If you've never been on a Tacky Light Tour in Richmond...DO. IT. Not only is it great to grab a group of friends for a night on the town, but you also get to see some pretty amazing houses decked out for Christmas! And possibly the best part no one has to worry about the driving! Winn Transportation hooked us up with a 25 passenger seat bus and we hit the Richmond city Tacky Light tour! We had the best time riding around town looking at lights...probably being way too loud and girly for our amazing driver, Danny, and laughing the night away.
Winn prides itself in being the oldest family-owned and operated transportation company in Virginia! They have a wide variety of vehicles including sedans, limousines, vans, minicoaches and full-size motorcoaches! They are celebrating their 57th year being in business this year and I can't say enough great things about them. We were able to see so many awesome houses and had the convience to get out and walk around or stay inside the warm bus. Our driver was also knowledgable when it came to the number of lights and the electric bills for the two houses in the above photo....let me just say...I would NOT want that bill. :/
We had such a fun time and are definintely planning to make it a yearly event! If you're going to take the Tacky Light Tour in Richmond, be sure you take it with the company that did the very FIRST Tacky Christmas Decoration Contest and Grand Highly Illuminated Lights Tour with Mad Dog in 1985. Now that's impressive! AND they are selling individual seats on December 17th and 23rd for $25 a person! Go get your ticket now!

I met with Emily who is in charge of the marketing and event coordinating at Social 52. She talked about the vibrant atmosphere Social 52 has to offer. Social 52 can be described as a very relaxed restaurant. It has a lively vibe...perfect for date nights and family friendly. They understand the importance of having a good time so they strive to make a fun atmosphere where guests can unwind. The name Social 52 was coined when the owners decided to open the restaurant because they wanted to bring to Richmond a place for people to be social 52 weeks out of the year. I love their tagline, "Eat. Drink. Be Social." How perfect!
By the time I arrived, the restaurant was buzzing with lively conversation....a really nice thing to hear after a long week. I saw many smiling faces and that is what they want.....guests to enjoy their time here, enjoy conversation with good company, and enjoy a delicious meal and cold beverage. It is a very laid back setting with a happy and fun atmosphere.
Their menu has a nice variety of food options. The dishes are inspired by Richmond with Social 52's own spin. They like to stay with what is trending while adding a local flair. Looking over the menu, it seems as if they have something for everyone and offer vegetarian options! Their draft list includes about 16 taps, most of which they try to keep local to Richmond. They also have a delicious looking brunch menu and their cocktails look amazing! They have daily events to include: Monday's which is extended Happy Hour from 4:00-9:00; Tuesday's are Build Your Own Grilled Cheese Night and Cards Against Humanity at 9:00 and Wednesday's is Burger and Brew Night(any specialty burger and 12 or 14 oz local VA draft for $10). They also offer the chef specials which change daily and weekly.
So, I have a slight obsession with deviled eggs. I only ever eat them on Thanksgiving but I LOVE them! So when I saw deep. fried. deviled. eggs(!!!) on the menu, I could not resist. And for all of you Sriracha lovers...They are panko breaded with Sriracha! They were delicious! They had the perfect amount of crispness, yet somehow the egg remained soft. It took every ounce of self control to not eat them all. I would highly recommend this delicious appetizer. I *almost* got the Mac n Cheetos which sound equally amazing(you can even add chicken or bacon).
Two words...The Cowboy. 1/2 lb angus beef with pimento cheese, a fried green tomato, applewood smoked bacon, a fried egg and served on Texas toast. Yea....so much for my diet! Haha! First bite in and I was hooked! The burger was seasoned well and cooked to perfection and that pimento cheese was to die for. Everything paired so well together and the fried green tomato(which they also have as an appetizer) was a nice touch. I again found myself having to exert self control to not eat the entire burger. I subbed the regular fries for sweet potato...because who doesn't love those crispy, divine cuts of potato?!
As a mom, I think what I love most about Social is that....get this....every Sunday Moms eat for FREE with their families! They went a different route from "Sunday Funday" and decided that family is important so why not give Mom the appreciation she deserves and treat her to a nice meal?! I LOVE this! Mules, Marys, Mimosas, and Moms....that's what its all about! Oh, and they have a really awesome food and drink menu! ;)
They offer a wide variety of brunch items like fried chicken and waffles, omelets, shrimp and grits, grilled cheese, your classic bacon and eggs, biscuits and gravy, with a la carte and soup and salad options. They even have green eggs and ham which They offer either by the glass or pitcher mimosas and tableside Bloody Marys.
The restaurant's goal is have happy customers 100% of the time. They strive to build community within their restaurant and love when people choose to make Social their "regular" hangout spot. The aim to have quick service but don't rush to get you out the door. They want you to stay and be social. They also encourage large group outings and try to create an atmosphere that is both casual enough to to be on a date or out with your family. They offer both private and open events, Happy Hour parties, Give Back Nights and host special events such as pumpkin carving and an ugly sweater party.
And we are SO excited that they are hosting our December GNO! Be sure to visit our Facebook Event page to here about all the great vendors and giveaways we will be doing and register to get your ticket to the event here!
