similar to the dragon from Mr. Meacham’s stories. With the help of Natalie (Oona Laurence), an 11-year-old girl whose father Jack (Wes Bentley) owns the local lumber mill, Grace sets out to determine where Pete came from, where he belongs, and the truth about this dragon. Disney’s “Pete’s Dragon” opens in U.S. theaters on August 12, 2016.

My friend Kristen, who runs our Charlotte blog, was in town with her family to do the DC tourist attractions - so we met with her and her family for dinner. With a new chef in the kitchen, I was excited to sample the menu and see what they had to offer.
It's a stunning setting when you walk in. The main dining room has maintained many of the original features from 1864 including Italian Carrera marble fireplaces, ten-foot gilded mirrors, and floor to ceiling windows.
And the food? It was incredible. Our highlights from the night were the crab fondue, Caprese salad, crab cakes, and the NY strip steak. I have to admit, the fresh pesto on top of my Caprese might have been the best part of my night.
We enjoyed experiencing the modern American cuisine with the elegant 1864 setting. If you're looking for family-friendly, I will warn you -- there is no kids menu. I would definitely come back again, but this time with no kiddos in tow!

It’s the summer in DC: our work days are shorter, the weather is warmer, and if that isn’t enough motivation to finally let loose on the weekends, we don’t know what is. If you don't have any plans yet, we’ve rounded up the best ways to drop the boring routine and upgrade to the weekend you know you deserve. And don’t worry if you’re picky about how you like to spend your free time -- we’ve created the guide with options every type of person: from spa junkies to boat bums, this list has got you covered. Check it out below!
1. For the wild card in any friend group
It’s a Friday night, and you want to let loose. Well, we have everything you need for a crazy night out. First, check out famous comedian Tony Roberts, performing at DC Improv. Check out some of his past work here. Afterwards, hit up a rooftop bar for some drinks with a view. Plus, we live here, so do we really get to be tourists that often? Now, with drinks at the POV lounge, you can sip on vodka sodas while relaxing at the perfect place while having an amazing view of the monuments. If you’re still in the mood to party, head to the 9:30 Club for their Drop Electric & Tone Night. Doors open at 8:00 PM -- get ready to get electric.
2. When bottomless brunch is music to your ears, but you hate waiting for a reservation
Finding the best place to brunch with your friends during the warmer weekends can be tough. Between dealing with lines out the door and finding a place you haven't already tried -- the struggle of been there, done that. We’re already over it. Thankfully, we figured out a way to kill the brunch game in a new, exciting way...why not get out on a boat for the day? Before you say, wait a second, this seems really complicated -- trust us, it’s really not. Boatbound, like an Airbnb for boats, allows you to rent a boat from a local and split the cost with your friends so it doesn’t break the bank. Instead of waiting for your reservation, you can rent everything from a luxury yacht to a powerboat. The best part: you don’t have to have a boating license. Captain optional, so the mimosas can stay bottomless.
3. If you love the spa, but hate the cost...
It’s practically an unwritten rule at this point that Saturdays are for the girls. With all the stress of the week, our skin is in dire need of some R&R. We have the perfect plan to help you set up the perfect at-home spa day so that you can detox, rejuvenate, repeat, all day long.
Firstly, let’s just establish the cardinal rule: baths are highly underrated. Light some candles, dim the lights, and grab a glass or wine or a good book. And, not only can you soak up all the soothing warmth and moisture your body needs, but you can exfoliate and add essential oils or bath bombs to get more out of it. We recommend Fig + Yarrow Pink Love Salts for their ability to relieve sore muscles and the fact that they are made only using natural botanicals and earth elements. You’re guaranteed to leave the bath with supple skin and a smile on your face. Afterwards, try a skin mask or two. Charcoal is told to suck out all the buildup in your pores, whereas snail essence has been shown to have restorative properties, as well as improve plumpness and youth. We recommend the ORIGINS Clear Improvement Active Charcoal Mask (a fan favorite) and the It’s Skin Prestige D'escargot Sheet Mask. When all is said and done, wrap yourself up in a fluffy, warm towel using a towel warmer. We promise, it’s the little luxuries in an at-home spa day that make it feel like you’re really treating yourself. Lifehack: If you’re with your friend, put on some bathing suits and place towels under the crack in the closed door. If you run the bath, and then turn on the shower, it will seem like a steam room.
4. Get away for the weekend at Homestead Preserve.
If you can’t beat the DC humidity, don’t worry -- we understand the struggle. That’s why we recommend getting out of the city with your girls and heading to Homestead Preserve, VA. For nature lovers everywhere, this is the perfect stateside destination to escape to. With tons of activities and things to see, your weekend can be entirely outdoor or indoor focused. We recommend you stay at the River Farm home, because of its private access to The Jackson River. It also comes complete with a fire-pit, swimming-hole, family garden, horse stables, and much more. It sleeps 10, so grab your girlfriends for the sweetest of escape. To help plan your vacation, we’ve included a few things to keep you entertained.
