Last week, 5th Year, a college brand, tweeted that Sup Dogs had won the longly anticipated #BarStoolBestBar competition! Sup Dogs outvoted Penn State's Champs Downtown by 400 votes, totaling 20,953! (WOW!) Out of 64 other bars across the country, Sup Dogs won, officially putting Greenville on the map for people from all over. Owner, Bret Oliverio, even mentioned how business has increased by 40% since being announced the winners! So what happens now? In celebration of winning the title of America's Best Bar, Sup Dogs is hosting a party with the help of Barstool ECU at The State Theatre tonight! Not only is this super exciting for the bar, but for Greenville all together!
'“Us winning Best College Bar in America has a lot to do with ECU students and the passion and pride that they take in our business, and that’s something we’re super grateful for,” Oliverio said. “So it’s not only a celebration of Sup Dogs, it’s also a celebration of students, alumni and everyone in Pirate Nation.”' So as an ECU Alum myself, I feel the need to add - "We are the pirates of E.C.U Hey!"
Until next time! - Brittany
Some of you may know (I did not until this year) that April is National Stress Awareness Month, and has been since 1992! The purpose is still spread public awareness of both the causes and cures for our modern stress epidemic. Yes, epidemic. After a little research while stress had hit an all time peak for me, I found some pretty interesting findings from Stress Management Society. “According to the Mental Health Foundation, 74% of UK adults have felt so stressed at some point over the last year they felt overwhelmed or unable to cope.” Yes, I know we aren’t in the UK, but imagine how similar these studies are to US adults. Stress is probably one of the greatest public health challenges of our time and is not only a significant factor linked to mental health issues such as depression and anxiety (duh) but is also linked to physical health issues like heart disease and insomnia.
So I turned to one of my favorite blogs/podcasts (The Confused Millennial by Rachel Ritlop) for some help. Lo and behold, I found exactly what I was looking for with a blog titled “10 Quick & Easy Ways To Cut Stress From Your Life ASAP” yes please! But instead of listing all 10 (I will leave the link to the full blog here,) here are the 5 things I decided to turn to to get out of my own little depressed funk I found myself in that was most definitely brought on by stress.
1. Run Your Fingers Through Your Hair
“The scalp has so many nerve endings and I’m going to assume most of us forget about on a daily basis. While it can be comfortable to throw your hair up in a messy bun or pony tail and forgetting about your scalp all day, try mixing things up this month! Take a minute or two each hour to get in there and really massage. If you can, close your eyes, breath deeply, and notice how you feel afterwards. It’s a great way to bring fresh energy into the cranium and is often an area we neglect!”
2. Ask For Help
“Sometimes we can’t do all the things by ourselves – as much as we’d like to. The truth is, people need people. We need community and support in order to reach our fullest potentials and reduce stress...Asking for help is a healthy habit and a sign of strength.”
Oxytocin! You never realize how important human touch is until you need it, like actually need it. “Oxytocin is a feel-good chemical in the brain that’s been known to strengthen positive traits like trust and generosity and reduce things like anxiety and depression.”
4. Incorporate Nature as Much as Possible
I know for me, being outside even just for a little bit tends to reset my mind. Get out there and take a walk, get on a boat, go for a bike ride. “If you can’t get outside every day consider ditching the fluorescent lights in your office and opt for natural light and crack a window! Another way of bringing nature is to spring for some house plants to re-oxygenate your space.”
5. Dance It Out
Dancing is the go to in my house when me or my one of my friends are feeling down or are overwhelmed by something out of our control. Pump some loud music and just get moving, you have no choice but to feel happy once you get into it. Kick the sitting habit!
I hope these tips help you like they did me. And maybe I encouraged you to take a look at The Confused Millennial blog!
Until next time -Brittany

Happy Monday! I wanted to start the week off with sharing the lineup of Featured Businesses we have for February's Girls Night Out event coming up next week! Housewives in the City Greenville, NC was launched just a few months ago and I'm so very impressed with how ready the ladies of Greenville were ready for us! Each event is growing, and more and more women are coming to events excited to learn what Housewives in the City is all about. Everyone is all about networking and I LOVE it! Which makes me that much more excited about Girls Night Out at The Blackened Kraken Bar & Grill next Thursday! We're all expecting a successful event, The Blackened Kraken is in the heart of the uptown district making it a great location for all of us to meet up. Our spotlight nonprofit this month is the Cancer Services of Eastern North Carolina - they're partnering up with the Carolina Breast Imaging Specialists for the 1st Quarter Breast Cancer Screening Day the same Thursday of Girls Night Out (Feb. 28 from 3pm-7pm at the Carolina Breast Imaging Specialists.) Check below for more information as well as our Featured Businesses, links are attached if you'd like to get ahold of any of them before Girls Night Out See you next week!
January's Girls Night Out was only our SECOND event for Housewives in the City Greenville, NC, but we had some of the best ladies come out. Thank you to all the wonderful women that came out ready to get their networking on! And thank you to our great venue, Tiebreakers Sports Bar and Grill! Tiebreakers set us up with great accommodations; our own servers, 10% off food items, AND a special for crafts beers (including local brews.) Of course the evening wouldn't have been a success without our vendors and their giveaways for the raffles. I loved everyone's enthusiasm, all of our ladies were ready to meet and mingle, shop and enjoy a great evening together!
Although we did not have a nonprofit featured before Girls Night Out, I did meet one lovely lady who shared an event with me that every woman in Eastern NC should know about! The Cancer Services of Eastern North Carolina is partnering with the Carolina Breast Imaging Specialists for their 1st Quarter Breast Screening Day. The event will take place Thursday, Feb. 28 between 3-7pm at Carolina Breast Imaging Specialists. You MUST pre-register to attend via phone, email, or online registration!

I feel like in 2019, everyone (at least all women) know or have an idea what Scentsy is, but something I have never done was read up on the company. Scentsy's mission is "To bring value to the world by providing an industry-leading, family-friendly business opportunity selling creative, artistic, high-quality products that warm the heart, enliven the senses and inspire the soul." Scentsy definitely does all those things and I'm so glad Christy has been our Scentsy lady for both events here in Greenville! Not only is she a complete pro in the business, but she knows her stuff and keeps her family at the center of her world. Christy is my Scentsy lady for life! As her shirt at events says, keep calm, she's a Scentsy lady.

Rodan & Fields is one of the #1 skincare companies in the U.S., and let's face it, you don't become one of the best of best with products that don't work. January was Mandy's first event with us but we hope to have her back at more upcoming events, and Winter was the absolute perfect time for her to be joining us! She is a product of the brand and she loves to share her own story with Rodan & Fields. It's easy to see why she loves to do what she does. With the weather going back and forth between freezing temps and muggy, rainy days, I love to hear Mandy's recommendations for a new Rodan & Fields skincare routine. I'm also looking forward to the opportunity for her to do mini facials at our upcoming events!

Hello Ladies. Let me know if you tried out last weeks recipe. My husband and I have been trying to stick with this healthy eating. So far he has lost 10 pounds since the first of the year.
This week's recipe will be Meatballs and Gravy.
This week’s recipe is going to be Meatballs with Gravy for all the gravy lovers. Makes 2 servings.
What you will need:
5 Yukon Gold potatoes 1 yellow onion
3 garlic cloves 1 head of Broccoli
8 oz of ground beef 85/15 ½ cup panko bread crumbs
1 oz of sour cream 2 tsp vegetable oil
3 TBSP butter 1 TBSP flour
¾ cup of water 2 TBSP of beef stock
Salt and pepper
Preheat oven to 450 degrees. Wash and dry all produce. Dice the potatoes and finely chop into ½ inch cubes. Peel and finely chop the onion. Peel and finely chop 1 of the garlic cloves, wrap the other 2 cloves in foil. Cut the broccoli florets off the stalk and then cut them into bite-sized pieces.
In a medium bowl, gently combine beef, half the panko, chopped garlic, 3 TBSP onion, ½ tsp salt and pepper. Mix and form into 1-inch balls. Place the meatballs and the garlic in the foil on one side of baking sheet. Toss broccoli with a drizzle of oil and place on the other side of the baking sheet. Add a pinch of salt and pepper to the broccoli. Bake until the meatballs all cooked through, broccoli is browned and tender, garlic is soft, about 15-20 minutes.
Place the potatoes in a medium pot with a pinch of salt and enough water to cover by 2 inches. Bring to a boil and cook until tender, about 10 minutes. Drain and then return the potatoes to the pot. Cover until you are ready to mash them.
Heat 1 TBSP of butter in a large pan over medium heat until melted. Add the remaining onion and a pinch of salt and pepper. Cook, stirring until browned and softened, about 8 -10 minutes. Add flour then continue to stir and cook until lightly browned, about 1 minute. Gradually stir in ¾ cups of water until fully blended. Stir in Beef stock and simmer until it thickens, about 1 minute. Season with salt and pepper to taste. Reduce heat to low.
Place roasted garlic from the foil onto a cutting board; mash with a fork. Add the garlic to the potatoes along with the sour cream and 2 TBSP of butter. Mash adding splashes of water if needed until you reach desired consistency. Season to taste with salt and pepper.
Add meatballs to the gravy pan and stir until coated with gravy.
Then plate the mashed potatoes and broccoli and put the meat balls on top with gravy.
Let us know if you try the recipe and how you like it.
