Believe it or not, I am more introverted than I let others think. At one point and time in my life I got up each day, went to work, came home, might work on my business and went to bed. Rinse and repeat. There were no plans outside of that plan... How boring!!!
If you had told 30-year-old me that I would be packing up for weekends, taking a week-long trip, traveling with “girlfriends” for “retreats” I would have laughed to tears and told you to stop. I just wish I had taken the leap into enjoying these experiences earlier in life. Now, I look for the excuse to go on retreats; I even plan them at least once a year.
Over Columbus Day weekend four ladies and I took our annual retreat. This year, Williamsburg would be our destination. Different than last year, we would have two younger ladies in our company, one that hasn’t traveled much in her own lifetime. Planned for this trip, we would discuss social media, enjoy a few meals together, a ghost tour, take some much-needed downtime and the most important reason for being there – CONNECT!
Over the course of three days, the five of us would experience new foods, try new drinks, try new things, share stories and make memories. While I would love to get into the details of what we laughed, cried, and shared; “what happens at retreat stays at the retreat!”
You don’t need to have a specific reason to “retreat” but DO take one. Take a day or two away from home, breathe, laugh, enjoy the company of other ladies and find sisterhood. I can, with confidence say, the house will be there when you get back, the family/animals will miss you and the work will still be there. You, however, may be a bit different. You may feel like you are lifted, relaxed, have more energy, be a bit more determined, focused.
Be warned though - the strangest thing happens when something starts to stress you; your mind may find it’s way back to a moment in time during that retreat where you laughed the hardest and you may find yourself with a stupid grin on your face.
