On Friday night, we were invited over to the new JC Penney at Springfield Town Center to check out their holiday pop-up Virtual Reality experience. This winter, JC Penney is bringing friends to the "North Pole" through a virtual reality holiday experience on Santa's Flight. I let B take a ride on Santa's sleigh while wearing the Oculus headset - he was able to visit Santa's workshop and interact with the elves, reindeer, snowmen, and an arctic yeti!
B said he saw snowballs coming at him, he dodged flying candy canes while cold air blew on him for a "real" experience.
Once he was inside the Santa experience, he was asked to pick between several winter-themed doors with a present behind it. B picked door three and one of the characters gave B a wrapped present! While most virtual reality experiences are about the storytelling, Santa's Gift Ride offers a true payout - the participants receive the same gifts in real life that they unlock on Santa's ride! B walked away with a bonus coupon to shop inside the JC Penney store.
The gifts behind the doors can really add up too -- a lady in front of us walked away with a $100 gift card! Not only does the rider win, the audience can win as well as special deal coupons are passed out depending on what door the rider selects.
The virtual reality experience is exclusively occurring inside malls, right outside of the JC Penney store, at Springfield Town Center. It will be live every day until Christmas Eve. There's no fee to hop on Santa's Gift Flight!
