When you’re truly dedicated to your exercise routine, you won’t let anything stand in your way. It doesn’t matter if you’re too tired, busy, or sore from your last workout, you will find a way to make it to the gym. However, when you’re away from your usual surroundings, it can be difficult to stick to your usual regimen. As we all know, skipping a workout is a slippery slope, and once you’re off the wagon it can be close to impossible to get back on. Here are some tips for maintaining you exercise routine while you’re traveling.
Set Some Real Expectations
Be honest with yourself; if your vacation goal is to relax, you may not want to do a ton of exercising. If you’re just going to spend the same amount of time working out as you would at home, then is it even really a vacation? It’s all about finding the right balance, and not putting too much pressure on yourself to hit the same level of work out.
As little as 30 minutes of exercise a day is enough to make a difference, so you won’t have to give up too much of your relaxation time in order to stay fit. Getting your heart rate up a little each day will be enough to make sure you’re staying on track.
Get It Out of the Way Early
Even though it may not take much time, you won’t want to feel like that 30 minutes is hanging over your head all day. Plus, the longer you wait, the less likely you are to go through with it. Your best bet is to take some time early in the morning to burn through your work out and get it out of the way. Not only is morning the best time of day to work out, but it will also help you start your day feeling productive and energize you in preparation for the day’s activities!
Choose Accommodations That Accommodate
If you want to make sure you remember to exercise, it helps to book with companies that actively encourage your fitness and health. It’s common for all-inclusive cruises and resorts to feature extensive fitness facilities, including everything from outdoor running tracks and bike trails, to free weights, and spin classes. These luxury vacations can be expensive, but with great amenities, it can be well worth the cost.
However, that doesn’t mean you’re out of luck if you’re looking to keep the budget down. More and more hotels are upping their fitness game; offering work out classes, free daily yoga, and even on-site personal trainers.
Balance Relaxation with Activity
One of the best ways to guarantee that you get some exercise during your travels is to build-in activities that will keep you on your feet and moving! When sight-seeing, try walking as much as possible instead of driving. Walking is not only a great way to get to know a new area, but you can also burn over 100 calories per mile! Activities like swimming, hiking, and even some late night dancing are all great ways to get some additional exercise while still feeling like you’re getting the most out of your time away.
Going on vacation doesn’t mean you have to completely give up your fitness routine. Keeping these tips in mind next time you’re traveling can help ensure you don’t lose sight of your goals.
