Whenever we walk through Fair Oaks Mall at this time of year, my son is always pointing out the big red dragons that look like they're floating from the ceiling. If you're looking for a family adventure or eager to learn about another culture, I definitely recommend that you check out the celebration of Lunar New Year at Fair Oaks Mall. The celebration showcases traditional Chinese dragon dances, music, Chinese knotting, calligraphy, painting, martial arts, arts and crafts for children -- and of course, the special lantern festival!
Mark your calendars for Saturday, February 6th and Sunday, February 7th as Fair Oaks Mall hosts its 13th annual Lunar New Year Festival and ushers in the Year of the Monkey. This year's event is presented by the Washington Hai Hua Community Center and features free, family-friendly performances, ceremonies and exhibitions each day in the Grand Court from 1-5pm. More than 200 performers representing numerous countries and regions, including China, India, Indonesia, Japan, Korea, Malaysia, Philippines, Polynesia, Tibet, Thailand, Turkey and Vietnam will participate. Hi! my name is Andrea and I'm a not-so-average Northern Virginia blogger, mom, and transplant from the Midwest. I host Girls Night Out events, meet ups, and write about events and my adventures in the DC area. I love to travel, brunch, and drink wine with my neighbors! I'm known to live on the wild side and order Venti iced double shots at 5pm.
