While I like to focus on "her" -- I will often come across a spotlight-worthy business in Northern Virginia that are aimed at taking care of "him" -- and this one might just benefit "her" too! Obsidian Men’s Health is a new, concierge medical practice the focuses on issues related to men’s sexual function. Located in Tyson’s Corner, Obsidian has created a private, luxurious spa-like setting where men and their partners can feel comfortable enough to discuss sexual-health issues with board certified urologists who will both listen to their concerns and take a comprehensive medical approach to solving their problems. I had a chance to chat with the Obsidian team and ask three quick questions:
What is “concierge service”, exactly?
"Concierge service means that at Obsidian Men’s Health we treat you like a valued client as opposed to a patient. That seems like a semantic difference, but it really isn’t. You probably spent 10-15 minutes at the most with your doctor the last time you saw them. That’s if you are lucky, the average time physicians spend in direct contact with their patients is around eight minutes. The practice of medicine has been turned into the equivalent of going to a fast food restaurant. It doesn’t have to be like that.
Urologists Drs. Shane Geib and Marc Richman (and their physician wives) decided to do something about this. At Obsidian, you’ll warmly greeted. You’ll be offered a beverage and snack during your very short (no more than a few minutes) wait time. Most importantly, the bulk of your time at Obsidian Men’s Health will be spent not in a waiting room, or waiting in an exam room, but with the doctors themselves. Our clients spend an average of fifty minutes with our physicians, not counting follow up phone calls and emails.
That’s the concierge difference, it’s turning the experience of going to the doctor from a fast food hamburger slung at you over the counter into a five star, fine dining affair."
Fifty minutes? That is a lot of time.
"Well, we are dealing with complex issues. One size doesn’t fit all and this applies to medical treatment as well. We want to really understand our clients’ issues so we can tailor the treatment specifically to them. What’s more,
we are dealing with issues that men and their partners, and we encourage partners to attend, might not feel completely comfortable discussing. We want to make sure that all of your questions answered and just as importantly, you were relaxed and comfortable enough to ask the questions you wanted to ask."
What does Obsidian specialize in?
"As urologists, we narrowed our focus on the sexual function of men. We can address all forms of erectile dysfunction, hormone replacement/low testosterone therapy for men, and Peyronie’s Disease. A popular service is our No Needle, No Scalpel vasectomies performed in office. Men enjoy the extra steps we take in education,
preparation and recovery that you do not get in a surgery center.
We also offer, and we feel like this is very important, Sexual Health Optimization in which we help men and their partners achieve peak performance safely and effectively. Just because something is technically functioning doesn’t necessarily mean it is working at a level that satisfies everyone involved.
We can help make everyone happier."
