As you may know, I am the artist, designer, and owner of Crazy Grl Art & Design, LLC
I have a large number of services that I do in my spare time.
I'm a seamstress: I up-cycle thrift store finds, do alterations, and have designed and created some pieces of my own.
I'm a photographer: I have taken a variety of pictures,
from head-shots to photo booth set-ups.
And I'm a painter: There is rarely a scene I feel I am incapable of accomplishing!
It is a passion of mine that I have enjoyed since I was very little.
I am bringing this up now because recently, I was commissioned to paint a portrait of a very special dog named Tulo.
Tulo became very sick and passed away not too long ago.
The owner is devastated so all of his co-workers decided to to pitch-in and have this special gift made
They didn't know any artists and were worried about the cost, so Jean, my mother-in-law, recommended me.
After speaking with her briefly, we came up with the a concept.
She wanted Tulo to look happy in another place, she wanted it to look like Tulo was in heaven.
She sent me her favorite picture of Tulo for me to work from and I got started . . .
Rest In Peace, sweet Tulo
I started by doing an initial sketch before committing it to a canvas,
this helps me to get a feeling for the shape.
I decided to achieve the feeling that Tulo was in heaven I was going to make him look like he was coming out of a cloud. Light, airy, joyful . . .
I think I created the perfect balance, what do you think?
It was an honor to paint this sweet baby and hope it offers the owner some comfort <3

Preheat the oven to 350 degrees. Generously grease, then flour, a 13 inch by 9 inch pan. Set aside.
In a small bowl, cream softened butter and sugar together. Add eggs and beat well. Sift the flour, baking soda, salt, and cocoa together then add half of the dry ingredients mixture to the creamed mixture and mix together. Add the water and mix, then add the heavy cream and mix. Add in the other half of the dry ingredients and mix.
Pour batter into the greased and floured pan that was set aside, even the batter in the pan, then drop the pan on the counter three times from a height of an inch above the counter. Sprinkle chocolate chips over the top of the batter.
Place the pan in the oven and cook for 35-40 minutes. Use a wooden toothpick to check if it is cooked all the way through by poking the cake in the center with the toothpick. Let the cake cool for at least 30 minutes before putting the cake in the fridge to chill - the pan and cake should be room temperature before putting in the fridge.
Chocolate Buttercream Frosting
Using an electric beater, whip the butter, heavy cream, and vanilla together. Next, sift the powdered sugar and cocoa powder together then slowly and carefully mix in, to the cream mixture - make sure not to mix together too quickly or the powder will fly everywhere!
When finished, scoop the mixture into a piping bag then put it in the fridge to chill. After the cake and frosting have chilled for at least an hour, you can prepare and decorate the cake how you would like.

To Everyone Who Participated In This Month's Girls Night!
This week I hosted an event to talk about our finances.
When was the last time you gave your accounts a good look through?
Most folks admit they that they don't actually know what is going on with their finances.
In fact, studies show about 61% of adults and 83% of teens admit they don't know how to manage their money!
It's no wonder so many out there end up with not enough retirement money saved- or none at all!
I recently decided to take charge and better care of my money, and, boy, it is a struggle!
We work and work but are still living paycheck to paycheck, aren't you tired of the cycle?
I work 5 jobs!
And I am STILL in debt and not able to afford most commodities that other house holds require and worst, if I had children right now then I wouldn't be able to sustain them.
Since I plan to raise kids of my own someday, being almost 30 years old, it is alarming to me.
I want to not only stop worrying about money, but I want to actually flourish!
( We were Talking Financial Freedom at Paninos Downtown on Tuesday, March 19th.
Thank you to Paninos Downtown for hosting us!!! )
The company who took us on this journey is called Financial Freedom INC because they help folks achieve just that- Financial Freedom!
They are an independent financial services company that has traveled all over the country teaching the mystery of finance and doing financial seminars. They are passionate about helping people create a very simple plan to put them in charge of their own financial future, as well as helping them get out of debt and increase their nest egg by thousands of dollars.
They help you protect and increase your financial future.
They specialize in keeping your assets protected while they are working hard for you.
Your money does not have to be at risk to give you good returns and it should always be available to you when you need it!
Our guest speaker for the night was David Townsend, the number one Financial Strategist in the country. He gave us a 45 minute presentation on how to achieve 'Financial Freedom', using two flagship methods-
1. Become your own banker
2. Create a money management plan
Most answer no or "very little" because they say that between debt and current bills, they don't have enough income to feed their family now if they try to put some away for later.
This is a sad but true fact about families today- I am currently in this situation myself!
Let me ask you a second question that you may not have thought about . . .
Do you know how much you will need to save for retirement?
Another sad truth is that these days, due to inflation and unstable financial situations, a lot of folks have had to either to go back to work after retirement or aren't able to retire at all and will work until they die!
Sorry to be blunt - but we need to face facts if we are going to take charge of our finances!
Most people don't know how to calculate how much they might need per month after retirement-
We have to start with the small stuff to figure just how BIG the big stuff is.
Add them all together then X12 (months) - what's your total for one year?
Next, decide what year you would like to retire- most choose 65 years old because that's when your social security is available to you. If you are lucky enough to live to 100 then you have 35 years to live on what you save NOW.
Your total amount for a year X35 years - how much do you need?
The average rate of inflation is about 2% per year so you have to assume that by the time you are ready to retire at 65, you suddenly won't have enough money to retire!!!
So what do you do now to prevent this?
Take your total and calculate the inflation to the mix!
Formula: Your total (Let's call it 'z' ) X 0.02 = 2% of your total!
That 2% of your total times how ever many years from the age you plan to retire to the age you estimate your death (if 65 and 100 years old, then X 35 years) (Let's call this total 'y' )
Then, z + y = (YOUR RETIREMENT FUND)
Feeling pretty confident about your sum?
Feels good to have everything covered?
Sorry to throw another wrench at your plans, but guess what!
Still . . . Not . . . Done . . .
Most folks end up with different health conditions as they age.
These issues come suddenly, with no warning, can be deadly, and are not covered on my health insurance policy?!?!
These types of problems happen after retirement all the time and can leave a family devastated.
You should calculate an extra $100,000 in the budget per person!
Is your total over 1/2 a million dollars yet?
Because you should also add on another $50,000 per person for miscellaneous expenses, like living a few more years than you had budgeted for or getting a new car 20 years from now that will be taken out of your savings along the way . . .
Even the most financially conservative household's total would be very high at this point . . .
Most feel so over whelmed by now that they STOP looking into their finances altogether!!!
Please don't loose heart!
That's why you need to talk to David Townsend for free advice, he will put your mind at ease.
Who IS David Townsend?
During this whole time, David had been building his financial planning business, and with over 40 years of experience, has become a self-made multi-millionaire with a passion for teaching other people how to become financially independent.
David is the top producer in the United States for a dozen or so different financial companies; you'd think a person with this impressive background would live in Manhattan, however, David resides in Westminster, CO.
"Warren Buffet may be the Oracle of Omaha, but David is the Wizard of Westminster."
Said Michael Richards- who has been working with David for some time now.
. . . Less than a month later (after hearing David speak). . . I left there not only with knowledge of how I could improve my finances, but I left there with the light of a new life. A life that didn’t include assessing what was absolutely needed in our grocery cart, because we had to mindful that the electric bill still had to be paid. A life that allowed me a weekend off with the kids, and not working overtime to help with bills. A life where I could finally sleep because the thoughts of losing my house was no longer a nightmare.
David, and all the Financial Freedom, THANK YOU!!! "
Did you know that pubs in Ireland had to close for St Patrick’s Day? Crazy!
Practicing Christians in Ireland attend Church on St Patrick’s Day as its a Holy Day of Obligation. So it wasn’t until the late 1970’s the Irish law permitted pubs to have their doors open on March 17th.
I have Irish heritage and decided to look up what the folks in Ireland do to celebrate
Saint Patrick's Day!
These are, however, actually untrue and are just Irish folklore.
YourIrish.com says, "There are many legends that surround the Patron Saint of Ireland. Stories such as St Patrick and the Devil, St Patrick and the Killer Snake and also St Patrick and the River Shannon Serpent still remain popular today."
- In England, the British Royals traditionally present bowls of shamrock to members of the Irish Guards, a regiment in the British Army
- In Russia, over 70 events celebrating Irish culture take place in Moscow, St Petersburg, Yekaterinburg, Voronezh, and Volgograd were sponsored by the Irish Embassy, the Moscow City Government, and other organizations. In 2017, the Russian Orthodox Church even added the feast day of Saint Patrick to its liturgical calendar, to be celebrated on 30 March.
- One of the longest-running and largest St Patrick's Day parades in North America occurs each year in Montreal. The yearly celebration has been organised by the United Irish Societies of Montreal since 1929. The parade has been held yearly without interruption since 1824 however, St Patrick's Day itself has been celebrated in Montreal since as far back as 1759 by Irish soldiers in Montreal.
- Plus a TON of other cities around the world
But most of all, Saint Patrick's Day grew in popularity in the U.S. and so did the number of people wearing green. "From green hats to shamrock sun glasses everyone today celebrates the Irish culture by wearing something green."
There are a number of traditions to consider that are associated with St Patrick’s Day. Some are associated with religious traditions, others relate to people celebrating being Irish for the day (like me lol), even for those who have no connections with Ireland. But if you asked the average person what traditions for Saint Patrick's Day they are familiar with, they would probably say- Wear green or you will get pinched, depict shamrocks on your clothing for luck, maybe putting green food coloring in your beer... for who knows why lol.
"You would be hard pushed to find a pub in Ireland that served green beer like you would in the U.S. Some places in Ireland, such as Dublin, may have a few pubs that will serve green beer but for the most part it’s not something we generally do." Says YourIrish.com
Did you know that it wasn’t until 1995 when the Irish government decided to start holding a parade in Dublin? And they only did it to help boost tourism. It’s now known in Ireland as St Patrick’s festival which takes place over 5 days with events including art shows, plays, concerts, fun fairs and the main parade - basically what is done in the U.S. - but it wan't always regarded as a social holiday.
Now, around the world, folks use the day as an excuse to dress in green and get drunk to celebrate March 17th, even in Ireland.
Grab a cab, everybody!
A few of our Colorado Springs Housewives group members
and I were invited to be contestants on
The Truth Is game show!
The game show about cunning and deception,
it is a unique social media game show that promotes influencers and creators,
it keeps the laughs coming!
How To Play:
Each contestant submits 3 strange/funny truths about themselves to the host, the host then chooses 1 of those truths to go on your card - He also places 2 truths on your card that were submitted by past contestants. You read off all 3 truths on your card, then the other contestants and the host ask questions about each truth to try and trip you up.
Your job is to explain each truth as if all of the truths are yours, defending "your" actions!
After they are done asking questions about each story, the contestants choose which of the 3 truths is ACTUALLY yours!
For however many pick the wrong truth, you get a point.
Whoever guesses correctly, they get a point.
Whoever has the most points at the end WINS!
Easy peasy, right?
" We have created a game show that is not only entertaining to watch but also brings attention to artists of all genres and the projects they pour themselves into."
says Chad Gloria, the host of The Truth Is "The Truth Is seeks to be something radically different from anything else on the many social media platforms, by pushing the bounds of what is known as creative content.
We strive to bring humor to our audience while being part of something infinitely larger than ourselves. "
It was super fun!
Check out the episode below :]
Congratulations to Ashley Kristine Osgood for winning 2 tickets to board
The Local Motive - Colorado Public Party Bus!
I came to my buddy, Jon, and we looked up old parlor games that no one owned the rights too, we landed on 'two lies and a truth' - because even 'non-performer' types can be funny when making up silly stories. "
They want to build a grass roots audience here, in Colorado Springs, by ingratiating themselves and The Truth Is into the community.
" What if you could be part of something that not only fueled your creativity but also helped to build up other creative people around you? "
( Left to Right: Charlotte Wittie, Elise Odom (myself), Chad Gloria, Ashley Osgood,
and Kara Birky Stutzman )
They are always looking for contestants, if you are interested!

" After Rocky Year-End, Risks Follow Investors into New Year
In the final quarter of 2018, interest rate and growth fears, along with geopolitical events, sparked volatility in the financial markets and reversed many of the outsize stock gains notched earlier in the year. "
- Says Jacqui Staples, or Mutual of Omaha
She is always committed to providing her clients with the guidance and consistent service needed in developing, implementing, and maintaining a comprehensive business and individual strategy.
I am not well versed on the subject, so I seek the advise of professionals, such as Jacqueline. I had signed up for Acorns, the investment app that lets people automatically invest spare change from debit and credit card purchases, and noticed my stocks had gone down $7 as of 02/03/19! I was shocked to see that my investments weren't doing so well, so I posted on Facebook asking if any of my friends used the app and how their investments were doing. Though no one has come forward saying that they are currently using the app, a good friend, Emily Hall, who had used the app previously gave me her 2 cents as to why my investment wasn't doing too well . . .
" I believe the DOW and Nasdaq and all them have tanked lately so you may have been doing okay until this recent shut down and recession. "
At this point, I've already lost whatever amount in service fees over the course of this last year and regardless of the amount being invested, I feel like I would be better off to cancel the account. I would either have to wait until my investments go back up $7 and be charged whatever amount in services fees, by Acorns, until the monetary value of my stocks go back up that $7 OR cancel my account and only lose the $7.
What is YOUR opinion?
Drop it in the comments!
Emily said . . .
" I had a few friends that made ALOT of money doing the referrals and investing all their round ups. They had it set to agressive (I think is the right term) but it was also while stock things were going better. We used Acorns for a while- We were trying to get the $1,000 bonus for referring 10 friends. We only got 7 people so we didn't get it. The round up was okay but there is a delay and it got hard to budget for so I ended up just doing the weekly deposit.
investments constantly. Some banks will do the round up thing for you and automatically move money every Friday into saving or whatever. I like more stable things myself so I opted for that. "
Jacqui Staples says . . .
" The S&P 500 posted a loss of about 6.2% for 2018. After falling into bear market territory, defined as a drop of more than 20% from recent highs, the tech-heavy NASDAQ was down 3.9% for the year overall.
Investors may feel shell-shocked after the worst December for stocks since 1931, but it's important to maintain some perspective. The recent correction was preceded by the longest bull market in history, so it could be viewed as an overdue repricing of stocks, as well as a reality check brought on by waning growth expectations.
Here are some of the specific headline risks that have sparked market volatility, along with a review of economic projections for 2019. "
Flatter yield curve
" The yield curve has almost always forecasted the direction of trend growth, meaning when the curve flattens, growth with a lag tends to slow and vice versa when the curve steepens," LaVorgna told CNBC's "Trading Nation" on Tuesday.
The yield curve inverts when shorter-term Treasurys yield more than longer-term Treasury yields. The relationship between the 2-year and 10-year yields is often used as a barometer of investor expectations for economic growth.
Still, while the flattening yield curve is cause for concern, it's not yet time to panic, " says LaVorgna.
Jacqui Staples continues . . .
" Treasury yields rose through most of 2018 (causing prices to drop) in response to solid growth and central bank tightening. However, the climb in the 10-year Treasury yield stalled after reaching a seven-year high in early November, when trade tensions, doubts about future economic growth, and stock market volatility ramped up.
Global growth concernsGlobal economic growth is showing signs of weakness, which could eventually take a toll on U.S. growth. Some export-driven economies have been hit especially hard, partly due to trade disputes. China, the world's second largest economy after the United States, is growing at its slowest rate in nearly a decade. Economic growth in Japan and Germany (the third and fourth largest economies) also contracted in the third quarter.
In addition, uncertainty surrounding the United Kingdom's exit from the European Union — or Brexit — has begun to restrain growth in the region. Investors seem to be especially nervous about the possibility of a disorderly Brexit. If a deal can't be finalized by the March 2019 deadline, supply chain disruptions and tariffs imposed on traded goods could slow growth further.
Monetary policy is the process by which the monetary authority of a country, typically the central bank or currency board, controls either the cost of very short-term borrowing or the monetary base, often targeting an inflation rate or interest rate to ensure price stability and general trust in the currency.
" The Federal Reserve has been gradually lifting the federal funds rate (now in a range from 2.25% to 2.5%) and slowly reducing its balance sheet. These policies are intended to reduce liquidity in the economy and help control inflation, but higher interest rates are also a headwind for stocks, because they help less-risky assets such as bonds attract more capital.
" Despite financial market turbulence, economic forecasts suggest that the United States entered 2019 in a fairly strong position. In December, the Federal Reserve's median forecast for 2019 gross domestic product growth was 2.3% (down from 2.5% in the previous forecast). The unemployment rate, which was 3.7% in November 2018, is expected to keep falling to 3.5%.
However, if trade talks between the United States and China fail to ease tensions, tariffs could cut more deeply into the profits of U.S. companies and/or push up costs for consumers. Nearly half (47.3%) of economists polled by The Wall Street Journal believe the trade war with China is the most serious risk to the U.S. economy in 2019. Other economists cited a slowdown in business investment (12.7%), weakening global growth (9.1%), and interest rate hikes (7.3%) as the biggest potential threat. "
Keep your cool!
Unresolved geopolitical issues (including a prolonged government shutdown) or disappointing economic reports could continue to upset the stock market in the coming months. Even so, if you flee the market during a downturn, you won't be in a position to take advantage of growth on an upswing. And if you are investing for a long-term goal such as retirement, a down market may be an opportunity to buy more shares at lower prices. Though it can be difficult to take the headlines in stride and control your emotions, sticking to a sound investment strategy is often the best course of action.
The return and principal value of stocks and bonds fluctuate with changes in market conditions. Shares, when sold, and bonds redeemed prior to maturity may be worth more or less than their original cost. U.S. treasury securities are guaranteed by the federal government as to the timely payment of principal and interest.
The S&P 500 is an unmanaged group of securities that is considered representative of the U.S. stock market in general. The performance of an unmanaged index is not indicative of the performance of any specific investment. Individuals cannot invest directly in an index. Past performance is not a guarantee of future results. Actual results will vary. "
So, to conclude . . .
" The recent correction was preceded by the longest bull market in history, so it could be viewed as an overdue repricing of stocks, as well as a reality check brought on by waning growth expectations. "
