Describe yourself in three words:
Passionate. Present. Persevering
What do you consider your greatest professional achievement?
I feel like my greatest professional achievement happens when someone tells me that my stories, my videos, my retreats moved them, changed them, shifted a belief in themselves, helped solve a suffering I work with families with addiction a lot inside and outside of my work. They are a silent mass. When I touch something or help something heal there, I feel I’ve done my part to serve a greater good.
What are your professional goals for the next six months?
My dream for the next six months:
1. To take 14 women on retreat in Mexico.
2. To be invited to speak at big events.
3. To hold heart opening weekend retreats locally.
4. To keep the Our Love Rising Journal flowing.
How does your company stay connected through social media?
What profession other than yours would you like to attempt?
Rockstar. It might be too late for that though and I'd need a voice coach. I’d love to connect with a crowd that way.
How do you maintain a work/life balance?
Presence and Practices. I try to give my full attention to the moment I am in. I have practices that create & help maintain connection and calm. I take time every morning to connect with myself and my spirituality. That helps me from getting in overwhelm. I don’t believe in multi tasking so I am present for people and my work. I do yoga and Pilates regularly. I listen to my body. I eat really well, I rest when I need it, I drink a lot of water. I connect with my inner guidance through nature and meditation. Lastly, I have boundaries around work and screen time. I don’t get on my screens until after my kids go to school in the morning and shut them down when they come home from school for a few hours or for the night so that I am present.
What websites do you visit every day?
My own. www.ourloverising.com.
Facebook, Instagram, Medium.
I check out Undeniable Boutique on Facebook to see if there is something that strikes my fancy.
What are your favorite people/places/things in Northern Virginia?
I adore coffee/tea/lunch/cupcakes with people, especially my kids, connecting with nature and live music, dancing and shows.
I also love yoga dates with friends. Yoga at WheelhouseMIndBody Studio or Pilates at Studio BE Pilates Cupcakes & coffee/tea at Cupcaked in Clifton.
Burke Lake when I need to officially disconnect.
True Food at Mosaic. Wolftrap for fun music, dancing and shows.
What is your goal for retirement?
I figure I have a long time to do some really good work in the world before that day comes. I guess when I retire I hope I can just dance and be silly with the people I love.
Do you have any advice for women who would like to start their own company?
Just do it.
Even when it feels hard. Even when people tell you not to or tell you it will be too hard. Even when its exhausting. Find the thing you love about it and do it for that. Delegate out the tasks that you hate or aren’t all that good at. Get to know your inner guide really well and you’ll always honor your true calls and be able to handle anything that rises up. Take really good care of yourself first, then take care of everything else. The healthier you are, the better able you are to represent your company, your work and yourself. Value yourself. Be Brave. Be Committed. Be Devoted. Allow for your missteps and your failures and keep course correcting. The path won’t always be clear, that’s when you take time to get really still and listen to your heart and your gut.
Shelly's last thought: "Share your stories. Stories work like medicine, are inspiration for others, and connect us to each other. Thank you for the opportunity to share my story and offer wisdom gained on the journey to others who are considering entrepreneurship. I believe extreme faith is the secret to a successful, happy life and only you get to define what “successful and happy” feel like."
