Meet this month's Leading Lady Laura Rampy: I grew up in North Dallas and went to college in Galveston, TX. I have a Bachelor's in Ocean and Coastal Resources and a Master's in Healthcare Administration. I worked at the University of Texas Medical Branch for 12 years. I married my husband in 2012 and we recently moved to Austin for a job offer that he accepted. I currently work part-time as a virtual admin. assistant and have two businesses. One is a gemstone business that I primarily host on Etsy.com. My newest venture is Lipsense with Senegence and I'm very excited to get this off the ground!
Tell us about your business and how you became the successful business woman you are today.
I am a big fan of supporting local and small businesses. Earlier this year my best friend from high school contacted me about trying Lipsense. I was never someone who wore a lot of lipstick and rarely would wear full make-up, but I loved how driven she was to succeed so I picked a color and gave it a try. Long story short, I really liked the product and after a few months, and purchasing more colors, she asked if I wanted to become a distributor. Since first trying Lipsense, I have seen first hand how supportive and positive the ladies in this company are to all levels of their consultants. I've never done direct sales but felt like I could give this a shot and have a lot of positive encouragement and support from a great group of girls. I signed up as an independent distributor and have been hustling ever since. I love this product, a complete turn around from my view of lipstick before this, and I think everyone with lips should try it at least once...ha!
Describe yourself in three words:
Friendly, Self-Starter, Driven
What do you consider your greatest professional achievement?
My greatest professional achievement is completing my Master degree in Healthcare Administration in 2008. While I am not currently working in that industry, the education and experience I received completing this degree is something I will use for many years.
What are your professional goals for the next six months?
I would like to continue to spread the word about Lipsense and how great this product is for your lips, skin and its anti-aging properties. Also, I would like to sign-up a few girls as distributors so they can see the benefits that myself and many others have found in this opportunity!
What profession other than your own would you like to attempt?
Honestly, none. I really love what I'm doing!
How do you maintain a work/life balance?
I make a solid attempt at getting up at the same time everyday and structuring my day in one hour increments. There are many days when this doesn't happen but it's a process.
What websites do you visit every day?
I love etsy.com, and of course I check personal and work-related websites.
What are your top three favorite people/places/things to do in your city?
My favorite person - Husband, Favorite restaurant - North, Favorite thing to do - Window shop. We have so many amazing restaurants and shops in Austin, it's hard to choose but these I really love!
What is your goal for retirement?
I would like to be able to maintain or mostly maintain my standard of living BUT I would greatly downsize. I could see myself in a tiny house and a nice piece of land.
Do you have any advice for women who'd like to start their own company?
Do your research and homework to really find out about entrepreneurship. It's a lot of work and many times it will succeed or fail based on what you do or don't do. Make sure you have a lot of support at home.
