I was so thrilled to have the pleasure of interviewing the lovely Arastasia Rolain photographer extraordinaire. Arastasia is the magic behind all of our events who takes the most amazing photos and has a such a contagious positive energy that she brightens up any room she walks into. Here is this lovely lady's interview with me on what makes her the leading lady that she is!
Tell us about your business and how you became the successful woman you are today. (how did you get the courage to start your own business, what motivated you, how many hours you put in, how you keep a positive outlook, etc)
I've had a passion for photography since I can remember, even at a really young age, I always told people I wanted to be a photographer when I got older. The older I got, the more serious I got. I decided to turn my passion into a career. I got my first internship when I was 17, and the owner of the business gave me the best advice I could ever receive. She said, "If you are serious about this career choice, you have to be more than a photographer. You have to be a business woman and an entrepreneur." She told me to get training in photography but to get a DEGREE in business. I took her advice, and in the time that I was in college I worked both a photography studio job and a marketing office job. Both jobs were crucial to my future success, however, they were not my passion. My passion was opening MY own business. 3 years into my office job I finally took the plunge and went completely solo with photography. I got my business license and 6 short months later opened my own studio. It was definitely a little bit intimidating and scary to go from a steady pay check and steady routine to "an all-in I HAVE to succeed at this" mindset. Luckily, I obviously made the right choice and business is doing as great as ever. I couldn't be happier knowing I followed my dreams and took risks towards them.
Describe yourself in three words:
Positive, Driven, Bubbly
What do you consider your greatest professional achievement?
Opening my photography studio with out a doubt! That took a lot of courage and a lot of hard work!
What are your professional goals for the next six months?
To be the best wedding photographer my clients can have, to continue to steadily book wedding, portrait, newborn, and boudoir sessions, and to remain loving, optimistic, and driven in my plans.
What profession other than your own would you like to attempt?
I'm pretty content with sticking to photography, but I've always said if I didn't have photography I probably would've been a therapist and counseled people with mental illness.
How do you maintain a work/life balance?
I go on adventures with the love of my life, I give myself a cut-off time at the end of the day to step away from my computer and relax, and I try to give my self at least ONE day during the week that is just focused on family and friends. (I don't always succeed at that one)
What websites do you visit every day?
Facebook, Instagram, and my website because I control the back end of it, and also blog on it.
What are your top three favorite people/places/things to do in your city?
We love to hike and find hidden waterfalls, we absolutely love the wineries, and downtown Cleveland / Flats is an absolute favorite.
What is your goal for retirement?
To travel and be able to do things we love.
Do you have any advice for women who'd like to start their own company?
You MUST understand business, whether it mean you get an associates degree at your local community college, or you do intense studying and research on the internet. Having passion and love for your business is, of course, important, but unless you know how to RUN that business, market it, and financially support/ plan for it, you are really going to struggle.
Any final comments you’d like to share?
I love seeing other successful businesses, and of course other successful women. The entrepreneur in me could talk with another female about business FOR DAYS. I hope we can all continue to encourage, support, and help each other. It's amazing to see my community grow and see people so motivated and driven.

We were extremely honored to be invited to the 4th Annual “All About the Bag” benefiting Hunger Network of Greater Cleveland. With hundreds of attendees including a few local celebrities all coming together to enjoy food, fabulous fashion, and the very generous array of purses, getaways, spa days being raffled off to help spread awareness for this incredible cause. This event was all glam and we had an amazing time. And when all the guests leave and the lights go down the reason we were all there that evening still remains. Helping others doesn't always need a fancy event to motivate someone to give. All it takes is a few dollars or a few hours to make a difference in someone lives.
