Phantasmagoria is a Victorian Horror Troupe in Orlando and Dion came out to Tuffy's to perform and show us a little bit of what Phantasmagoria is all about. All I have to say is WOW. I was blown away! I'll definitely make sure to catch one of their shows after seeing her! They are performing their version of A Christmas Carol called "A Ghost Story of Christmas" in December! Our Daytona Beach Housewives event in October had an incredible giveaway! Everyone who was present got an entry. Three of our featured businesses came together to give one lucky guest a makeover! Cynthia Burgos was our winner!
Trish Licari, the owner of Styleworks Salon in Deland hosted the makeover. Kayla did Cynthia's beautiful red color and curls! Carmen Prieto with Luminess Cosmetics did her makeup, including airbrush foundation and blush! And Ashlee Smith photographed the whole makeover and did headshots for Cynthia!
Thank you to everyone who was involved in this day! Cynthia looked beautiful.
Isn't that color GORGEOUS?!?
Luminess makes flawless airbrush foundation easy!
Thank you Trish and Styleworks for hosting!
I am so glad I got to meet you, Cynthia!
I had the honor of serving in the U.S. Army. My favorite veterans are the older generation. They are our grandparents and great grandparents generation. I worked in the medical field, so I took care of them when they came into the hospital for their medical appointments. These were soldiers who had served in WW2, Korea, Vietnam, etc. And they always thanked ME for my service. It was very humbling.
Veteran's Day is November 11. For some people it sneaks up on them when they see a Facebook post or hear it announced on the morning radio. Some people look forward to it and attend events honoring veterans. If you aren't sure how to honor veterans on this day (or any day), here are a few ideas for you.
1. Know the difference between Veteran's Day and Memorial Day
Memorial Day is the last Monday in May. This is the day that we honor those who have lost their lives in service to our country. Veteran's Day is November 11. This is the day that we honor veterans who are still with us.
2. Say "Thank you"
Ask them about their service. Listen to their stories. Say thank you. Buy their coffee. Any day of the year. These simple gestures can make a veteran's day.
3. Go to an parade or ceremony
There are always events on Veteran's Day and the weekend before. Show up, clap for them, make them feel appreciated. They literally sacrificed years of their lives. Sacrificing an hour of your Saturday will mean so much to them.
4. Volunteer or donate
There are so many organizations focused on supporting veterans. There are countless opportunities to volunteer your time or donate to their charities. Disabled American Veterans (DAV), the Gary Sinise Foundation, Wounded Warrier Project, Homes for our Troops and Soldier's Best Friend are just a few. Look for charities or a VA in your area where you can volunteer. Facebook makes it easy to set up a donation fundraiser on your birthday. Think about choosing a veteran's charity next year!
5. Check on your Veteran
Statistically, 22 veterans a day commit suicide. They are not always getting the services they need after returning from war, Check on your veteran friends and family members regularly. Anxiety, depression and PTSD can make simple everyday tasks difficult. Offer to help, give them a ride or just listen. If you are a veteran and you are thinking about taking your own life, call Lifeline for Vets 1-888-777-4443.
