Self-care is a necessity in life for each of us. YES, that means YOU. We are able to be more present in the relationships we have in our life when we take the time (that we usually don’t feel we have) to care for ourselves. It is not just an excuse to get your nails done, your hair did, or to buy a new outfit (although if definitely makes it more enjoyable). It relives stress! Self-care can be anything YOU enjoy doing, a pleasurable activity for you. There WILL be times that an activity you LOVE just is not working in that moment. THAT IS OK. Do you hear me? THAT IS OK. Things and situations change/can impact what we need at that moment but what is NOT OK is when we let it change and don’t replace it with a new activity. For example: baking is a self-care activity for me- HOWEVER, there are times the mess and cleanup create anxiety and stress in me and I know that at that moment I need to engage in a different self-care activity.
What do you do for self-care? Monthly massages? Working out? Baking? Reading a book? Hiking? Meditation? Getting your nails or hair done? Hiring a house cleaner? The list is endless... Is there a form of self-care you are good at and another you need to give more time/energy towards? In the attached files, you will find a list of self-care activities to review and see if there are any new ones you can add to your list. You will also find a self-care assessment for you to utilize and evaluate your own self-care. Explore new things, discover new hobbies, create a long list of “self-care” activities for yourself to fall back on when one might not be working as well.
Just remember to take care of YOU. You cannot be fully present and there for others if you are neglecting YOUrself.
