True Life: I'm eating my lunch from a 3 quart mixing bowl while driving. Can someone please add three hours to my day? and please come unload my dishwasher so that I can fill it with cereal bowls.
Last weekend, the weather was BEAUTIFUL and Saturday was a perfect night to visit National Harbor for dinner and drinks al fresco! We set up a ride to National Harbor via Reston Limousine and arrived a little early. Our dinner reservation was at 6:30, so we sat near the outdoor open bar area and fire pit at Redstone Grill and had a drink before heading over to McCormick's for dinner.
At McCormick and Schmick's we weren't let down. There's nothing better than sitting outdoors next to fresh water and enjoying the beautiful breeze while having drinks and dinner. Our waiter had many recommendations - so of course, we tried them! Starting with the appetizers and margaritas -- all the way to the main course entrees (steak, lobster and crab legs!). We were way too full to take on his recommendation for dessert... will have to save that for my next visit!
After dinner, we had tickets at Bobby McKey's Dueling Piano Bar. If you're never been to Bobby McKeys, let me know and I will go with you! We had the absolute best time EVER! This is more than a bar - it's an entire night of hilarious entertainment + amazing drinks! The tickets sell out - so book early and make sure you reserve your spot if you want to have a seat. I would recommend a table if you have a large party -- but we were very happy with balcony seats on the second level overlooking all of the entertainment.
You can follow all the fun with the hashtag #nationalharbor on Instagram and Twitter! Special thanks to National Harbor for inviting us out for the night!
I finally took the time to go get my headshots updated! I love how the photos turned out - but I need help picking one for my LinkedIn profile. Which is better - orange or blue? Short premise--retired widower (Robert De Niro) bored with retirement after years of running a successful business applies (and is accepted) to an internship at a fashion website owned by a young, driven, successful businesswoman (Anne Hathaway). The movie seemed like a combination of Disney/Pixar's "Up" and "Devil Wears Prada" with a lit bit of "Princess Diaries" thrown in for good measure. It is a thoroughly enjoyable mix of funny and sentiment that had me consistently laughing from start to finish.
While I couldn't necessarily relate to the story of the young, driven businesswoman and mother, I definitely could relate to a number of elements and themes touched upon by the movie that I'm sure other men my age would also find relate-able. For example, the classic retired parents that struggle to fill their time post-retirement while struggling with things like using technology that we younger men consider pretty basic. When I saw Robert De Niro struggle with a laptop I couldn't help but think of the countless calls I've had with my parents trying to help troubleshoot basic technical issues. Also, seeing as how I'm one-half of a couple looking towards a bright future together, I can appreciate the challenges that I'll face like (God-willing) balancing child-rearing responsibilities, work, and household chores all while making time in our busy days to make each other feel special. It's themes like these (among others) that make the movie innately relate-able and enjoyable. De Niro and Hathaway play well off each other while selling the movie and drawing the viewer into their trials and tribulations. These issues range from minor quibbles, such as what to do with an overabundance of throw pillows, to more serious relationship troubles.
This movie probably isn't appropriate for very young children (it has a PG-13 rating although there's nothing too risque but kids might get a little bored), but it will make for a great date-night movie. The ladies will appreciate the "girl power" message and female perspective while the men will appreciate the humor. Maybe the men will even be inspired by Mr. De Niro to be suit-wearing classic gentlemen themselves and start carrying handkerchiefs in their pockets in case the special lady in their life needs one. I recommend checking out "The Intern" as I think you'll be in for a good time. In theaters today!

On Sunday night we were invited to be a guest of Chevrolet to visit National Harbor for dinner, a ride on the Capital Wheel, and VIP seating for Monsters Inc on the plaza! It was a really cute event. Chevy had their cars lined up with the tailgates facing the movie screen so kids could hang out in the trunks or truck beds (stuffed with pillows and blankets) and catch the show. It was perfect weather for a perfect night!
This morning I popped into the grand opening for the brand new Soft Surroundings store at Fairfax Corner. It was GORGEOUS! Basically, the store is a giant Pinterest board and you could spend hours checking out all of the sections. If I were you, I would go into this store just for home décor inspiration in addition to a great selection of clothes (lots of fall/winter tunics for leggings!) and a fresh beauty bar with great cosmetics.
I met with the founder, Robin Sheldon, who once lived in Middleburg. She's super excited to bring her brand to Northern Virginia and Fairfax Corner is a perfect fit!
Stop by and check it out if you have time!
I was invited downtown for an amazing dinner with Google Express (Google's same-day delivery service) and some of my favorite blogger friends! The dinner was hosted by Naomi Davis of Love Taza at The Jefferson Hotel.
Google Express is trying to make live simple - not only for moms - but for everyone! It's amazing -- you can download the app, order what you need (from Costco, Staples, Toys R Us, Giant, etc) and have it delivered to your home the same day. I actually ordered Brennan's school supplies this year via Google Express.
Imagine those Friday nights when you dread having a birthday party the next morning and needing a gift - hit up the app and you'll have something from Toys R Us at your doorstep! There are special promos right now for FREE delivery and fees waived, too. I'm hooked!
Hi! my name is Andrea and I'm a not-so-average Northern Virginia blogger, mom, and transplant from the Midwest. I host Girls Night Out events, meet ups, and write about events and my adventures in the DC area. I love to travel, brunch, and drink wine with my neighbors! I'm known to live on the wild side and order Venti iced double shots at 5pm.
