Rachel and I met for lunch at Rock Bottom last week to check out the space for our upcoming event on November 15th. We met with Dawn who is the local social media, marketing and event coordinator for Rock Bottom who also deals with guest relations, large party bookings, special events, community outreach, fundraising, donations...you name it, she does it! She is such a sweetheart and really strives to help the restaurant in any way she can. Rock Bottom in Short Pump opened in June of 2014. The original Rock Bottom opened in 1991 in Denver, CO and the inspiration behind opening the restaurant was that they wanted to create a place for good friends to enjoy good beer. Rock Bottom in Richmond is no exception. They pride themselves in customer service and their goal is to deliver a perfectly "crafted"(get it??) experience from start to finish. Their motto is "Every guest every time." For a guest, this means that they want to make sure that you have the best experience every time you walk through the doors. They strive to go above and beyond expectations for guests. This guest focused mentality is one of the reasons why they have a good amount of regulars. And don't let the "corporate title" thought get into your head. Although Rock Bottom is technically a chain, everything that comes out of the kitchen is from scratch. Local brew and local chefs...what more could you ask for?!
One thing I LOVE about Rock Bottom is their large patio area. It is so nice to sit out there on a beautiful day and enjoy a delicious meal paired with a cold beverage. They also have these large garage doors that they open up to the patio on nice days...if you haven't been, you NEED to go..the restaurant is beautiful! Not only that, but they have a nice layout so that whether you are looking for a nice meal with the family, a quiet date night spot, a friends outing, or a place to watch the latest game, it is all there for your preference. They also have communal tables on the bar side of the restaurant which I love because you have the chance to become friends with people who enjoy the same things you do. The tables give guests a chance to interact with people who they may not have crossed paths with before, giving the restaurant a sense of community. And an added plus is the large screen projector on the wall!(hint hint football fans!)
When asked what kind of food Rock Bottom has, Dawn responded, "We have a traditional, casual American dining with a Southwest undertone." They have a wide variety of food choices, so whether you are picky or adventurous, they have it all including but not limited to: appetizers, soups and salad, burgers, sandwiches, entrees, tacos, pizza, steak, seafood and of course dessert! They have a large list of delicious wines, cocktails, mules, and margaritas. They also have a non-aloholic beverage list! You can view their full menu here!
Onto the food! Rachel and I were trying to be good, so each went with the Brewer's Cobb salad which had grilled chicken, bacon, gorgonzola cheese, avocado and eggs(dressing on the side!) ;) It was delicious! It was definitely a heaping portion, but we ate every last bite! We also had a bowl of their amazing chicken tortilla soup which hit the spot, as it was a bit chilly. I for one, have been craving soup every day now that fall is here and I am STILL craving that soup! It was SO good!
We also had a sampling of the Margherita pizza and the Jalapeño Pretzel Stix with spinach cheese dip and both were delicious! I don't think you can go wrong with pizza and who doesn't love a good pretzel?! These are just a couple of items on the Happy Hour app specials and I am so excited for November 15th so I can try more of what they have to offer!
And to top it off, Rachel had a Bloody Mary which she thoroughly enjoyed(she likes it spicy!) and I had one of their seasonal beers, the Skeleton Dance, which was an Imperial Pumpkin Ale....amazing!!!! So maybe we didn't do as well as we though in the "healthy" department, but was it worth it? Absolutely! And the best part was getting to know Dawn and learn about the restaurant!
They also have some pretty awesome Happy Hour specials including: $2 off all beers, cocktails and wines and a variety of $2, $5 and $7 apps! "Tasting Tuesday" is where you can purchase $4 flights as well as enjoy live music from 6:00-9:00. Fridays are also live music nights from 9:00pm-12:00am. Be sure to sign up for their rewards program at the restaurant or online. When you sign up, you automatically get $10 off your next purchase and then sent email promotions!
We are SO excited for our Girl's Night Out event here in November, be sure to get your tickets for the event!
So.....beer *may* be a weakness for me. It is such a thirst quenching drink and I love all the kinds of beer, especially seasonal ones like pumpkin, gingerbread, and coffee. This is where Rock Bottom comes into play. Sure, there are other breweries around, BUT Rock Bottom is the ONLY restaurant that brews their beer locally in Richmond. They are one of a kind. They usually have about 10-13 beers on tap in which they rotate about once a month. The beers change with season and demand, but they always have the following: kolsch, wheat, red, IPA and a dark...something for everyone's taste buds. :) If beer isn't your thing, they have plenty of cocktails and wine to choose from and if you are looking to venture out and try some of their craft beers, they offer flights! I encourage those of you who don't normally drink beer to give it a try!
And I just love their quote from their website, "When you hit Rock Bottom, you'll enjoy our handcrafted beers, our made from scratch food, and something else that just doesn't happen that often...a connection to the locals. This connection is made possible because of our staff, and as they would like to say, life begins when 'You've Hit Rock Bottom'!"
If you're convinced you need to check this place out, do it TODAY! They have Kids Pumpkin Painting today from 6:00-8:00 with live music snacks and they are providing the pumpkins!
