Moving here a few years back I would have never thought of all the fun and exciting things there are to do in and around Hampton Roads. Living on the Peninsula has taught me there is more than enough to see, eat and shop while not having to travel over to the Southside to do it. But, hey that is the benefit of living in this area, you can enjoy just about everything on either side of the water. So if you are local, this guide is just icing on the cake, or if you just came here to visit or just moved here, these are the following places I would start to visit.
Best Attractions- You have come to the right place to have fun in this historic tourist area. We have two major amusement parks Busch Gardens and Water Country in Williamsburg. Season permitting of course, can you have the ability to enjoy thrill rides, musical entertainment and all year seasonal fun. Depending on the time of year you can take advantage of many of Busch Gardens Favorites such as The Food and Wine Festival, Oktoberfest, Hollow Scream and the famous Christmas Town. Or if the thrill rides are not your thing and you want to cool off from that hot Virginia sun Water Country USA is the place to have an entirely fun experience and cool down at the same time. If you are not looking to be in the great outdoors, there are other area attractions that take place inside like Great Wolf Lodge. It's one of the best places around to get the water park feeling indoors.
Love to Learn History? If you are a history buff coming to this area will not disappoint. From learning about Colonial History all the way down to putting a man in space will this city rank high among other sectors. If you are into learning about the American Revolution, you will want to check out the areas of Colonial Williamsburg and Yorktown. You will learn about the many famous battles that took place here right in your backyard. They offer tours of many of the history sites such as the battlefields by Yorktown Beach, where they often conduct reenactments certain times of the year. You may even get lucky to see a filming of a famous show or two. Hampton offers just as much history if you are looking to learn more about ship buildings and space. You do not need to travel far to see many different types of museums on the Peninsula.
Shop til you drop- Shopping is lots of fun in Hampton Roads. One of our top shopping attractions is, of course, the Williamsburg Premium Outlets. Newport News has Patrick Henry Mall and Marketplace at Tech Center, Hampton has shopping, dining, and attractions at Peninsula Town Center. You may even get a great deal coming at the right time at any one of these locations. Located in the heart of all the major attractions of Hampton Roads these shopping areas are is in a class by themselves for you shopping enthusiasts.
Top notice dining and drinking experiences- If you are planning a night on the town or family dinner there is so much to chose from as far as a great dining experience. Many of our ladies nights are in many of these venues such as Fin Seafood, 2nd Street American Bistro, Bar Louie, The Cozy Patio. Looking to add great drinks to your dining experience you may get to go to Williamsburg Winery or try a beer or two at The Virginia Beer Company. You might get a chance to catch one of Hampton Roads famous Food Trucks while you are there.
Take on Nature! When all else fails, stop and smell the fresh air. Hampton Roads is surrounded by Historical Parks, Beaches, and Trails. If you like hiking, fishing, boating and sunning this is the place for you. I love the beaches; you will want to go to Yorktown Beach and Buckroe in Hampton. Love to take pictures? Many of these spots located right in Hampton Roads will have you in awe ready to hang your photo right in your living room.
I’d love to hear from you if I missed anything? What places on the Peninsula would you recommend?

For our April ladies night out we are featuring The American Cancer Society: Making Strides Against Breast Cancer. The American Cancer Society Making Strides Against Breast Cancer walks raise awareness and funds to save lives from breast cancer. Making Strides of Peninsula is a noncompetitive 3-mile walk that brings people together to make a difference for everyone who has been touched by breast cancer. The walk will take place on October 15th at 2pm at CNU.
The events raise money to fund innovative research, provide free information and support, and to help people reduce their breast cancer risk or find it early when it's most treatable. Making Strides celebrates survivors and remembers loved one who was lost to Breast Cancer.
To make the difference you need to get involved, help raise money and join the walk later this year. For more information, visit www.makingstrideswalk.org/peninsulava.
Come and speak with the ladies of Making Strides Against Breast Cancer at our 2nd Street American Bistro in Newport News on April 25, 2017. Stay connected on Facebook and learn more how you can help Making Strides Against Breast Cancer on the peninsula.

I am all about supporting local business as a blogger; I found the most exciting way to get the freshest items delivered right to your door by using delivery service from The Neighborhood Harvest. Locally grown in Suffolk, will you get the freshest ingredients to make the perfect salad? Well known on the Southside of Hampton Roads with farm to table fresh greens, eggs, tomatoes and now cucumbers can the homes on the Peninsula now enjoy delivery to their homes?
Do you want to have the perfect salad? Well, this might be the way to get those unique ingredients delivered to your home on a weekly basis. Now I know what you are thinking, this will cost. Actually, no it doesn’t cost as much as you would think. Affordable plans start as low as $11 per harvest box. You can compare prices from your local supermarket grocer, but you can’t beat the freshness compared to store bought greens plus they are organic, pesticide and GMO-Free.
Eating healthy and cooking my food makes this type of Fresh Delivery Service just as exciting and overall very tasty.
Check out what I made with my Harvest Box
Want to learn more about The Neighborhood Harvest? WE will be featuring them at our upcoming ladies night out on April 25. Come by and visit with Allison McDuffie to learn about the delivery service coming soon to the Peninsula.
