As the holidays have passed, and we are finally settling into our new year routines, I wanted to take a moment to introduce myself! My name is Jordan, and I am your new social media and events coordinator for Housewives in the City Wichita Falls!
I have lived in WF a little over one year now and absolutely love the community here. My husband and I are originally from Vermont (I met him because I worked at a hotel with his mother in college - talk about fate!) and he is in the Air Force stationed here at Sheppard AFB. We have two beautiful little boys, Cohen (18 months) and Caden (4 months). Our life is not only crazy fun with two under two, but we also have four dogs!
I have a degree in Event Management and also have my own wedding planning business that I brought to Texas with me from North Carolina where we were previously stationed with the Air Force. I cannot WAIT to kick off 2018 at our first GNO on March 5th at Half Pint Taproom and Restoration Hall! It is a new taproom and event venue in WF with amazing brick oven pizza and 36 beers on tap. You won't want to miss this event! See you soon!

Hello Ladies! We had our July Girl’s Night Out last week, and it was so much fun! I wanted to say thank you to everyone who came out and for those who couldn’t make we hope to see you at our next event!
I wanted to share the links to our fabulous vendors, that way you can still shop from them just in case you missed out on a product/service, or if you would like more information from them. So, here are the Ladies We Love this month!
I also want to take a second to personally thank the lovely people at Highlander Public House for allowing us to be apart of their amazing venue and of course the very talented S. Ainsworth Photography for capturing some amazing photos of our fun night out!

There are some people in life who make friendships effortless. They are those people who feed your soul without trying to. These people are “your person” and I’ve come to the conclusion that you will only have a handful of these types of friends in a lifetime.
Sometimes these people end up in different parts of the world as we grow, follow dreams, careers, and grow families. It isn’t fair to have to leave or watch them go with the uncertainty of when you will laugh over a bottle of wine again. However, I am here to tell you that those friendships will never dissipate.
You will drive across the country to see them for less than 24 hours or maybe they will pass through your town on a move. Before you see them, you will realize how much you haven’t spoken to them over the past year and wonder how much has changed since then. But then you’ll see them and you will pick up right where you left off like nothing every changed.
That is how you know you found your person.
You will spend time catching up and reminiscing on memories that hold a spot in your heart that you cherish. You will hug their children tighter and spoil them rotten like any surrogate aunt would.
You will soak in every minute you get with them, and as your time together comes to an end you will be reminded how much you miss them. How much you miss your shopping trips, play dates, going out to lunch, and just having conversation over coffee in the morning with someone who totally gets it.
You will have to say your good-byes again and this time it might not have as many tears as the first time you said good-bye but it won’t hurt any less. Even though you may not know exactly when you will see them again for that morning cup of coffee, you will know that when you do see them again you both will pick up right from where you left off and nothing will have changed because they are your person and you are theirs.
We all had a great time celebrating the beauty of Texas while raising money for an amazing non-profit at the very first Summer Soiree at the River Bend Nature Center!
The River Bend Nature Center is a local non-profit that focuses on connecting people to their natural environment through educational activities, environmental awareness, and conservation examples.
This amazing non-profit spend $0.91 of every dollar on maintaining their 20 acre environmental education facility. Our nature center saw 35,000 people last year and has been rated as a top tourist site on TripAdvisor for Wichita Falls.
Not only are they connecting our community with nature but they are also working closely with children all around Texoma! The RBNC works with children in 32 schools from 13 different counties they also feature camps throughout the year which are sure to bring a smile to your kid’s face! You can check out their upcoming camps here.
The RBNC is a treasure to be cherished, that is why I wanted to host this event for them. I wanted to give back to them for bringing so much to our community. Through our Summer Soiree we were able to reach 12,000 locals through our Facebook event page alone. Our ticket sales will help feed over 100 live exhibits for 1 week, send a child to camp for 1 week, and provide a 1 hour traveling animal presentation. This does not include the raffle proceeds that will also directly benefit their facility.
This event came together beautifully with the help of many sponsors and businesses in the community. Through their support we were able to collect over $1,500 worth of raffles! Special thank you to: John Lee Stoiloff – Farmers Agency and Texoma Community Credit Union for sponsoring our event. Without these sponsorships this event would not have been possible. Our drink sponsors Dulce Vida Tequila, American Born Whiskey, Falls Distributing, and Fisher59 for being so generous! I also need to thank Gypsy Kit Catering for their lovely culinary skills and Century Tents and Events for helping us enhance the natural beauty of their venue at the River Bend Nature Center through their event rentals.
I hope all of our attendees enjoyed themselves and I hope to grow this event into one that Wichita Falls embraces in the years to come. I hope to see you at our 2018 Summer Soiree!
I didn’t have a nuclear family or what one might consider a “normal” upbringing, but many of us didn’t. When I was a young child my Dad and Mom decided to end their marriage and in the process my Dad received full custody of my older sister and I. It isn’t common for a man to receive custody of his 2 daughters in a divorce but I didn’t know any different at the age of 3.
Most women can say that they have fond memories of their mother as they were there for every little thing as they grew up. My mother wasn’t, but my Dad was.
When I was 5 I saw an infomercial for the topsy-tail, it was a tool you used to make a fun new style of ponytail! I wanted one so bad.
What did my dad do?
He recorded the commercial on the VCR and watched it over and over until he could do the topsy-tail on my hair without the tool. He learned to paint nails and how to style hair in so many different ways he could probably teach many moms a thing or two in little girl’s hairstyles.
When I needed to go shopping for my first bra… my Mom wasn’t there, but my Dad was and he did his best even though he was clearly out of his element.
My Dad didn’t know what he was doing most of the time but he did the best with the information he had in those moments.
He supported me when I wanted to play soccer, twirl batons competitively, and play field hockey. He never missed one of my high school plays, or one of my swim meets. He saw me win and he saw me fail. He was always there to cheer me on.
He was there when I got my first broken heart, I was 16. I will never forget him telling me that “sometimes loving someone isn’t about loving everything about that person but simply being able to deal with the things you do not like about them”. It is something I still hold on to today in my own marriage. He taught me that we are not perfect and we all make mistakes. And when loved ones make mistakes we forgive them because that is what we do when we love someone.
He taught me the importance of working and working hard. He is still the hardest worker I know and I hope to one day be half as successful as he has been. He taught me self-worth and independence.
My Dad was there when I became a wife. He was there for the delivery of my boys who made me a mother. He saw me walk the stage to get my Bachelor’s degree.
My Dad is everything to me, he made me into the person I am today. No, he isn’t perfect but he doesn’t have to be for me to know how much he loves us. His love is unfailing. That is why on Mother’s Day I celebrate him. He was there for me when my mother couldn’t be and if you ask me, he did an amazing job.
So this Mother’s Day while we celebrate those who brought us into the world, be sure to recognize those men who are doing the best they can to be both a mother and a father.
Happy Mother’s Day Dad!
Nestled in between Dallas, Amarillo, and Oklahoma City is a big town with a small town vibe! Wichita Falls, Texas has a population of 105,000+ and has a lot to offer if you know where to look! So if you are new to the area, a tourist, or even a long time local; read on and check out this list of the top 5 places to visit in Falls Town (with a few extra honorable mentions)!
1. Kiwanis Park!
This park is one of many in Wichita Falls but this 60 acre park has a fun twist compared to the rest! Kiwanis park is the only park in town with a prairie dog neighborhood, also known as Coteries! The park has picnic shelters, a playground, lighted baseball fields, and more! If you are looking for additional information about local parks in Wichita Falls visit the parks page on the city website located here!
2. Alley Cat Vintage Mercantile!
Looking for anything and everything? Look no further! Alley Cat is a multi-level local store in downtown Wichita Falls that has a wide array of goods from antiques, rare collectable items, recycled and upscale furniture, vintage clothing, rare books, and even a rocket launcher! Yes, the last time we visited my husband about bought a rocket launcher… Anyways the store is a paradise for thrifters and collectors of all kinds. Don’t forget to stop in and say hi to the kind gentleman behind the register before you leave! You can find them on Facebook here!
3. Keeno’s Beef Jerky!
Once you are done shopping in Alley Cat, head across the street over to Keeno’s to get some award winning jerky! Keeno's is locally owned and has got to be the best jerky in town! My family loves jerky and I am very picky about the texture, I like my jerky meaty, soft, and easy to chew! Keeno’s is the perfect combination of it all. With such a wide variety of flavors, they are well on their way to creating a beef jerky emporium! Be sure to ask about their monthly jerky memberships + check out their website here!
4. Gypsy Kit!
Looking for somewhere to grab lunch? Check out this downtown gem that has found a place in the heart of the locals! Gypsy Kit is also locally owned and boasts an eclectic menu that will leave you very satisfied. Their Dr. Pepper tacos are one of my favorites, but anyone who knows me knows tacos = life! Don’t take my word for it though, head out there for lunch and see for yourself what all the fuss is about! You can even check out their food truck at their second location on Kemp at Gypsy Uncorked! Follow them on Facebook here for their specials!
5. The Maplewood!
This locally owned bar is probably the trendiest in Wichita Falls. It will give you the feeling of a high end big city bar and allow you to step out into a whole new atmosphere that you can’t find anywhere else around Wichita Falls. The drinks served at The Maplewood are all carefully handcrafted by their bartenders with fresh ingredients. They also host many art events including painting parties! Be sure to stop in for a few drinks, you won’t be disappointed! You can also check out their Facebook page for all of their upcoming events here!
Now this list is definitely not a complete list of the best places in Wichita Falls but they definitely top my list! I would also like to add 5 honorable mentions!
Now that you know some of my favorite places in Wichita Falls, tell me what yours are!
It is strawberry picking season and if you are looking for something to do with all the strawberries your family picked over the weekend, then I have the perfect recipe for you that everyone is sure to enjoy!
I have been making this strawberry pie for over 15 years, I concocted it when I was a teenager visiting family and experimenting in the kitchen. Strawberries have always been my favorite fruit, so if you're like me and you love strawberries; try out my favorite strawberry pink pie!
1 regular size container of cool whip
2-3 cups of strawberries (washed and cut into bite size pieces - but not too small!!)
1 package of strawberry jello
1 graham cracker crust (store bought or you can make it yourself!)
Place cool whip, strawberries, and strawberry jello packet in a bowl and mix until combined.
Pour mixture over the graham cracker pie crust and cover.
Refrigerate over night.
Voila! Enjoy a delicious strawberry pink pie courtesy of moi!
Do you ever get the need to just get away with a few of your girlfriends, have a few drinks, and dance? Maybe you had a bad week or maybe you haven’t been out in almost a year because life keeps you busy. I am guilty of the latter. So this past weekend I did just that!
A great friend of mine and I decided to check out Oklahoma City, OK and have a night out in Bricktown! We booked our stay at the Aloft since it was centrally located to all the nightlife and while we planned to check out a couple different places, we found ourselves staying at the Pretty Please Social Room all night! It was a great night out and allowed us to put our busy lives on hold just for one evening.
If you are looking to enjoy a fun night out with your girls, check out these 5 simple tips to ensure you ladies have a great night!
As always enjoy yourselves, have fun, and stay safe! Sticking with your friends and having a plan on how to leave with each other is the most important thing you can do!
Do you like smoothies? Well, this is one to add to your recipe book! Let me tell you how much I love this smoothie: SO MUCH! The recipe is simple and tastes great, who could ask for more? In all seriousness, this is my go to smoothie recipe.
When I first made this recipe I nick-named it “The Hulk Smoothie” in the efforts to get my then 3 year old to eat/drink something green! It worked and so I ran with the goofy name to keep him interested in it. So if you are looking for a quick easy meal that is healthy and that you can take on the go, check out my recipe below!
The Hulk Smoothie
1 banana (pealed and broken into chunks)
1 large handful of spinach
8oz of coconut milk (substitute: almond milk)
2Tbsp almond butter (substitute: peanut butter)
8-10 ice cubes
In order to get a well-blended smoothie, layer ingredients as follows:
Almond butter, spinach, banana, ice cubes, and almond milk.
Blend until all ingredients are combined about 1 ½ minutes.
I am originally from the mountainous state of Vermont (no that is not in Canada!) - my passion is event planning and spending time with my little family consisting of my husband, two little boys and four fur children.
