Meet Alma & Alma Boutique
Hi! I'm Alma Dodson. I've lived in Texas all my life. Crazy, right?! I grew up in south Texas and moved to College Station to attend Texas A&M University after high school. I moved to Austin in 2002 after graduating and have been here ever since. Now that I've lived here so long...I can say I'm an Austinite who's also an Aggie! My husband is a Longhorn so we're a house divided! Ha!
I'm also a mom to two young girls. I don't have much spare time these days or get to travel as much as I'd like, but I love traveling and still have many places on my bucket list! I love food, watching movies and of course fashion! I secretly enjoy watching reality TV and social media. I also really enjoy running...it's therapeutic for me and some of my best ideas have been born while running.
When & Why did you launch Alma Boutique?
I launched Alma Boutique in May of 2017. I've loved fashion since I was a little girl and have always been passionate about the way I dress. After I moved to Austin, I worked at a local boutique and learned about the operations of a boutique. I wanted to open a boutique of my own but I also had plans to attend graduate school and work at an ad agency, so I put off my dream of owning a boutique thinking a career in marketing and advertising was a smarter decision. After graduate school, I worked in the marketing and advertising industry for over 10 years.
In the winter of last year, I decided to pursue my dream of owning a boutique - only now, I would focus on starting an online-only boutique. Online shopping has become huge and so convenient! I myself shop a lot online so I knew this was the right type of boutique for me. After a few months of planning, I finally launched my site in May of 2017. I've enjoyed every minute of it...it's been so much work and I've definitely had to learn many new skills, but it's also been sooo much fun!
What sets you apart from other boutiques?
Aside from the fact that I'm online only, I truly focus on curating clothing with customers in mind. I focus on trendy, affordable clothing -- but also clothing that most women will want to wear and be comfortable in. My goal is to make women feel fabulous and confident in their outfits without spending a fortune. Women come in all shapes and sizes and while I don't carry plus size clothing, I strive to offer unique, fashionable clothing that fits many body types. Fashion is not only about clothing and trends, but how you wear it and feel in it!
I'm also in the early stages of designing accessories that will be available in Winter 2017. I also love when customers contact me for styling tips, so that will eventually turn into a service that I may offer in some capacity in 2018! Stay tuned! :)
Where do you look for inspiration?
I look for inspiration all around me. Of course I read fashion magazines and blogs, but I also find inspiration in photography, the outdoors, colors and patterns I find on Pinterest or in a local fabric shop. And as I said before, I even find inspiration while running or exercising outdoors!
What is your "perfect outfit" if one exists?
Oh gosh, that's tough! I have a perfect day outfit, night outfit and date night outfit for every season! If I had to settle on one, I would say it would be a fall outfit -- a pair of jeans, cute wedges or booties, a trendy top in a rich color with a beautiful patterned or statement scarf and a cute jacket - if it's cold enough. I always love a little height, I don't wear heels as much as I used to, but a cute wedge or bootie is a must to elongate legs and make the outfit! Just a little tip from me to you! ;)
Happy Monday everyone! I wanted to get on here to give you all some information on an amazing charity we spotlighted at our August event! We had the local organization Beautifully Loved and I just loved working with these amazing ladies! We collected donations of skincare and haircare products, make up and make up tools, leggings and gift cards for a beauty treatment or service. The women of Beautifully Loved had a table at our event and were able to give so much information on this wonderful organization but just incase you missed it, you can check out their mission and contact info below! Please reach out to them if you want to volunteer or help in any way! They would be thrilled to hear from you!
Mission: is to love and care for families dealing with pediatric cancer and other childhood illnesses through experiences that promote wellness, beauty, and fashion.
Vision: Illnesses, and the treatments that go along with them, can make it challenging for families to find the time to take care of themselves. By providing experiences that promote wellness, beauty and fashion for these special patients and their families fighting through hardship, we want to remind them that they are seen, valued and overwhelmingly loved. We want them to know that, while they don’t have the resources or energy to think of themselves, we will be thinking of them and helping them find ways to relax and restore. We hope to bring joy and lasting memories to children, their parents and siblings needing a moment away from their struggles, and we want to be part of the love they need during the difficult times.
Happy Labor Day everyone!! I hope y'all have had a wonderful and relaxing three day weekend in our gorgeous city, we couldn't of asked for better weather! I'm so excited for our August edition of Locals we Love because we just had our first downtown, ATX event last week and it was amazing! We had an amazing sponsor Chris Wiser of FacebookAdsGuy, the best vendors and our venue Sullivan's Steakhouse was awesome! We had a lovely charity partner Beautifully Loved where we collected donations and they would love for you to reach out to them if you'd like more info on their organization! If you missed it, it's okay because below is a recap of everyone who was there giving out info on their businesses and we hope to see you at the next event on September 20th at Forthright cafe in downtown beside the Four Seasons! Please feel free to reach out to the people below if you'd like to order anything from them or just want to chat more about what they do, they'd love to hear from you!
