San Antonio became my family's home only two years this February. Coming from the beautiful state of Colorado where feet of snow dumb for 8 months out of the year (I lived in the mountains), San Antonio was a breath of fresh air. So we have spent lots of time checking out all the great parks, dined at many restaurants and experienced an event or two.
1. First thing I love about SATX is the parks. There are so many that are well developed. We visit Yanaguana at Hemisfair Park. They have the best rope tower, disc swings, ping pong, a play house, splash pad, sand box and more! My boys always race to the top of the rope tower.
This park is super urban and parking is pain some days (they have a new parking lot that is $2 every thirty mins...WHAT!!) But on the off days we can go and enjoy a picnic at the lounge chairs, play hula hoop or chess.
2. I love the weather! The short winter and long warm summers invite us to the pools, the rivers and BBQ backyard parties. The weather really was a bonus of us moving here. I don’t mind the humidity any more and the breeze that comes through every few days helps when the dog days of summer get long, drawn and HOT!
3. Don't forget the River Walk! I know it sounds all touristy of me but it is one of my favorite things to do with my kids or on a date night with my husband. The River Walk is inviting if you want to rent a bike for a romantic ride down on the lower South Side or if you just want to stroll along after a dinner at the Pearl District (I am found of La Gloria at the moment).
My kids and I like to spot wildlife and we are always sure to see lots of turtles, snakes and frogs over near South Town and the Blue Star District. I am always surprised to hear how many locals don't visit down town or the River Walk often. I love the city too much to stay away!
4. The taco’s in San Antonio are the best ever. In mountain town Colorado they don’t have a taco craze like they do here. Most Mexican restaurants favor the burrito there. But I have running joke that "if your Mexican restaurant doesn't have a drive-through then it might not be really Mexican". All jokes aside, SATX delivers breakfast tacos, street tacos, fish taco, you name it, it TACOS. And I can’t even give a shout to a one in particular cuz I don’t want to cause a jealous riot.
!!BOUNUS!! San Antonio has created quite the food frenzie. And even though we don’t eat out a ton as a family when we do there are some sweat restaurants that have a playground, a huge playfield or sand boxes (my least fav...can we say #beachproblems. Ha!!)
Again I won’t shout out to an in particular but there is one with Big Burgers and another with Brotherly BBQ. Just do do a google search for restaurants with playgrounds and you will find more choices. Having a playground to entertain the kids while the hubs and I visit is a nice distraction. Also the typical McDs style gets old after awhile and we all know how bad it is for us :/
So that’s a few thing that I love about San Antonio Texas. I could go on with more but I want to hear from you. What do you love about this city? Where is your fav coffee shop (oh that will be another post for sure!!) and what park do you take your kids to the most?
Share the love!!
After spending many years in rual Colorado, SATX has become my family's home. And we LOVE IT! I'm the mother of 4 boys & one sweet girl. I'm silly & loud but usually on time. I love coffee, all things made with rice and most anything organic & LOCAL ;) #SATX
