wine walk for the kay yow cancer fund- fri, may 27
Benefitting the Kay Yow Cancer Fund, attendees are invited to stroll through Waverly Place and visit each store for a relaxed evening of shopping complete with wine tastings. The evening will conclude with live music on the promenade.
Cost: Sampling Glasses $10 donation
wral freedom balloon festival - fri, may 27- mon, may 30
There's a lot going on at the 2016 WRAL Freedom Balloon Fest presented by Fidelity Bank... Of course you'll get to see 35 beautiful hot air balloons take to the skies over Fuquay-Varina. PLUS - More than 20 hours of live music, military equipment and interactive displays, dozens of your favorite kinds of festival food, 40,000 square feet of amusements geared for the kids, a craft beer and wine garden, and the Merchant, Arts & Crafts Village courtesy of the Fuquay-Varina Chamber of Commerce.
soda pop-up market- sat, may 28
The market is typically open on the 2nd and 4th Saturday of the month (10-2pm) and features mostly handcrafted goods from 25+ local artists, crafters and designers.
glow in the park run - sat, may 28
Before the race, you and your friends will each get a goody bag of glow accessories and paint to adorn yourselves to the height of glowy fashion. Then to brave the seas of foam (industrial machines spewing foam to the beat of some hot music), the rain storm of UV glow water (volunteers will spray a rainbow of glow water as you run past), and the dust cloud of neon powder (volunteers will toss handfuls of neon goodness to make sure you are covered in color and glowing like a champ)! Once you have triumphantly reached the finish line you will be greeted by a celebratory dance party and a chance to show off your accumulation of glow and your fabulous dance moves.
BONUS - Enhance your glow experience by renting a blacklight headlight!
rhapsody in red, white, & blue: an american celebration- sun, may 29
This is a family-friendly outdoor concert that will feature music by George Gershwin, Aaron Copland, John Williams, John Philip Sousa and other American music icons, along with a patriotic salute to Veterans on this Memorial Day weekend. Featured soloists are Gabriel Crist, young Durham nature performing Gershwin’s “Rhapsody in Blue,” and renowned vocalist Louise Toppin, backed by the Triangle Wind Ensemble “big band".
