First, I have to say how much fun I had last weekend at the Southern Women's Show! I met some incredible vendors, some awesome customers and some great friends! Then there were the local celebrities. Some on stage, and some just getting their glasses cleaned for free - like Wilson. Have I mentioned that I love Molly Grantham?
I saw some of the coolest products at the SWS! Our booth was next to a boutique full of gorgeous clothing in all sizes. I only got three things and though I got them all in one day, I don't feel guilty because I was there three days! Across from us was some beautiful jewelry and on the other side of us was ProFashion Hairstyling Tools. I watched them use these hairstyling tools all weekend before I caved in and went over and had them do my hair. I can't wait to try it at home tomorrow before Girls Night Out, but I watched it so many times, and waited until the literal last minute that I got a GREAT deal! That brings me to tip #1 - save large purchases for the last day. Vendors (including myself) want to move as much inventory as possible, for a few reasons. First, they've paid good money to be there. Second, they lugged in all of that inventory and they want to haul out as little as possible when they leave. Third, they've got sales targets to reach. So, don't splurge on the first day if it's a high-dollar item. Wait until the final day. However, understand that they will sell out of some items - so if it is something you absolutely have to have and cannot live without, this may not be the show tip for you.
On Saturday, I made my way over to the Charleston Shoe Company. No, I had never heard of them, don't be upset with me. I have terrible feet and ankles - as a result of numerous breaks and sprains. Standing on my feet for three full days was pure torture. So, I had to check out these shoes and see what they were all about. The verdict - they're comfy! The question - whether they are worth the price. At this point, I'll pay $1,000 for some cute, comfy, supportive shoes. I just don't think there is a 100% perfect pair out there. I've tried them all. These, however, are definitely comfy and cute, just a bit pricey - these set me back $140.
Tip #2 is check the event schedule. Just because you are going for shopping doesn't mean that you shouldn't check the events out. It was pretty cool to see Savannah Chrisley only 25 feet away. The bummer of being an exhibitor is that you can't break away for meet and greets. I heard from several girls that met her that she was super sweet. No surprise to me. I love Chrisley Knows Best and she seems like a genuine, sweet girl.
Now, let's talk about the highlight of the show and the real meaning behind the performance. The Charlotte Firefighters and the Firefighter's Burned Children Fund. Call it a fashion show, call it whatever you'd like. The bottom line is that this incredibly good-looking firefighters auction off their shirts to ladies in the audience and all of the proceeds go to the Firefighter's Burned Children Fund. It's a great cause, it's a great time and everyone should be sure to be around for at least one 'performance'.
I must tell you that as you visit these shows, give some serious credit to the vendors - especially when you see that they are working a booth by themselves. They've likely set up the entire thing by themselves and will have to break it down and pack it up alone too! Events like this take so much work behind the scenes - the coordinating staff, the exhibitors, the manual labor of setting up each space. A lot of work goes into making these shows fun for vendors and attendees!
I've seen the FabFitFun boxes in my newsfeed for months and finally, the curiosity got to me and I had to see what this subscription box was all about. Well, it only took one box and I'm hooked! Subscription boxes are all the rage right now and I've tried a few: just fab shoes, fabletics, FabFitFun - FAB seems to be a pattern for me.
I just customized my fall box and I cannot wait to get it! The best part about this box is that you can select the categories of items that you'd like to receive each season. This season, I've been dying for the Vince Camuto bag that I saw in a FabFitFun ad. It's value is $128! Every box comes with $300 or more worth of full-size products for you to fall in love with and you can get your first box for only $39.99 by using code HARVEST to place your order HERE! That's an incredible deal I just could not pass up!
Take a look at the awesome stuff that came in my summer box!

If you are feeling ripped off because North Carolina no longer has a tax free weekend, then I've got good news for you. Another perk about Gaston County is our close proximity to South Carolina. It is literally just fifteen minutes away. That's the delight of being a southernmost county. You can find the closest South Carolina Walmart only 13 miles from Gastonia or Mount Holly. That's no further than I drive from Mount Holly to the Target in Gastonia, just to put the savings into perspective. So, don't worry, you can still shop tax free!
Closest SC Walmart: Lake Wylie - 175 Highway 274, SC 29710
What can you get? Well, grab the kids school supply lists because those items should all be tax free: pencils, paper, binders, notebooks, backpacks, lunch bags, etc. Then you've got the bonus of tax free clothing - shoes included. Packing up and sending a child to college? Going back yourself? Computers and printers are also tax-free through Sunday.
Keep in mind that many household items, cosmetics, and pretty much everything else that you will not find on a back-to-school list or need for a dorm room are NOT tax-free. But we've got good news. Charlotte Premium Outlets (located right off of 485 just 15 minutes from the east part of the county) is having a "Better Than Tax-Free" sale this weekend to cheer you up. Many of your favorite retailers will have sales up to 65% off - call the retailer to find out what deals they have.
If you're trying to knock out all your back-to-school needs, you can hit the outlet mall and drive just three miles further and you'll be in SC and can grab your school supplies and some treats for mom - all for a great deal! Don't miss a good deal over a fifteen minute drive!
Tax-free weekend started at 12:01 am on 8/3 and runs until midnight on 8/5.
