We visited Water Country in Williamsburg a couple of weeks ago and the kids had a BLAST!! We spent 7 hours there and I honestly think they could have stayed 7 more! We don't have passes to theme parks so this was a treat for them this summer! We went for the first time last year and I knew we would be back...I'm not sure if that is because Jay and I had such a good time or the kids...it took us bribing them with ice cream to get out of the lazy river(which they had probably been in for close to an hour!) Ha!
The first ride you see when you walk into the park is the Colossal Curl. This ride is my favorite by far! I can't remember the last time I got butterflies, but this definitely did it for me! It was also slightly scary watching how high we went up in the funnel and hoping my kids were holding on tight(that's the mom in me!)
I love that they have several water playgrounds for little ones and plenty of places to relax!(See above photo.) My son Carter and his friend wanted to play in the kiddie area for a bit and although they are probably a bit big for that play place, they had fun nonetheless!
During our 7 hour adventure, we were able to ride every single ride! The lines move relatively fast and most of the time you are wet from the last ride so it's never really hot!
They have several places to snack or eat a meal at throughout the park. My kiddos ate a burger and chicken strips with fries and I got a made-to-order Tex-Mex salad bowl! They also have subs, wraps, pizza, hot dogs, icecream, funnel cakes, nachos, a candy shop, you name it! And an added bonus.....wine and draft beer! To make things easier, we did the Quick Pay cashless wristband which lets you make purchases without having to carry your purse around!
My kids love the wave so that occupied them for a while so I could enjoy some sunshine! And if sunbathing isnt your thing, they offer private cabanas! Seating was a bit hard to find at the wave pool, so it may be wise to reserve either a lounger or a cabana for the day!
I think the best thing about Water Country is that it is just three miles from Busch Gardens and they do offer passes/tickets for both parks! AND they are close to Colonial Williamsburg, Yorktown, and Jamestown so you can make a whole weekend out of it if you would like or just go for the day...the hour drive is not bad at all!
They have an abundance of water slides and it is fun for kids of all ages! Below is a map of the park to give you a better idea on

Our family took a long weekend trip to VA Beach a couple of weeks ago and did so many fun things while we were there! Of course, we were at the beach so the sand and water were our main attractions and we did a lot of packed lunches and snacks....BUT we knew that we wanted to have one really nice meal while we were there and while researching for great restaurants, I found 11th Street Taphouse Bar & Grille. They currently have one restaurant that opened in 2010(the VA Beach location) and have since then opened three additional restaurants in Maryland.
It also is conveniently located inside of the Hampton Inn hotel! Had we stayed at this particular hotel, we probably would have eaten here every meal! The restaurant itself is very relaxed...it is a perfect spot for either a date night or family outing. I love that they have acoustic music each Friday, Saturday, and Sunday and the patio outside was perfect for our dinner that evening. We were next to the ocean so the breeze felt amazing and the live music made for a such a wonderful dinner. They even had giant jenga which kept our kiddos occupied while waiting for our entrees! Their menu has a nice variety of food options.....they have something for everyone with seafood being the star dishes! Their draft list includes about 32 taps, most of which they try to keep local. If you know anything about me, you know that I LOVE a good beer, so of course we ordered a couple of beers local to VA Beach!
We started with the Beach Lobster Dip which had lobster, artichoke, ale and cheese and served with blue corn chips. It was so tasty! Just the right amount of lobster, cheese and artichoke...it was creamy, not runny like a lot of restaurants make "dip." My daughter is an extremely picky eater and I was surprised when she decided to try it! Well, I am happy to say that she loved it!
Next up were the main entrees! I got the Shrimp and Crab Boat which had three cheese cream, parmesan cheese, garlic herb potatoes and buttered green beans. It was so tasty and being that seafood is my favorite choice of food, I was in heaven! I wanted to make sure I tried a little of every dish, and I am so glad I did!
Carter ordered the Crabcakes which had a cucumber dill aoli and served with herb potatoes and buttered green beans. He said they were delicious and had a lot of flavor! I thought they had just the right amount of breading to crab ratio and the aoli went so well! Carter felt so special and grown up ordering from the adult menu and he LOVES crabcakes so he was as happy as a lark!
Jay got the Tuna which had a honey sriracha glaze, mandarin crab peanut slaw, jasmine rice and buttered green beans. The tuna was seared perfectly, had a lot of flavor, and all paired so well together! It had a little spice to it, but not overbearing!
And finally, Kaleigh's dish! The Surf and Turf was probably my favorite dish of the night. It was a 6 ounce filet mignon topped with sauteed shrimp in a buttery sauce with roasted potatoes and wilted spinach. The steak was perfectly cooked and was bursting with flavor in every bite! The shrimp paired so well and the buttery sauce was simply amazing!
Onto desserts! All of the desserts are made in house and although we were full from dinner, we just had to try them! Jay and I shared the Carrot Cake which was to DIE for!! It was incredibly moist and oh so good! Jay doesn't even like carrot cake and he LOVED every bite! I didn't get the chance to try the S'mores Fudge Brownie that the kids ordered because the devoured it in .2 seconds! Haha! But I am assuming it was delicious as well!
Our server, Amanda, was so sweet and took great care of us! She was able to answer any questions we had about the menu and make suggestions for us! We spoke with Amy, the general manager, who said that the restaurant's goal is have happy customers 100% of the time. They strive to build community within their restaurant and love when people choose to make 11th Street their "regular" hangout spot. The aim to have quick service but don't rush to get you out the door. They want you to enjoy your visit. They also encourage large group outings and try to create an atmosphere that is both casual enough to to be on a date or out with your family. Having the restaurant in the hotel makes it especially convenient for those there for vacation, business trips, etc and it allows the restaurant to remain open year round!
We enjoyed our dining experience and definitely recommend 11th Street Taphouse as a go-to spot for when you visit VA Beach! Below is more information!

All in all, it was such a fun time! The little bit of nervousness I felt was immediately calmed when my youngest got right up there and did it with ease! He isn't a dare devil so I was nervous that he would be too afraid, but he did great! Our instructor was fantastic and I loved seeing the smiles on everyone's faces as they came out of the tunnel! Each flight is only 60 seconds in length, but surprisingly, it seems like much longer! My favorite part was the "high fly," an add-on which, in my opinion, is a must have!! This is another 60 second flight, but unlike the regular flight which you are low to the ground(see photo below), this flight you actually go up about 20-25 feet with another instructor and it is AWESOME! The last photo of my husband with the flight instructor will give you a better idea! I am so glad we did this and I have a feeling we will be back!
Carter says, "It was amazing because it felt like you were really skydiving...the only thing missing was a parachute!"
Kaleigh, "It was really fun! I felt like a bird!"
Jay says, "It was an awesome experience! I couldn't stop smiling the entire time!"
Below is a short clip from the "high fly" option! SO much fun!
