Did you know child abuse is a HUGE problem. Not only here in San Antonio but everywhere in the nation.
Here are five facts about child abuse that may surprise you.
Their mission is to "restore hope and healing through expert treatment to children and their families who have been traumatized by abuse. "
As awareness has grown about the prevalence of child abuse, the need for services has also increased. Last year ChildSafe served over 3,400 individuals. ChildSafe experienced a 33% increase in the number of individuals served through counseling; a 37% increase in counseling sessions performed; a 6% increase in the number of new children served; a 9% increase in forensic interviews conducted over the previous year; and a 14% increase in the number of individuals trained.
In the first six months of this fiscal year, ChildSafe has already experienced a 17% increase in forensic interviews; a 47% increase in the number of counseling sessions; and, 23% increase in number of clients receiving counseling services.
These facts are staggering to say the least. But that's the exact reason why I wanted to partner with them this month for our Girls Night Out event. Come out to our Free event to make a Cardboard Kid and learn other ways you can help with advocacy for the children effected by child abuse in our community.
We will have a table set up to make your own Cardboard Kids. So on April 6th you can put it out anywhere you know children will be. That could be in front of your house or the library, the grocery store or a park. Kids are everywhere in San Antonio and kids seeing these cardboard cutouts could spur them to find their voice to share what is going on in their home. Or it could encourage you to share your own experience of child abuse.
Secrets are only strong when they remain secret.
Join us on March 21st for our FREE Girls Night Out of shopping, mingling and learning more about Childsafe San Antonio and their #cardboardkids.
"Think like a Queen. A Queen is not afraid to fail. Failure is another steppingstone to greatness" -Oprah Winfrey
This is my mantra on life and how I live. I am not scared to fail because that motivates me more if I do. I learn to live one day at a time and will never be too old for it.
I enjoy spending time with boyfriend whether it's traveling, reading a book, trying new eateries or playing with my dog. I find myself as easy going as it gets.
