Jay and I decided to check out The Wine Loft in Short Pump at the West Broad Village. When we first arrived, we knew this was a very unique place. It is not your typical restaurant (I am not even sure I would call it a restaurant) though they do offer a menu of small plates with a variety of items to choose from. It is more of an upscale lounge with comfortable couches and a more intimate, relaxed setting. And with the live music ranging anywhere from vocalists to acoustics and jazz, it is definitely a great atmosphere for a date night or fun girls night out. They offer over 85 wines by the glass and over 250 wines by the bottle, as well as beer and mixed drinks. If you are looking for something new to try, especially in regards to wine, this is the place to go! They offer wine flights to help those curious about getting out of their comfort zones and trying new things. The staff is very knowledgeable about wines and can offer suggestions based off of what you like or looking for. They aim to try to introduce people to something new and different. In addition, they also offer wine tastings and nightly specials, so be sure to check out their Facebook page to stay up to date with the latest happenings. Need to host a private event? They do that too! The Wine Loft can hold up to 200 people for the entire place and about 45-50 people upstairs. They average about 3-4 private events per week, with December being their busiest time for private event parties.
We met the owner, Jeff, who opened The Wine Loft in 2008 (his was the third or fourth place to open in Short Pump). Jeff is a dad of two girls and was a pilot for 15 years, but had always worked in the restaurant business from cooking and waiting tables to bar tending and managing. He grew tired of piloting and decided to take a risk and open The Wine Loft. I would say that risk has paid off because he has done an excellent job. There really isn't a place like this...it isn't your typical bar scene and was voted best spot for ladies night out.
I decided to go with the Malbec and it was everything I was hoping for. Don't know a lot about wines? This is probably the best place you could go to try a few varieties of wine as well as learn about them so you can become a wine connoisseur. ;)
All in all, we had a great time visiting The Wine Loft and chatting with Jeff. We definitely plan to go back for another date night sooner than later!
