Describe yourself in three words:
Generous. Laid back/easy going (probably to a fault). Most importantly, I’m honest. Especially honest when it comes to denim. No one walks out of the Denim Bar without the perfect fitting jean. I'd rather not sell anyone anything unless it is exactly right.
What do you consider your greatest professional achievement?
Greatest professional achievement was starting a business from scratch. Coming up with the concept and putting it into motion was so exciting - and also nerve racking.
How does your company stay connected through social media
We are connected on Facebook, twitter, tumblr, send email blasts.
What profession other than yours would you like to attempt?
I'd like to fix up and flip older homes that are in need of some TLC!
How do you maintain a work/life balance?
I have a very supportive husband and two kids. My sister runs the Denim Bar with me and I couldn't ask for a better partner. Unfortunately, she is moving to CA in June and I'll miss her terribly. I rely on my staff to handle business when I'm not in the shop. I have my phone with me at all times so staff can call with any questions. I'm in the store Monday – Friday. My weekends are spent with my kids and husband. He works long hours during the week, so Saturday and Sunday are reserved for us.
What website do you visit every day?
I check out www.netaporter.com pretty much every day.
What is the first thing you think of when you wake up in the morning?
I think about my kids first thing in the morning. Hoping they slept well and what I need to do to help start them on their day. Then I think about what I have to do for the day.
What book/magazine do you casually put out on your coffee table to impress visitors?
Veranda magazine is always on my coffee table. I have other interior design books as well.
What is your favorite spot to visit in Northern Virginia?
Being out on the Potomac River on our boat in the summer with family and friends!
What is your goal for retirement?
The retail business has had its share of ups and downs over the last several years. My goal for retirement is to hopefully sell my business and go out on a high note. Leave behind a success!
Do you have any advice for women who would like to start their own company?
If you are thinking about it - do it. It is intimidating and scary at first, but don't let that stop you. I always I wanted to work for myself and have my own business. It hasn't always been an easy road the over the last 7 years, but it has been worth it.

Hi! my name is Andrea and I'm a not-so-average Northern Virginia blogger, mom, and transplant from the Midwest. I host Girls Night Out events, meet ups, and write about events and my adventures in the DC area. I love to travel, brunch, and drink wine with my neighbors! I'm known to live on the wild side and order Venti iced double shots at 5pm.
