This weekend a few of my girlfriends and I continued my 31st birthday celebration and headed into Tampa for the Florida State Fair. I had not been to a fair since probably 2012 when I was still living in Virginia, so I was pretty excited to see what the Florida State Fair had to offer.
First of all, this is probably the BIGGEST fair I have EVER been to. The amount of food, vendors, rides, and things to see was insane. I had never been to a fair that had vendor booths for local vendors to sell their items. Nor one that had artwork by local students up on display. The food ranged from your typical fair food (cotton candy, turkey legs, fried twinkies, and funnel cakes) to fresh fruit, edible cookie dough (fried too!), BBQ, gyros, and so much more! It was honestly hard to decide on what to eat because everything looked and smelled SO yummy. My friends and I ended up with cotton candy, a gyro, edible cookie dough, fried cookie dough, chili cheese fries, funnel cake, and an arepa with cheese. I wish we could have tried more, but we were stuffed.
The fair also brought in animals that I have never seen at a fair before - giraffes, alpacas, zebras, camels, Budweiser clydesdales, and bears! It was fun watching people get up close and personal with those friendly and always hungry giraffes. The camels were some of the coolest camels I’ve ever seen. I’ve never seen two humped camels nor have I seen ones that are so furry - they are super cute. I think my favorite though is between the alpaca and the bear. I, like many, have recently developed a love for llamas and alpacas, and the bear was SO chubby I just wanted to give it a big bear hug.
My friends and I had the unlimited ride wristband (weekends $35) and let me tell you, I highly recommend it. We had no problem walking right on so many rides and attractions. No need to figure out tickets or search in my purse, we just walked right up and got right on. There were multiple ferris wheels, but the best was the largest one right near the potato sack slide. You get an amazing view of the whole fair. The slide next to it was a ton of fun, but I’ll admit, I freaked out for a hot second. I survived though and immediately got myself a fresh squeezed lemonade - YUM! Some other rides we rode were the gondolas that take you from different parts of the fair, bumper cars, and many of the fun houses. There are TONS of rides for all you daredevils that like to spin too.
So what did I think of my first visit to the Florida State Fair in Tampa? I’d say it was pretty awesome and I would gladly go back! I was there for many hours and still feel like I didn’t see everything. If you’ve been wondering if it’s worth it, I say YES! Make your way to the Florida State Fair before it’s gone!
The fair is running until 2/18; to learn more about what to expect at the fair, be sure to check out my earlier post here.

Cirque du Soleil Adds Three Weeks to the Orlando Engagement of its Breathtaking and Heart-warming Production, LUZIA!
Performances now scheduled from March 7 to April 21, 2019
Under the white-and-gold Big Top at The Florida Mall
Due to popular demand, Cirque du Soleil is excited to be adding three weeks of performances (April 1 – 21, 2019) to the previously-announced Orlando engagement of its delightfully-imaginative and visually-stunning production LUZIA, a waking dream of Mexico. With its new dates of March 7 to April 21, 2019, audiences are invited to a redesigned white-and-gold Big Top at The Florida Mall to escape to an imaginary Mexico – a sumptuous world suspended somewhere between dreams and reality.
“LUZIA(…) is superb” The Chicago Tribune
“Dazzle(s) the eye with luminous spectacle and gasp-worthy, derring-do.” Bay Area News Group
In a series of grand visual surprises and breathtaking acrobatic performances, LUZIA takes audiences on a surrealistic journey filled with wonders, playfulness and striking artistry. Smoothly passing from an old movie set to the ocean to a smoky dance hall or an arid desert, LUZIA cleverly brings to the stage multiple places, faces and sounds of Mexico taken from both tradition and modernity. Rich in awe-inspiring moments, LUZIA enchants by incorporating rain into acrobatic and artistic scenes – a first for a Cirque du Soleil touring production.
The Big Top Experience for the FIRST TIME in Orlando

The overall excitement of going to the circus, the otherworldly atmosphere of the Big Top, as well as its intimate setting elevate the Cirque du Soleil experience. More about LUZIA – A waking dream of Mexico
Written and directed by Daniele Finzi Pasca, in association with Brigitte Poupart, LUZIA takes you to an imaginary Mexico, like in a waking dream, where light (“luz” in Spanish) quenches the spirit and rain (“lluvia”) soothes the soul.
With mesmerizing and refreshing acrobatic performances, LUZIA brings traditional and contemporary circus disciplines to a whole new level. Cyr Wheel artists perform the unprecedented feat of rolling and spinning under the rain, while an aerialist suspended from a Trapeze flies and twirls through pouring showers. Hoop Diving is taken onto gigantic treadmills, expanding exponentially the speed and amount of daring leaps executed. Jaw-dropping highlights include a male contortionist skillfully twisting his body in the world’s most unimaginable positions, a powerful Aerial Straps specialist defying the laws of gravity at the center of cenote (natural sinkhole), and two football (soccer) freestylers deftly mixing street dance with mind-blowing ball manipulations.
