Playtime is always fun when kids pretend in real life situations. When I was a kid, my favorite moments were the times we played house, school, grocery shop and many more real-life moments. The memory that I was the fondest of was playing grocery store with my cousins. While my parents visited with my aunt to speak on the family gossip, my cousins and rest of the neighborhood kids would play the Grocery Store. My younger cousin always had cool fake food, I had the register and we would take turns being the shopper and grocery store worker. We even had to get creative and use other types of outdoor items like rocks, sticks, and flowers to get the full store experience.
Kids today have much more of a benefit with interactive locations to expand their minds, like your local Children’s Museum. In 2018, Virginia Beach received word that Wegmans Grocery Store Chain was looking to become one of the newest grocery store chains to take over the Hampton Roads Community. Many of the local community got very excited when the word spread of this nationally known grocery store chain coming to our area. What most didn’t know is the history that this store yields when it supports its local community. So with the opening of the Wegmans store in April 2019, they partnered with the Children’s Museum of Virginia to make the market area a great spot to mold children’s mind about the grocery store and “farm to table” life. The best part is the children will get to experience what shopping is like at the store at the museum. I like this part because now when they shop with their parents they are true ambassadors to the stores, allowing them to be involved in the shopping experience.
